Maciej Bellos
Niiiiiiice!
15 August 2019, 20:31
Clifford Keesler
Nice choice.
16 August 2019, 00:43
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Maciej and Clifford, glad that you like my choice 🙂
After inspecting all pictures of the 33 I decided to go with the walkways on top
I was a democratic decision😄 1 to 15 for walkways
16 August 2019, 04:45
Konrad -
Very crowded here 😮!
Is there some free Space left... Ahh found it!
Very nice choice Stephan! I'm excited how this turns out 🙂!

I think I have to rent a bigger room😉
16 August 2019, 14:14
Clifford Keesler
I will be doing an F-18 also, I hope I can do half as well as I know yours is going to be.
17 August 2019, 01:40
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Clifford for your kind comment 🙂 but I'm shure your's will be also a beauty

Stephan Ryll
Mates you're welcome 🙂
You don't have to hurry😉 still 28 days left till the start of this part of the GB
2 September 2019, 18:47
Clifford Keesler
Getting my "ducks " in a row.
3 September 2019, 01:54
Nathan Dempsey
This is going to be one sweet Hornet.
3 September 2019, 03:47
Stephan Ryll
thank you mates - only 27 days to go😉
3 September 2019, 17:21
Stephan Ryll
Indeed 25 days left - need another small kit to build😉 May some loadout like Hans did 🤔
5 September 2019, 17:18
Clifford Keesler
I was going through my decals today, and I have a set for that particular aircraft. Did not even know it. LOL. There are other aircraft on that sheet as well.
6 September 2019, 00:37
Stephan Ryll
The good one on this Clifford is, that this bird had no stencils 🙂
7 September 2019, 07:32
Clifford Keesler
Amen to that. Sometimes the stencils are the hardest thing to find for a particular aircraft.
10 September 2019, 00:41
Bart Goesaert
Nice jacket for this birdie...
10 September 2019, 13:44
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Clifford and Bart 🙂
Still 19 days to work on something else 🤔 I started with gardening, but that's all done now 🤔
What next... what next ...😉
12 September 2019, 15:25
Maciej Bellos
You can, say, start a model...😉
12 September 2019, 18:57
Slavo Hazucha
... or spectacularly exercise the man's right to bear arms as Hans does...😉
12 September 2019, 20:06
Nathan Dempsey
That hobby is a black hole for $$ just like this one is--
[img1]?c=2&imbypass=on&imbypass=on

12 September 2019, 23:25
Stephan Ryll
Thank you mates - I will fix the setup for the next projects and build some ordonance like Hans
@ Nathan - looks like a helmet 🤔 - may something to put one when my wife sees the next incomming kits 😄
13 September 2019, 07:16
Nathan Dempsey
The patch on the helmet is "2 right bear arms" 🙂
13 September 2019, 12:03
Stephan Ryll
Ah understood Nathan - here is the result of the things I done
some loadout | Album by gaftic87 (1:48)
13 September 2019, 12:44
Nathan Dempsey
Looks like your armory is ready!
13 September 2019, 12:52
Bryn Crandell
Watching this one. Hoping to join this group build. Haven't decided what to build.
13 September 2019, 13:03
Stephan Ryll
Thank you mates, indeed a lot a armory is done but won't be used on this bird 🙂
13 September 2019, 14:29
Stephan Ryll
So this is finally also on the run 🙂
First thing to do is sand down the nasty seam on the clear parts 🙂
2 October 2019, 19:50
Kerry COX
After you have removed the clear parts from the tree with a hot blade. 😉
2 October 2019, 20:01
Stephan Ryll
Kerry this is exactly the way I will do it - thank you for all that tips and tricks you showed us so many times 🙂
2 October 2019, 20:15
Kerry COX
Good to know I have been of use at times. LOL. hahahaha 😉
Once the parts have been removed from the tree, just 'shave' the remainder from the parts to be used to prevent any shattering if you try to take too much off at a time.
2 October 2019, 21:11
Clifford Keesler
I will remember that Keza.
3 October 2019, 01:39
Patrick Hagelstein
Learning something new every time here! 🙂 👍
3 October 2019, 03:15
Donald Dickson II
I'll watch this. 🙂
3 October 2019, 03:22
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Kerry - done 🙂
Always good to get some advise - it's working very well
Also used parafilm for masking the inside of the clear canopy parts 🙂
Thank you all for watching this build, you're all welcome 🙂
3 October 2019, 10:20
Sergej I
In! 👍
3 October 2019, 10:38
Donald Dickson II
Stephan, just the inside? I use the parafilm for the outside.
3 October 2019, 11:19
Stephan Ryll
All welcome 🙂
@ Donald - for the outside I have some masks😉
3 October 2019, 12:41
Patrick Hagelstein
I like that PJ pilot! Let's get some paint slapped on! 😄
3 October 2019, 16:08
Kerry COX
Parrafilm 'M' how I love it, both on the inner and the outer. 😉 👍
3 October 2019, 16:19
Daniel
looks like hes about to eat a hotdog 😄
3 October 2019, 16:20
Konrad -
Damn now I see a HotDog😉!
Cool progress Stephan looking forward to this one 👍!
3 October 2019, 17:52
Stephan Ryll
Yes mates

