Yamaha XV1600 RoadStar
Everything ready to go.
Dad, you've put 'em in the wrong order, let me show you...!
Tsss, tsss... Oscar isn't impressed...
Hmm, I think I must help daddy so everything will be ok...
Much better from this view...
Yes, the struggle is indeed real building together with a kitty.
The progress so far...
A successful blood offering to the modelling Gods. Worked with the blade close to the thumb as usual and got a major nerve twitch in my right shoulder so I made a perfect Seppuku "L" cut in my left thumb. Nothing major, just a little blood...
The first batch of chromed parts after a ten minute swim in chlorine.
I've drilled the vent holes in the brake discs. I even managed to drill a finger through n' through in the proccess. It sound worse than it was. My grip was just a tad to high so I made a seven or so mm hole in my left index finger a bit under the skin.
My ever present supervisor Oscar the curious shadow...
Urban the Impaler strikes again. Engine, mudguards, tank, brake discs etcetera ready for primer work.
The rest of the chromed parts after a ten minute swim in chlorine.
Ran out of clips on sticks so I had to make more.
Oscar is overseeing my progress.
Now I'm finally ready to put primer on the parts.
Finaly some airbrush action. Everything primed with AK Interactive AK757 Primer and Microfiller. Airbrush used, Badger Renegade Krome with 0.33 mm set-up.
Oh so shiny! Have I mentioned before that I love MRP laquers? Well, I do just that. MRP-172 Super Gloss Black in place on the bits that require a gloss shine. Airbrush used, PS-770 GSI Creos Mr. Airbrush Custom 0.18mm.
AK Xtreme Chrome in place
AK Xtreme Polished Aluminium
AK Xtreme Titanium
AK Xtreme Dark Aluminium
AK Xtreme Stainless Steel
AK Xtreme Matt Aluminum
Tamiya Semi Gloss Black
The first layer with Alclad Candy Red, so far so good...
Disaster after the second layer with the candy paint
Out with the sanding sticks
Yet another round of primer
I ran out of AK Xtreme Chrome so I went with GSI Creos Mr Metal Color Chrome Silver
Sealed the chrome paint this time with Alclad's Aqua Gloss
The first layer of candy...
Finally some building among all the painting problems
The other side
Durability problem with the chrome and polished aluminium paints...
A different angle
After several layers of candy paint I got problems with pooling paint and dust particles. Tried to sand it down and fix it but was struck by a disaster when I glued the top part on the tank and got glue where it shouldn't be and other mishaps...
Tammy clear paints for the tail light and turn lights
Resprayed the unmounted chrome parts with Alclad's chrome that apparently is more durable than Xtreme Metal chrome
Third times a charm, primer again...
The chrome part that sadly is glued to the tank now masked with Parafilm
Alclad Bright Silver Candy Base in place
The engine touched up with Alclad paints
The starboard side of the engine after I've touched up the chrome with alclad. Had to touch up the frame as well due to overspray. Everything free handed...
The underside.
Different angle
Different angle
The rear wheel and the drivetrain.
The huge disc brake on the right side of the rear wheel.
The candy in place, change of colour as the red one was sold out when I had to refill my paint inventory. Ruby Red this time but to my eye it looks more like a nice red wine.
And the motorcycle is finished. Better photos in a day or two.

Album info
The Struggle is REAL! Not only is it my first ever civilian build but an motorbike as well, I who don't even like motorbikes. No, my four month old kitten Oscar insists on helping and check so I do everything right. I'm going to paint the motorbike with Alclad II Candy Red, shudder! I'm a military builder that is used to weathering my builds quite a lot so just the thought of doing something shiny is scary enough... This build will be a present to a mate of mine that turns 53 on October 28th. She's a biker and would love to have this on on her shelf.
