Small aircraft, large launch tower. Will not not fit in the display case.. Inspired in making this kit when i saw Arne's Natter.

Indeed it is Christian. The Natter itself is very small but it comes in a large box because of the tower, so the choice for building this one is a practical choice... more space in the closet for new kits 😄!

🙂 Erik
When building the tower keep care of the etched wing support rails. Because of their length they are hard to bend and to allign to the tower. Build the Natter first and then use it as a template for the rails. You will end up with a Natter that perfectly sits in her bed.
Good luck mate!
BTW: Same advice for the etched ladders...

Thanks Christian will take your advice in account 👍.
What do you think about the nose of M17? Dragon suggests the smooth nose, but when i look at pictures of the M17(the yellow version as on the box) it seems the nose was the other version with the "hump".

Well Erik I will check my references and come back to You. I think the nose with the bumper is the right one.
Do You know this one?

Do not know that book Christian, looks like a nice one. I only have Waffen Arsenal 118 and X planes of the 3rd reich..
What do you think about the colour? Some say RLM5, others say RLM4.

Came across a nice reference drawing of the differences of the various Ba 349's, since I'm making a unmanned prototype version, the M17, this Natter is Ba349V. So the elevons needed to be shortened. Had read that in a review of this kit but I thought it was only for the small horizontal pieces.

Boxart from the kit would be a rlm 4 ,museum piece would be more a rlm 5 .
I think the Rlm 5 would fit the best .

Added the PE launch rails today, 6 pieces of 16cm long stubborn PE.. Must be bent in a U-shape but so that posed a problem for me. Luckily my friend Rob let me use his PE bender 👍

I noticed that 😄. It made me resume my Fokker that was on the shelf of Doom. Luckily a PE bender did the trick, although it was not easy too

Gave the tower a coat of RLM02, did not know what colour it should be but on the box art it looks like RLM02. Spraying the tower was quite a challenge since most paint flew around it😄. Natter is painted in RLM04 with a drop of grey. On the photos it looks bright yellow but that is because of the mobile phone i think. After a matt coat it will look much nicer i hope 👍

Time to mask the pattern on the wings, Dragon supplied a decal for that but not a very good one. 5 beams on each wing but as can be seen on my last picture of the album it should be 6 on the left and 5 on the right. And what color? Blue as suggested by Dragon or black as think is more accurate? Anybody with a suggestion?

Don't worry about the yellow, it's a machine for single use so it's bound to look shiny and new. Shame about the decal, that will be a pain in the ass to mask yourself

I'm not one who should probably voice his opinion about colors but I tend to follow box instructions over my own research. In this case though maybe there is a third possibility and that is to do a dark blue with some black in it getting that midnight color. I have not been able to successfully create my own grey-blue or black-blue so I often use my Model Master 1772 Blue Angel Blue. I am posting because I look forward to reading others comments.

Hmm I still tend to black, since yellow/black are colors used for high visibility. I mean, the stripes are used for better determination if the plane is upside down or not when seen from the ground. So why not use a high contrast color like black on yellow? However, a dark blue should have have the same contrast difference..

I can follow Erik, also made the thought, what about red, because it tends to appear as black in black and white photo's, but nowadays visual reference points for tests are also in black/white or black/yellow...
On the other side, found some pictures of a museum model with on both sides the 5 stripes, so I guess Dragon got their mustard from there...

Thanks Jan and Kees! And Bart you are right about the red. But I think i will stick to black. The museum piece in München also displays it in black and i think a museum like that knows where "Abraham gets it's mustard" 😄 Think it will look cool too, black on yellow.

Finally managed to make the streaks on the wings..was not very easy, used a lot of tape on failed attempts. Quite happy with the result, not perfect but it works for me now. On the wing-fuselage connection the paint has crawled under the tape but that's ok, the wooden wings brackets that are used to launch the Natter will cover that 🙂

Natter and tower finished, now I need to make some sort of small dio to display the tower on. A snowy scene since this Natter was launched from of a snowy Germany in dec '44. Never made a dio/vignette before so I wonder wonder what I can make of it 🙂

Thanks mates! There are still al couple of small things to do but it's finished for about 99%. Made a better picture for you Wim 😄! Also quite hard to take a decent picture of the complete package. When it's completely finished i will make some pictures of the Natter itself.
