I wish Revell (or others) had made a Type IX in 1:144 scale as well.

Btw, there is some photo etch that can be bought for this kit. One PE set includes PE deck and some other stuff.

Treehugger, in fact that's exactly what I'll do : a nice Revell Sub in 1:144 with PE 🙂

Yes mates, a great kit indeed! With some really nice aftermarket stuff available too. But this will be a OOB build since it's my first ship/u-boat, the only one in the stash too. I'm a airplane builder but wanted to do something outside the comfort zone. May I get the submarine/ship virus, someday I will make this kit again with some AM stuff 🙂

This Type VII kit is really a nice display piece. 🙂
Heh, I think I have three of these kits now. I started building one, but I was unhappy with the result and used it for airbrushing practice. I later bought another kit (Type VIIc/41), and then.. another one Type VIIc.

Ha, nearly! 😄 LOL
I have to say that 1:144 is the best scale for Subs.

Well Holger I'm not a ship builder but I guess for this sub it is a proper scale. It has a decent size and enough detail. And it is joy to build too

Well Thomas, I like it very much! Not too many parts, decent size and perfect fit, what more do we want? I'm sure I'll build at least another one in my modelling career 🙂

The U-boot is nearing completion now. Weathered it a bit by adding some rust and fouling, hope it's not too heavy now.. Also, this kit is so much fun that I have bought another U-boat in the same scale today🙂. The type XXI, quite a bigger boat! Also, gave the display stand a wood look with some oil paint.

Completely done now 🙂. For me as a plane builder this was a really really nice project. It has sparked my interest in u-boats, in ww1/ww2 submarines in general to be honest. This will be my 2nd main interested, after air planes🙂

I think I will copy this color scheme for mine. 🙂 Nice contrast on the deck and what a fun looking stand (I like it).

Actually, the stand is included in the kit Treehugger! Off course you have to paint it though.

Thanks Jos🙂. It was nice to build something different. But this is a great kit too, it really builds itself.

I see that even with such model kits in 1:48 scale, they don't make perforations along the hull. I don't understand why Revell kept the holes shut. I plan to drill out and sand clean the elongated holes on the sides. Some photo etch aftermarket parts provide some perforated parts for smaller openings. On the inside of the hull, afaik the water slosh around and the crew compartment is inside this container.

Dunno Treehugger! I just filled them up with some black paint.
@Jos, good to hear that mate! Looking forward to your build! The type VIIc/41 is the most widely available Revell 1/144 type VII uboat atm.