Paint Parafilm and Hot Dogs
That's the stuff for modeling😢
I think the Hot Dog is a check list - or it's a pilot from „Hot Shots"😉
3 October 2019, 19:37
Clifford Keesler
Cool pilot figure. Where do you guys find these things? LOL.
3 October 2019, 21:20
Patrick Hagelstein
Belgium.......
3 October 2019, 21:40
Stephan Ryll
Indeed PJ Production has a wide range of figures

pj-production.be/en/
4 October 2019, 07:49
Holger Kranich
Always interesting how different a seat can look. Is there a seam on the windscreen?
4 October 2019, 08:05
Harry Eder
Have you planed to change the pilots helmet to the newer HGU-55?
4 October 2019, 08:58
Stephan Ryll
@ Holger - there are seams on every part in this kit 🤔 - clear parts as well - but that will only need some extra work

@Harry - this build will show a plane from 2009 - therefore I will not change the helmet - my reference also shows a normal helmet
4 October 2019, 10:21
Nathan Dempsey
Great looking cockpit 🙂
5 October 2019, 16:02
Konrad -
Stunning 👍 👍 👍
5 October 2019, 16:48
Slavo Hazucha
Smart looking workspace 👍 Great start, looking forward to see more!
5 October 2019, 17:01
Jos Jansen
Nice pit so far Stephan, crispy...!
5 October 2019, 17:04
Maciej Bellos
Great pit!
5 October 2019, 19:18
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Hans, Nathan, Konrad, Slavo, Jos and Maciej 🙂
Glad that you like the pit 🙂
The intakes will be challenging 🤔 hope to get this done during the next days
5 October 2019, 20:00
Clifford Keesler
Excellent pit.
6 October 2019, 00:34
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Clifford for your kind comment 🙂

The design and engineering of the intakes is a nightmare - no fit at all 🤔
6 October 2019, 13:36
Stephan Ryll
Added some pictures with issues I had with the fuselage and air intakes 🤔
6 October 2019, 17:27
Konrad -
Cool stuff you showing here👍! Nice work and at the end it will look awesome!
I build the Kinetic F16 the second time at the moment and there are also a view issues to solve.

