First dry fit shows that Academy's Wildca fuselage is somewhat wider.

Aires cockpit is made for Hasegawa Wildcat, so this one needs some putty to fill empty space.

Hasegawa with Quickboost engine. Original engine alignment had to go plus additional wall thickening was necessary.

At Academy Wildcat I used the eduard PE set 73538 to make the details inside wheel well.

Used the colored PE sheet from Eduards 73538 to remake the Hasegawa cockpit. It fits quite well although its designed for Airfix kit. Only the control panel is completely different.

Made the internal fuel tanks from epoxy putty.

Here are the both undercarriage legs, both are similar in detail and construction. Below is the attempt to scratch build the wall inside the wheel well.

Today i got some free old unrepairable watches from local jewelery store. I want to use those small teethy wheels to represent the landing gear retracting mechanism at my Hasegawa F4F. They are a bit larger, but still best i could find.

Ooo... someone else working on an Academy 1/72 Wildcat! Lemme see! I have a project in the works as well, all scratchbuilt cockpit and wheel well, So I'm keen to steal good ideas. I also scratched up some wing folds. Are you going down that route?

Yeah. I agree. I have both of those and the Airfix one is in a class by itself. I prefer the Academy one to the Hasegawa one, for a few reasons... including the fact that I picked up 3 Academy kits for about $2 apiece. 😉
