moving quickly through this one Soeren 🙂
btw what happened to the cockpit photo ? 😄
28 July 2015, 19:07
Łukasz Gliński
So far so neat, waiting for the finish
28 July 2015, 19:21
Soeren R.
Thx Lukasz! The most tricky part (the mottleing) is still up to come next.....
28 July 2015, 19:24
Christian Meyerhoff
Nice start! Waiting for more! Don't worry about the camo, this is "What if" so feel free 🙂
28 July 2015, 19:27
Soeren R.
Thx Christian, but need to try the mottle methode a little bit before with the Airwaves masks I got a few weeks ago.
29 July 2015, 05:24
Łukasz Gliński
Can you give some more info regarding the masks? (a link maybe?)
29 July 2015, 06:33
Jan vdM
I have on of this finished as well, but it was my first on to be painted with an airgun. So no comparison to yours. The paint looks really good, can´t wait to see it finished and damn you´re fast with you builds.
29 July 2015, 07:01
Łukasz Gliński
Thx Soeren, I didn't know thing like that exist 🙂
I have to buy me one
29 July 2015, 07:15
Soeren R.
Thx Jan.
And yeah I didnt know that either until I found it 3-4 weeks ago.
The 1099 will be the first kit to try it on (after some test sessions on old sprues and paper😉 )
29 July 2015, 07:17
Roberto Rocat
Interesting subject, good work so far 👍
4 August 2015, 20:11
Erik Houghton
Very interested to see how that Airwaves mask works, I've seen it from time to time and wondered if I should buy one.
4 August 2015, 20:21
Soeren R.
Im also more than curious Erik.
I will report as soon as i tried it 🙂
4 August 2015, 20:41
Erik Leijdens
Looks like another nice model Soeren. A fat Me262
4 August 2015, 21:31
Soeren R.
I really hope it will be still nice in the end😉
And kind of yes, but I must admit that I really like the paper planes from Germany in WWII.
5 August 2015, 05:30
Thomas U.
Hi Soeren,
sieht ja mal wieder absolut überzeugend aus. Tolle Arbeit.
8 August 2015, 12:49
Soeren R.
Dank dir Thomas 🙂

Im not sure if these spots are correct (because the spots on the cover are much bigger), but I used a mask for "Dayfighters" and that seemed to be right for me 🙂
Next step is airbrushing the brown spots, but for that it need to become cooler and not as hot as it is now....
8 August 2015, 12:59
Erik Houghton
You should try lifting the stencil slightly from the surface with Patafix or rolled tape to get a softer edge, if that is possible.
8 August 2015, 16:26
Soeren R.
Camo paint job done! Dont know if this is anywhere near correct, but looks good to me. (Box and instructions have another pattern)
8 August 2015, 16:27
Burkhard D
Well, it is a Luftwaffe 46 airplane, so there's no right or wrong. Just do as you like it 🙂
8 August 2015, 17:32
Soeren R.
You re right Burkhard😉, but after all I want to build even What If kits as near as possible to the possible reality 🙂
So NO pink P.1099 for example 😛
8 August 2015, 17:33
Erik Houghton
A pink one would be............awkward looking. Perhaps [****]ographic 😄
8 August 2015, 18:19
Soeren R.
@ Erik
I oversprayed the spots with a heavy diluted RLM 65 to soften the edges.
You can probably see it a little bit on the last pic.
8 August 2015, 22:07
Choppa Nutta
I'm really liking the direction this is going in, the scheme really suits it 🙂
8 August 2015, 23:38
Soeren R.
Thanks 🙂
9 August 2015, 06:07
Kerry COX
Your full of surprises Soeren. 🙂
Looking good. 🙂 👍
9 August 2015, 07:08
Soeren R.
Thanks Kerry 🙂
Im not 100% happy with the camo spots and I would probably paint bigger ones the next time
9 August 2015, 07:56
Christian Ristits
Love the camo!
9 August 2015, 08:01
Soeren R.
Thx Christian.
Ive oversprayed the spots now with a heavy diluted paint so you dont see the hard edges anymore
9 August 2015, 08:08
Martien Lourens
He Soeren It's going very well with this one. (like all your models) Nice fine spots. beautiful paintwork. 👍👍👍
9 August 2015, 11:49
Soeren R.
Thx a lot Martien! 🙂
Yeah I was afraid of doing the spots at first, but the Airwaves mask is a BIG help for that!
9 August 2015, 12:07
Bulldog Scale Models
Great work, Soeren
9 August 2015, 21:35
Soeren R.
Thanks😉 Sadly I couldnt make any progress because uts way to hot in Munich even more when you live und er the roof 🙁
9 August 2015, 21:46
Martien Lourens
So I am glad that I live on the coast, Soeren. There is always a little cooler.
I hope your models do not melt 🙂
10 August 2015, 04:22
Soeren R.
Luckily they didnt - till now 😛
But its still isnt really great when you sweat like hell during modelling ....
So then its for my only buying not modelling over the next days 😛 😛 😛
10 August 2015, 04:43
Soeren R.
I heard now from some that the spots (or better the whole model with spots) are kind of looking like a plastic toy.
Whats your opinion, because those people meant that freehand will look much better and Im kind of unsecure about it right now?!
10 August 2015, 08:15
Łukasz Gliński
I guess this depends strongly on kind of airbrush you use
e.g. in my case the freehand would mean huuuuge spots😉
10 August 2015, 10:03
Soeren R.
🙂 Yeah thats true.
Im using a Evolution with a 0,2 needle, but I dont have the skill (yet) to apply such spots freehand....
10 August 2015, 11:09
Erik Houghton
Practice practice practice, Soeren 🙂 You just have to sit with some scraps of kits and play with the airbrush.
10 August 2015, 12:22
Soeren R.
Yeah I know 🙂 and I will try that as soon it gets colder, but even without practicing I still think that the spots are okay and it doesnt look like a toy (heard that from some people)
10 August 2015, 12:26
Łukasz Gliński
I'd try to use the mask on some sheet of paper or whatever, but mounting the mask couple of mm above the surface, so there's a little gap in between - just an idea - I have to test it myself once upon a time, but it's melting hot in here and I don't even approach my workspace currently
10 August 2015, 12:38
Soeren R.
True and I did that or better said I didnt press them on the surface , instead I hold them a few mm over the plastic and sprayed then.
But I will try Blue Tac the next time and see if this will also work.
And after all that I sprayed a heavy diltued mix of the base color over the spots.
10 August 2015, 12:50
Burkhard D
Give it a try on a surplus model or plastic sheet. Very low pressure, tip of the airbrush very cose to the surface, only a few millimeters away, very diluted paint preferably with a fast-evaporating solvent. Then you can build-up a mottle-speck until it has the right opacity and size. I am pretty sure there's a how-to video on Youtube.
If the highly diluted paint doesn't work four you then you may try a less-diluted mix of clearcoat and mottle-color, requires a bit more pressure then with added risk of overspray.
10 August 2015, 12:54
Soeren R.
Thanks Burkhard.
Think I will try it and see how it will work out😉
10 August 2015, 12:56
Nils Steyaert
looks great, i got 2 of these in the stash, im planning on building one of them in Japanese markings as a torpedo bomber 🙂
10 August 2015, 15:18
Soeren R.
After a little bit of time without modelling, I did some work on my current project.
Not much but at least a little bit of progress after all 🙂
18 August 2015, 18:50
Soeren R.
Next step a another clear coat and then decals! 🙂
22 August 2015, 08:13
Bulldog Scale Models
good Work Soeren
22 August 2015, 17:45
Martin Jakobsen
Nice work mate, what did you use to mask the canopy with? Eduard mask?
22 August 2015, 18:00
Soeren R.
Thank you both! 🙂