But anyhow your on the right way to show us another great plane 👍!!
6 October 2019, 21:11
Harry Eder
Nice progress Stephan! 👍 Please can you tell me, which book is that in the first pic, the open one? 🤔
7 October 2019, 06:42
Slavo Hazucha
Thanks Stephan for posting all these topics - I´ve got a Kinetic Hornet coming my way for the GB, so it´s great to know in advance!😉
7 October 2019, 08:34
Patrick Hagelstein
Wow! pictures 11 till 15 are some serious wonky shizzle.... 🙁
7 October 2019, 12:44
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Konrad,Hans, Harry, Slavo and Ptrick for your motivating words
Today I had to order a new tube of putty
Both air intakes are now glued to the fuselage - the inner intake tubes are primed from the inside
Left side will need some putty to fit the right side is ok - don't ask why - it's all Kinetic😉
7 October 2019, 18:03
Daniel
what I ve heard about the kit seems to be true😉 but I see that you re coming out victorious, very nice work 👍
7 October 2019, 18:42
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Daniel for your kind words 🙂 , hope to get a good result out of this 🤔
8 October 2019, 05:26
Bart Goesaert
Nice colors, in the ground it is a nice kit, just have to get it in there... a lot of dryfitting and sanding, but otherwise...
8 October 2019, 11:28
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Bart for your kind comment. 🙂
I ordered already some more sanding sticks and putty - and some good nerves for the closing of the main airframe😉
8 October 2019, 17:28
Clifford Keesler
Looking very nice Stephan.
8 October 2019, 19:04
Nathan Dempsey
I agree. Some nice work on those intakes.
8 October 2019, 19:06
Slavo Hazucha
The intakes look really good after your treatment 👍
8 October 2019, 21:07
Kerry COX
Nearly missed this one, but now I see what has been encountered and solved, my beer tastes twice as good. Well done Mr Ryll. 👍.
8 October 2019, 22:26
Patrick Hagelstein
Way to go Stephan!!! 👍 I'm so glad I found reference pictures with intake and exhaust covers! 😄
8 October 2019, 23:06
Donald Dickson II
Nice solution there! *makes note*
8 October 2019, 23:18
Konrad -
Very nice 👍!
9 October 2019, 04:30
Stephan Ryll
Thank you mates for your kind comments they are much appreciated 🙂 I'm also happy with the result till now
I had a glass of wine after that battle😉 cheers Kerry😉
I also found a nice picture of the intakes wich show a lot of streaks - so I can apply some weathering inside
9 October 2019, 17:50
Daniel
looks great&smooth 👍 can you upload/link the intake photo? I am always looking for more references there 🙂
9 October 2019, 21:00
Slavo Hazucha
Indeed, a ref picture of a nicely used intake would be most appreciated!
9 October 2019, 21:05
Stephan Ryll
Thank you mates 🙂
Very nice dirty intakes pictures are uploaded - enjoy the dirt😉
10 October 2019, 19:11
Patrick Hagelstein
Try replicating THAT! 😄
10 October 2019, 19:33
Maciej Bellos
Well, that's not white, is it?
10 October 2019, 19:47
Slavo Hazucha
Nice indeed...
10 October 2019, 20:06
Kerry COX
A grotty sucker if ever there was. ! 👍 😉
10 October 2019, 20:24
Donald Dickson II
Wow, yeah, totally not white at all. LOL
10 October 2019, 21:27
Stephan Ryll
Indeed mates - so you can have both the clean variant and the dirty one😉
I will decide later which way to go - but I found some evidence that on some planes the outerhull colour was also in the firsts 60 cm of the intakes 🤔 mmh so much options
11 October 2019, 14:45
Patrick Hagelstein
Me too! 😉
11 October 2019, 20:06
Clifford Keesler
Looking very nice Stephan.
11 October 2019, 21:25
Daniel
Thx for the pics Stephan, intake weathering will be the new thing in scale modelling 🙂
11 October 2019, 21:56
Stephan Ryll
Thank you mates you are always welcome 🙂
And yes Daniel, that would be a challenge cause there not much reference available
12 October 2019, 08:05
Stephan Ryll
Just a short update on that nightmare
I had to remove the colour cause the primer did not stay on the surface very well
That's modelers life 😄
17 October 2019, 16:15
Patrick Hagelstein
Wait a minute, what happened??? Did you have to strip those intakes?
17 October 2019, 16:21
Thomas Bischoff
Sorry to hear that - hope you can fix it!
17 October 2019, 16:32
Dave Flitton
Wow, I don't know if I can handle a Kinetic kit with all the fit issues you are having
17 October 2019, 17:36
Stephan Ryll
Thank's mates for your kind words 🙂
Hope to save the intakes - they are masked - hope the paint will stay were it needs to be after demasking 🤔 over the weekend I will have a clear picture 🤔
17 October 2019, 17:37
Patrick Hagelstein
Hang in there Stephan!!! 👍👍
17 October 2019, 18:16
Bart Goesaert
Kinetic it has it's downsides, but also plussides. A lot of versions in one kit, but also constant dry-fitting, sanding,...
17 October 2019, 18:17
Nathan Dempsey
I agree Bart on the dry fitting and sanding for Kinetic models. I had to do this multiple times for the wings on my Cheetah build. Though I'd say many of the newer kits suffer from "over-complication". Sometimes this is due to them trying to do many variants, but other times for no good reason at all.
17 October 2019, 18:38
Clifford Keesler
Hang in there you will get it. The only Kinetic kits I have built is their 1/32 Hawk and 1/48 A-6E. The only one I had issues with was the A-6. I have their 1/48 F-5B, will see how it is. LOL.
