This is a conversion from Mirage Hobbies scale 1/350 Flower Class Corvette HMS Zinnia into an early short forecastle configuration. I chose the Canadian build and used K131 HMCS Chilliwack. For more information about the original you should take alook to this web side:
forposterityssake.ca.._CHILLIWACK_K131.htm
Next to the website I choose "Anatomy Of The Ship, The Flower Class Corvette Agassiz" by John McKay & John Harland, published by Conway Maritime Press as an excellent resource.
Following my WIP you will get all the necessary information about the conversion and scratch built techniques I use to convert the kit into a replique of one of the hard driven convoy escorts of the second world war's battle of the atlantic.
Cheers, Christian

Shipmates and landlubbers, welcome aboard. Stow your kitbags and hammocks and take a seat. The bosun will have an eye on you, so take care not to go overboard before we are in a fairway😄

I made some progress in detailing the main upperworks. Windows are cutted out and portholes drilled. The gun is assembled, with the barrel replaced by a brass part. The stack is detailed using brass and styrene rod. The aft mount for the gun plattform is in place. In contrast to the Flowers build for the Royal Navy, the Canadian Flowers had their mount aft of the engine room skylight because the had a mainmast in front of the skylight.
So far all comes together very well. The next steps should be sanding and cleaning the deck and upperworks to add details like doors, hatches, handrails etc. before I can add the deck to the hull.
Cheers, Christian

Touching that the link has photos of some of the crew, I googled before I read your opening post .... doh ! ah well, I found this though,

Anyhow another interesting project Christian, I don't know why but I seem to be getting urges to build a boat for some reason 😉 😄

Nice photo of her in her late war configuration with extended forecastle and modified bridge and mast aft. Interesting, the censor retouched the Type 271 radar lantern.
Well, if you want to start a ship I can highly recommend the brand new Starling Models River Class Frigate in scale 1/350😉

The kit is available now and has excellent deatils.

Nice suggestion Christian, looks like a quality kit but I suspect a bit pricey, however you've reminded me that I have a 1/700 Nimitz carrier to finish off somewhere 😉
Now I come to think of it, I did do a ship once 🙂 -

I am with Lode (a bit late...). Great work so far, and another inspiration for all CB fans to build a ship 👍

Thank you all and don't worry, it is never to late. You know I'm building slow 😄
Well Choppa I remember you egg carrier plane build. Great idea and well executed. Mhhh, the Nimitz with it's airwing is a big project for a more or less first ship built. But anyhow you will make it. It would be fine to see you starting the Nimitz.
Today I modified the backrush along the upper deck and glued the deck in place so that I could start building the structure below the forward deck. There are some small modifications to do but it fits well so far.
Cheers, Christian

..Actually rummaging through my stash it seems I have 3 boats !
... well 4 actually as I've got two Pibbers 🙂
But the Nimitz is started though, it's only 1/720 and without the PE not to daunting,
although getting the PE would definitely enhance the model ....
though I can see the airwing getting fiddly ! 😄

Mind you I like the prices of 1/1200 scale, this might be a good starting point for ships 😄

I don't know if you like the price of a good mental institution Choppa? 1/700 is fidgety enough for me! 🙂

Haha 😄
Yeah Martin I hear you, 1/1200 is super tiny but the kits are cheap and thus a good scale to get acclimatized so that moving up to 1/700 will feel not so small after all😉 😄
Plus the 1/1200 scale is good for table top war gaming 🙂
Haha 😄

Hehe Lode yep you're infected with the ship virus definitely 👍
Hahaha, Peter. I guess they'll need a bit more time to build a ship instead a motorbike. So don't worry about it so far😄
Well Bart that sound nice, but where is it?
Mhhh Martin, Choppa, don't mention the scale, AMS is everywhere. I bought a few scale 1:1250 white metal ship models and start detailing them with brass guns and masts. I also bought PE railing in scale 1:1250. But they're on hold now. Don't know why I bought them, I guess to make sure to build a quick project and finish something - a failure I think 😄 😄 😄
Well some thoughts for tonight.
Cheers, Christian

I have the revell kit in 1/700, always been thinking about trying this one, the splinter camo is always applied. Don't think I'll add the trees that aided in the disguise though...

Well Lode the old 1/72 scale Flower is another big project. There are a mass of aftermarket sets to build the kit in museum quality.
When I was a child it was my dream model. I still remember the big box (Matchbox) and it's boxart, sitting ontop of the shelf in our local hobby shop.
Today I wouldn't built the kit, but spent my time better to progress some more scale 1/350's.
Tirpitz is nice and there are some interesting camouflage schemes.
Looking forward seeing your Tirpitz Bart!

Haha Choppa, well the Empire Strikes Back and build another Flower 😄
Lode, you shoul give it a try. It is easier than it looks.
Mhh, Spanjaard, it is my second Flower and it should come out better than the first one. I made some improvements in the design of the wheel house etc. Time will tell how it will look at the end.
Thank you all my friends for your very kind comments🙂

The Canadians designed an own radar, the Type SW1C, used on their Flower Class Corvettes It was placed on a mast which was fixed to the fore mast. The rotation was done by hand.
The fore mast with the SW1C radar was compeltely scratch built using brass rod and styrene profiles. The crow nest and some fittings comes next.
