AREA 88: Yak-38 (A.G.F.)
The box shot, of course.
Sprues look pretty clean. Not sure about those decals though, they look pretty old.
Just started cutting and glueing some bits together. No idea what the purpose of that engine is. You can't see it at all on the inside.
Added a firewall and angled the rear of the cockpit to be more realistic. The canopy won't close now, but that's okay.
Added some interior details to the cockpit.
Added a dashboard.
Not sure I can fit anything else in there.
Cut open the air intakes and boxed them off.
Repurposed Spad XIII wheels will work as lower fans... I hope.
Got some colour down. Wasn't sure what colour I wanted to do the cockpit, but Tamiya XF-71 seemed a good choice when in doubt.
Added modified decals from an Academy F-8E Crusader to the cockpit and cut out the secondary vents on the air intakes.
Glued together...
Need to adjust the vents and the fans.
Putty and sanding.
Ok... the primer is on.
Let's see if we can get the undershading to work...
Paint on... undershading nowhere to be seen.
Decals on, but they're so old they're silvering.
Cockpit could be better... but I can live with it.

Thanks Guys! I sprayed the cockpit with Tamiya primer to get ready to paint it, but it went all runny on me for some reason, so I think I need to clean it off and try again.

After a bit of a break due to work-related travel, I'm back at it. Not much of an update, but got some paint down on the cockpit and the air intakes.

Well... it's done... enough. This project was a Murphy's law of errors. I'm not sure why, but the painting was a mess, i kept getting these little sparkles... I killed a bunch of the decals... including the control panel... sigh... sometimes done is done. I still like this weird plane, so I may have another crack at it someday if I run across another kit.

Thanks guys. I took this one down off the shelf to clean up and finish off a few things. The main thing was adding the numbers. The decals were so ancient and fragile that the first 4 attempts ended in defeat. I originally wanted a red "31" but after killing all the 3s I had to settle for yellow 21 instead. Putting the decals one was like brain surgery, so I don't even care that they silvered pretty badly.