18 October 2019, 00:20
Patrick Hagelstein
I recently received their F-104G and looking at the parts in the box, it looks awesome!!! Fingers crossed then... 😉
18 October 2019, 00:55
Stephan Ryll
Update from my yesterday intake rescue mission 🤔
Right intake is still ok - needs only some new color at the entry
Left intake the color went of partly with the masking tape - so this I need to fix 😄
So I don't get bored over the weekend 😄
18 October 2019, 13:48
Patrick Hagelstein
What primer were you using anyway? I remember a discussion here about the issues with different primers, acrylic and lacquer based. I stick to (Mr. Surfacer) lacquer based primers exclusively and, knock on wood, never had any issues.
18 October 2019, 14:17
Stephan Ryll
I use acrylic primer Patrick - did't have that issue so massively like this time
Got a new bottle yesterday - that stuff seems to work so far 🤔
18 October 2019, 14:45
Patrick Hagelstein
Check! Hope it stays on this time! 👍
18 October 2019, 15:22
Stephan Ryll
So that will be the solution for the intake issue
Consequently no pilot in the pit is needed - so I have to rework my dio idea
18 October 2019, 15:40
Patrick Hagelstein
That's exactly what I am going for. I didn't feel like painting up a pilot but now I'm cutting up my wings to liberate the flaps and ailerons. Tomato, tomato I guess....
18 October 2019, 15:55
Daniel
Throw your stones, but I like the vallejo crap, only had peeling problems once when I didnt clean the fat fingers. Otherwise it does what I need it to, unifies, makes scratches visible and is a nice surface for airbrushing all other paint brands, also protective with aggressive spray cans, easy to clean...only minus for me is a longer time to dry thoroughly...
18 October 2019, 17:42
Konrad -
Yep I'm with you Daniel I use the Vallejo stuff for all my builds and it works. All Fingers crossed... Anyhow sorry to hear this Stephan.
But the Hornet will also Look great with closed intakes 👍!
18 October 2019, 20:14
Stephan Ryll
Thank you mates for your comments 🙂
I think it was a aged primer that caused the problem - the new bottle has a thinner liquide and gives a nice result
We have discussion about different primers every month in our modeling team
But I don't want to change so solvents 🤔
18 October 2019, 20:16
Donald Dickson II
Count me as NOT a fan of the acrylic primers. They absolutely do not bite into the plastic and peel at the the drop of a hat.
18 October 2019, 21:57
Jos Jansen
Acrylic primers aren't primers...I totally agree with Donald, if you have tried the lacquer based primers, for example those from Alclad you never want others! After spraying you can sand the lacquer based primer so smoothly for the next layer...no problem at all with peeling of!
19 October 2019, 18:51
Daniel
Dont get too religious mates, everything has its pros and cons and different people like different stuff (and I did actually work with mr surfacer before switching to vallejo)
19 October 2019, 19:20
Patrick Hagelstein
😄 😄 😄 And, off course, we all know Monty Python is always right! 👍
19 October 2019, 19:36
Daniel
😄 cant argue with that 👍
19 October 2019, 19:45
Stephan Ryll
Thank's mates for the lively discussion on that topic 🙂
I will give the acrylic stuff a chance to dry and we will see the result tomorrow
Have the fingers crossed 🙂
19 October 2019, 20:00
Jos Jansen
Good luck Stephan....8)
20 October 2019, 06:08
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Jos
The main hull is closed now but needs a lot of attention, filling and sanding 🤔
The upper side of the intakes need to be painted upfront 🤔 cause you can't reach those parts after closing the hull
Uploaded some pictures of the details
20 October 2019, 17:15
Patrick Hagelstein
I feel you Stephan... 🙁 No matter what brand, no matter what scale, this is something to Bug every Hornet build... I'm with you on this one! 👍
20 October 2019, 18:09
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Patrick your comment is much appreciated🙂
That motivates me to bring this further to the finish line
Ordered already more putty to feed the monster 😄
20 October 2019, 19:51
Clifford Keesler
Coming along nicely Stephan.
20 October 2019, 21:06
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Clifford
Hope to get the gaps closed today
Tomorrow will be sanding day 😄
21 October 2019, 15:30
arne vd burg
Good Job Stephan! watching
21 October 2019, 18:44
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Arne your comment is much appreciated 🙂
Today some more putty arrived - so that I can go on with that ... 🤔
22 October 2019, 15:18
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Hans for your kind comment 👍 hope to have the right mojo to go through those deep valleys of the kit 🤔
Today I nearly finished filling and sanding the seams
Tomorrow will be rescribing all those affected areas and start with fitting in the windscreen to the remarkable hole called cockpit 😄
22 October 2019, 19:46
Donald Dickson II
Wowzers. The Revell kit is a LOT better than this.
22 October 2019, 20:16
Nathan Dempsey
Keep going Stephan! You're overcoming all the obstacles🙂
22 October 2019, 21:07
Clifford Keesler
You can beat it Stephan. I know you will turn out a stunner.
23 October 2019, 01:22
Stephan Ryll
Thank you mates for your motivating words, very much appreciated