I did that "freestyle" 🙂
As far as I know there arent even any masks for this kis.
22 August 2015, 18:02
Choppa Nutta
liking it ! 🙂
22 August 2015, 18:06
Soeren R.
Thats nice to hear Choppa! 🙂
22 August 2015, 18:08
Soeren R.
Decals done!
Took some time, because it has some more stencils.
After all this Im quite happy with the result, even I found some flaws in the paint and the build now 🙁
23 August 2015, 13:32
Choppa Nutta
that is a good thing Soeren as it means you are paying attention to the details 🙂
23 August 2015, 14:40
Soeren R.
Thats true! 🙂
23 August 2015, 14:46
Soeren R.
So clear coat is now also on it.
Next step a little wash and another matt coat.
23 August 2015, 17:29
Soeren R.
Calling her done! Not perfect, but still happy with the result!
1 September 2015, 16:29
Choppa Nutta
I like it, sits well next to the Horten 🙂
Your build makes me want one ! 😄
1 September 2015, 16:33
Soeren R.
🙂 Then do it!
Its a really nice kit and something not so common! 🙂
1 September 2015, 16:48
Ekki
Excellent work.
1 September 2015, 16:58
Soeren R.
Thank you Ekki! 🙂
1 September 2015, 17:00
Gary
Nice job!! I wonder if the "real" thing would get off the ground? Gary
1 September 2015, 17:24
Soeren R.
Thanks Gary!
Thats indeed a good question, but sadly we will never know (The project was already canceled in '44)
1 September 2015, 17:27
Burkhard D
@Gary Looking at the hairdryer-size engines it would have solely relied on the curvature of earth for takeoff 😄
1 September 2015, 19:51
Soeren R.
Nothing against my two hardryer please! 😛
1 September 2015, 20:54
Ulf Petersen
Very nice, Sören!👍

Soeren R.
Thx a lot Christian!
Im really happy that some you like this unusual plane! 🙂
2 September 2015, 06:29
Łukasz Gliński
Nice finish, the "mottling" turned out to look very neat in the end 🙂
2 September 2015, 09:14
Christian Bruer
Nice and sharp work Soeren, well done!
2 September 2015, 09:33
Soeren R.

