BELGIANS MIRAGE III CRASHED IN CRETE ISLAND SEP 1973
Comments
I think so gorby. Except if the habitants (sheperds and others)have taken pieces of the aircraft. As you see the place is very mountainous and sauvage.
Album info
On 06 September 1973, two Belgian Mirage ΙΙΙ planes crashed on the Cretan mountains.
Short after take-off from Souda Bay (Crete), BA32, BA38 and a third aircraft got into bad weather and the aircrews decided to return to Souda. A short time after this 2 of the aircraft crashed into Mount Kaloros, and Potami in the Lefka Ori mountains area, within 1 minute of each other. The 3rd aircraft safely landed at Souda Bay. Pilot Adj.vl.Jo Van Avermaet of BA32 and Pilot O.Lt.vl.Jacques Chaput of BA38 were unfortunately killed in this crash. Both cocpits were completely destroyed from crash, planes were also detonated with TNT and parts were removed to avoid spying during the cold war from USSR...