Today the following happened on my work bench
Involved were a bottle of extra thin cement, a modeling knive, a rescribing tool, the windscreen of the kit and the instrument panel cover

First the cement bottle dropped and left a sea of liquid on my bench 😄
The first reaction was which part in the sea must be rescued first
I got for the windscreeen and took it out of the sea
Second I rescued the instrument panel cover from the sea
Then I tried to get the rescribing tool with it's plastic handle out of the sea - but the cement already loved the handle 😄
Then I got the knife and secured it

All in all a normal day in modelers life 😄 May as anyone of us had experienced too

So I decided to stop for today and give the thing a new try tomorrow 😄
23 October 2019, 17:48
Donald Dickson II
Ah, much like my adventures with the shark mouth decal on my A-7 last night. Fun stuff!
23 October 2019, 20:50
Patrick Hagelstein
Nooooooooooooooooooohhhhhh!!!!!!! 😮
23 October 2019, 23:01
Nathan Dempsey
Is it salvageable?
23 October 2019, 23:48
Clifford Keesler
OUCH!!!!
23 October 2019, 23:49
Daniel
Argh! I once tried to re-open a revell contacta needle, used too much pressure and it exploded over a nearly finished model... heavy weathering 😄
24 October 2019, 11:51
Stephan Ryll
Thank you much for your kind words mates 🙂 good to know I'm not alone ...
Today I will have a look at the damage I did 😄
Hope to get some pics posted after the assessment of the parts 😄
24 October 2019, 15:13
Donald Dickson II
I can only imagine the canopy is toast.
24 October 2019, 17:12
Stephan Ryll
It seems so at the moment that I had a little luck Donald 🙂 but I did not remove the masking yet

Sanding from the inside is needed hope to get the fog away 🤔
24 October 2019, 17:33
Martin Oostrom
I had a similar experience with ak's still water. Stuff was in a lot of places, including my hair. Luckily it missed my just matt varnished tractor.
Daniel, get the needle out of the plastic. Use a plier to hold the tip in a candle and the stuck glue will burn out of it. Be careful thought, the needle will be HOT.
24 October 2019, 17:36
Danny Meer
Had that with an Tamiya 1/16 rc truck, was working on cables and almost finished...had to place a clear plastic part inside cabin with glue, dropped it on the inside of the window and had a big ugly smudge on it 🙁 had to search few weeks for a new window and luckily found 1 😛
24 October 2019, 18:12
Donald Dickson II
Oh wow, that looks nasty to me...
24 October 2019, 19:55
Daniel
you can still go for a winter diorama…😉 hope you can polish that out!
thats a good tip martin 👍
24 October 2019, 20:42
Stephan Ryll
Thank you mates for your kind comments🙂 and thank you Martin for sharing your tips here🙂