3 September 2015, 05:15
Kerry COX
Your now quite the modeller Soeren, and your presentations are something you must be proud of. 🙂
Very well done. 🙂 👍
10 September 2015, 02:51
Soeren R.
Thx Kerr but I still feel like a bloody beginner and also make a lot of stupid/bad mistakes during my builds! 🙂 So lets talk again after kit nr 10-15 ok? 😛
10 September 2015, 04:56
Jan Voorbij
Wonderful, Soeren!
10 September 2015, 05:43
Soeren R.
Thx 🙂
I still dont know if the splinter camo is correct or would be correct that way, but I think it suits the plane!
10 September 2015, 05:50
Kerry COX
Easy done mate, and your bound to enjoy it all. 🙂
10 September 2015, 06:01
Jan Voorbij
Don't be too hard on yourself, Soeren. After all they are "what ifs" 😉
10 September 2015, 14:02
Soeren R.
Thats true Jan, but some day I will probably build a none what if and will use the same method to get this camo done 🙂
10 September 2015, 14:03
Choppa Nutta
There are very few things to knit pick on your models Soeren, it is good work and like Jan says, don't be to hard on yourself, save your hard ons for someone else😉
10 September 2015, 14:33
Soeren R.
😢 Thats true, but that is how I am and probably always will be 😛
We will see how hard Im on myself as soon I build a more difficult kit 🙂
10 September 2015, 14:35
Choppa Nutta
.... perfectionism is a double edged sword, nothing is ever quite good, there is always room for improvement the other side being that you will always make progress and get better.
I doubt the best modellers ever say "yeah that's good enough"
there will always be something they can do better next time 🙂
10 September 2015, 14:38
Soeren R.
I agree and I have still a LOT to learn.
I kind of forget quite often that Ive only build 5 kits so far 🙂
10 September 2015, 14:39
Choppa Nutta
now you're just showing off !! haha 😄
10 September 2015, 14:42
Soeren R.
😄 Whys that? 🙂
10 September 2015, 14:43
Choppa Nutta
only five models in and you're already producing good work😉
10 September 2015, 14:46
Soeren R.
Thx Choppa! 🙂
Hopefully I will find some time soon to get back building one of my kits 🙁
10 September 2015, 14:53
Kerry COX
One thing is for sure Soeren. 🙂
You know how to draw and hold a crowd. LOL. 🙂
10 September 2015, 19:09
Łukasz Gliński
5 kits only? You must be kidding us... 🙂
Maybe you have shown us that 5 models only and the rest is hidden somewhere, huh?
10 September 2015, 19:20
Soeren R.
They are hiding! 🙂 Unbuild in moving boxes 😛
To be precise : 5 kits finished and 5 kits on my desk 🙂
10 September 2015, 19:23
Jan Voorbij
I can get completely demoralised when I see all this gems here, knowing I will never in this lifetime reach the same level of ability. As modellers we have the inexplicable drive for perfection. I have nothing against it. As long as it does not evaporise our joy for moddelinng. I for one just started working on the impossible Airfix Vought Kingfisher from 1967. It will be far from perfect since this kit has many issues. But hey, I love the Kingfisher! It's a beautiful nifty little plane, so why not build it? I'll see how far I can get with this one. Enjoying myself in the building process is all what counts. Am I right? Yes I'm right 😉
11 September 2015, 09:48
Soeren R.
Of course you are right Jan! 🙂
Btw you and demoralised?! You have looked at your latest Ki-46 from Airfix (which is not a really good kit) and your SM 79 or your other Italian Air Force builds right?
They are outstanding and the paint job is awesome!! That is probably something I will never achieve!
So be proud of your builds 🙂
11 September 2015, 10:25
Ekki
Who cares what others have achieved? We are building not to please others but to please ourselves. Once you start emulating others you've gone down the wrong lane. Know who you are! Know what your limitations are and just enjoy the finished product/model with all its limitations.
11 September 2015, 18:34
Soeren R.
Nodoy said that we didnt Ekki!
But Im also a guy that is happy for others when they achieved something nice/great like Jan with his Italian camo! 🙂 And I stay to that.
11 September 2015, 18:38
Ekki
Oh, don't get me wrong! I love to see the result of other people's efforts! And the more the better! Or should it be the better the more (even though the last sentence might be ungrammatical).
11 September 2015, 18:50
Jan Voorbij
Bravo Ekki! Well put! I'm very proud of the fact that I can tell a story about every kit I built since I picked up the hobby again in late 2010. Not only about their historical, tactical or technical aspect, but also about my own building process. 🙂
11 September 2015, 20:53
Bart Goesaert
nice work on these, and interesting discussion... I do love to look at other projects, some building tips can be found everywhere, and at the moment I don't have a lot of time to build, so I needed to make a change for now from PE and resin upgrades to OOB. Luckily I'm forced to upgrade my painting skills like that, and hopefully my AB skills too.

@ Jan: what you do with a paintbrush, I'll take my hat of to you and bow with the deepest respect... what you did on the Italian birds, and your He-177... simply incredible
13 September 2016, 08:45
Kerry COX
I do agree with all that has been said in praise of you work and improving skills Soeren. 🙂
Keep eying off that stash of yours and don't let it get too big. lol 🙂
