@Slavo - The idea was to impress superstitious chinese soldiers with faces of Tigers or Dragons which are very powerful creatures in chinese mythology. I have no idea if it really worked...

Some years ago I've read a documentation about the paintings and they worked not. I remember the army give up the painting then