I could safe the windscreen 🙂 it took two hours to bring it back to life with sanding and polishing - puh...
25 October 2019, 17:24
Danny Meer
Nice! looks as good as new 🙂
25 October 2019, 17:28
Nathan Dempsey
Yes! Very nice work Stephan!
25 October 2019, 17:47
Martin Oostrom
Magician!
25 October 2019, 17:53
Konrad -
Awesome Stephan! Very nice work on the windscreen 🙂!
25 October 2019, 18:32
Michael Phillips
That's quite impressive Stephan. That has to feel good to make a huge save like that!
25 October 2019, 18:36
arne vd burg
Excellent job on the windscreen Stephan
25 October 2019, 19:08
Donald Dickson II
Well paddle me with a herring, I didnt think that was salvageable! Great job!
25 October 2019, 19:10
Nathan Dempsey
Youtube Video

25 October 2019, 19:47
Jos Jansen
Crystal clear...👍
25 October 2019, 20:34
Stephan Ryll
Thank you mates for your kind comments, much appreciated after that session of sanding from 600 grid to 2000 grid and polishing the whole thing four times 🙂

And Now for Something Completely Different

As Nathan already mentioned before😉 I love this stuff from Monty 👍

Tomorrow will be fitting the rescued windscreen to the mainframe ... that will be some more sanding😉
25 October 2019, 20:38
Clifford Keesler
Nice save on the wind screen.
25 October 2019, 22:04
Donald Dickson II
See, I just knew you all would not fail to understand the herring reference. 😄
25 October 2019, 22:19
Patrick Hagelstein
😄 😄 😄
26 October 2019, 02:05
Stephan Ryll
Always good to get people to laugh again ... 🙂

The instrumentpanel cover is the next on the rescue list ... but this is not a big deal 🙂
26 October 2019, 08:52
Stephan Ryll
Over the weekend I started to put the PE parts and most of the antennas to the surface 🙂
The instructions are sometimes very odd 🤔
I will clean up all areas before starting with the primer
27 October 2019, 14:30
Patrick Hagelstein
That instrument coaming turned out really good as well. Good save on those parts! 👍
27 October 2019, 17:46
Konrad -
Very nice Stephan! Comes out really cool so far!
27 October 2019, 18:17
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Patrick, Roland and Konrad for your kind comments
Some bling bling on that kit is something I had to do after all that trouble😢
27 October 2019, 19:54
Erik Leijdens
Nice work so far Stephan!
27 October 2019, 20:46
Clifford Keesler
Coming along nicely Stephan.

Danny Meer
wow what happened with the cockpit? almost look like it has been on the heater..
31 October 2019, 11:34
Danny Meer
Yeah now i see it, in corners 😄
31 October 2019, 11:58
Stephan Ryll
Welcome Adam, to that slowly developing build 🙂
@ D. Meer - just some heavy protection against my clumsiness😄
@ Hans - your guess is right😉
31 October 2019, 17:08
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Hans for your kind comment 🙂
I just checked the area - and it's only that kind of dust that goes where it should not go 🙂 it's on top of the colour - so no surgery necessary
7 November 2019, 12:22
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Roland for your kind comment 🙂 I hope that this journey will be successful 🙂
The instructions are a nightmare and the fit is very average compared to the other builds I've done
The kit has the tendency to move towards the garbage bin - you always discover some more challenges the further you go 😄
But I don't own the Hasegawa kit - I think I have to get on in the future 🤔
7 November 2019, 14:16
Patrick Hagelstein
Sorry to say but I don't think Hans is mentioning that speck of dust. There's an indentation on both sides below the windshield and it might be the connection between the clear part and the forward fuselage. Right Hans?
7 November 2019, 16:20
Stephan Ryll
I'm not shure what you're talking about 🤔 you mean that area I marked red in the first picture?
7 November 2019, 16:45
Patrick Hagelstein
Stephan, that picture with the red square answers the question perfectly! Yes, there should be an indentation! 👍 😄
7 November 2019, 17:00
Patrick Hagelstein
Roland, the 'problem' is solved! 😉
7 November 2019, 17:05
Stephan Ryll
Ah I understand
That's what I already found out during dry fit - the clear part includes the frame but does not have the indentation, also the front fuselage does not show that
I uploaded a picture of the clear part
7 November 2019, 17:16
Jos Jansen
I love your progress pics...great work, superb detail man!
7 November 2019, 17:43
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Jos your comment is much appreciated 🙂

Clifford Keesler
Excellent work Stephan.
8 November 2019, 02:08
Jens
I watched silently at your breathtaking work 👍 👍 👍 and frustrated my Kinetic Kit of the Intruder pushed to me, but when I look at your details like that, I keep wondering if I should take it , the cover picture of the Kinetic Kits is so fascinatingly beautiful 😉 Thanks for the great information about the construction of the F 18 👍
8 November 2019, 03:25
Holger Kranich
Jesus what a gap-queen! Halt durch, Du schaffst das!
8 November 2019, 06:06
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Clifford, Jens and Holger for your motivating comments
This kit is reale a „time eater" 🤔
Hope to get the first of 5 camouflage colours done over the weekend
But we're to start - white belly - grey sides - sand camo - dark earth camo - green camo
So many options 😄
8 November 2019, 15:14
Kerry COX
It will be most interesting to see the masking off on this most impressive beast. 👍
8 November 2019, 18:47
Stephan Ryll
Hehe Kerry 🙂 I'm just as exited as you are😉
Actual the kit has a stable orbit around the dustbin 😄
8 November 2019, 19:00
Patrick Hagelstein
Not now anymore, right? In primer it looks nice now.
8 November 2019, 19:36
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Patrick, for your motivating comment 🙂 we will see after the first masking tape is removed 🤔
8 November 2019, 20:36
Patrick Hagelstein
😄
8 November 2019, 20:59
Kerry COX
Hans. The issue of preventing paint coming away with the masking, I have found that Mr Surfacer is the one product that will prevent that from happening, as it has the surface quality that all paints just want to hold on too.
8 November 2019, 21:14
Clifford Keesler
Yes pulling paint off is no fun.
9 November 2019, 01:42
Stephan Ryll
Due to the fact that I can't use solvents it happens from time to time
And it's Murphy's law that it happpens on the last colour 😄
9 November 2019, 08:33
Jos Jansen
Try definitely the Alclad primer Stephan, for sure I'll have no problem at all anymore with ripping of your paint by making tape...guarentee 👍
9 November 2019, 08:50
Stephan Ryll
All good for now 🙂 first camo parts are on
10 November 2019, 13:39
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Hans 🙂 - to answer your question - I'm doing the masking on my own
10 November 2019, 14:59
Stephan Ryll
No Hans I use a transparent self adhesive foil 🙂
I apply the foil to the surface and mark the camouflage areas with a pen - remove the foil again, cut the required areas an stick the foil again to the surface
It's time consuming but gives a good result 🙂
10 November 2019, 16:11
Patrick Hagelstein
Dang! Looking good Stephan! 👍
10 November 2019, 16:12
Stephan Ryll

11 November 2019, 04:07
Daniel
Nice masking job Stephan! Maybe just the photo but both sand colors appear very grayish?
11 November 2019, 12:06
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Clifford and Daniel
@ Daniel - on my IPad it's ok - may I will take some new pictures later 🤔
11 November 2019, 15:55
Donald Dickson II
Yeah, totally looks gray to me too.
11 November 2019, 17:42

Tried again to get a better picture from the camo - but there is maybe a problem with the camera hope to get that fixed soon 🤔
11 November 2019, 19:27
Donald Dickson II

11 November 2019, 22:20

11 November 2019, 23:14
Stephan Ryll
Thank you mates 🙂
I think „someone" used my camera for some outdoor pictures and did not switch back the ISO to 800 😄
Oh I hate that „someone"😉

The masking massacre is now nearly done 🙂 hope to get some paint on tomorrow
12 November 2019, 19:30
Stephan Ryll
Your right Hans, the ISO setting is linked to the auto white balance in my setup - just checked this - all good now 🙂
12 November 2019, 19:55
Stephan Ryll
The masking massacre is done - no „wormholes" found - next step will be the painting 🙂

18 November 2019, 10:05
Harry Eder
Turned out great! What masking tape do you use?
18 November 2019, 12:12
Stephan Ryll
Thank you mates for your kind comments 🙂
The white colour took longer as expected🤔
So it needs to dry till it can be masked

@Harry - this is TopMask Film I bought in 2015 here in Germany
It's a transparent film that is not too sticky
It's a role 30x300 cm - so it lasts for a long time 🙂
Hope that helps 🙂
18 November 2019, 17:21
Harry Eder
Thx Stephan! So I have to look for it 😉
18 November 2019, 17:38

1 December 2019, 08:18
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Jos 🙂 I'm also happy when this big xxx is done 🤔
Still a lot of work to do
Decals are on - it took me quite a while to figure out the right ones from the big decal sheet
The instructions are quite challenging - in some cases I had to ask my magic glass ball 😄
1 December 2019, 10:51
Laurent VILLANUEVA HELLER ForEver

Camo edges sharp as razorblades... 👍 I'm glad to catch-up and follow this on the finish line... You really got the paint job spot on, both in terms of the color tones and the shapes, very nice indeed Stephan!
10 December 2019, 19:23
Stephan Ryll

12 December 2019, 04:43
Bryn Crandell
Quite amazing if I say so. The camo came out fantastic. Did you freehand mask it or use a mask set?
12 December 2019, 12:46
Stephan Ryll
Thank you mates for your encouraging comments 🙂 glad that you like the „putty queen"
@Bryn
I use a transparent self adhesive foil 🙂
I apply the foil to the surface and mark the camouflage areas with a pen - remove the foil again, cut the required areas an stick the foil again to the surface
It's time consuming but gives a good result 🙂

Picture 69 shows the mask 🙂
12 December 2019, 15:58
Slavo Hazucha
I always dread the hour when masking tape hits the painted model - or better put the moment when it is about to depart again... The fact that all your paint is on the plane in such a tricky pattern testifies that you indeed are a man who can chose his own foil!😉 👍 I really like this project!
12 December 2019, 16:17
Stephan Ryll
Me to Slavo - it's the moment when I stop breathing - but demasking clear parts always stops my heartbeat😉
Glad that you like this project 🙂
12 December 2019, 18:32
Stephan Ryll
Thank you James 🙂 glad that you like the build
13 December 2019, 16:26

13 December 2019, 19:23

I CALL IT DONE!
14 December 2019, 18:24
Slavo Hazucha
Grand show Stephan - it totally looks like the Hornet on the title picture, wow! - if you'd put a light on to cast the shadow from the LERX, they would be indistinguishable😉 Top job! 👍
14 December 2019, 19:05

The end of a journey! Beautiful Stephan! 👍

15 December 2019, 09:14
Stephan Ryll
Thank you Roland,Slavo, Patrick, Donald, Nathan, James, Thomas and Jos for your motivating comments during that stormy journey.

My conclusion for this kit
Check the instructions, some parts are not in there or have wrong numbers
Check your reference pictures
Check every colour in combination with the decals (which are very good)
Dryfit as much as you can
Buy some putty and sanding paper

A god thing is ... you don't need nose weight
15 December 2019, 09:16
Laurent VILLANUEVA HELLER ForEver
Nice
15 December 2019, 10:10
Slavo Hazucha
Thx for the heads-up - will re-stock my putty & sandpaper reserves! I guess the BigED PE's were well matched, I am up for some Aires fitting havoc on mine...
