The nose decal was a tough fit. Lots of Micro Sol, along with some small cuts in the decal, did get a decent result.

This is the kind of fix that folks here have inspired....seeing what others can do lets a guy see what is possible. The inspiration is continuous....even for a little fix like this...never would have tried this in the past.

The Wiley Post version is back underway. Progress was good on the landing gear setup but the panel line work on the flaps is not great.

This is a sad modeling story....because there was a small flaw in the overcoat…that became a large flaw...the entire fuselage was stripped and will be redone...hopefully, the hard work on the cockpit will be saved and the harvested canopy from the old build can be added after the fact.

First coat of the lighter blue....that decal is the model for the shape...two more coats to go

The big wing unveil after 4 attempts....You know, it actually worked, sort of, this time.

I took advice from Aaron Skinner and did not "seal" the edge with clear primer for the session.

Later came touch up, and the paint sealed with Microscale Gloss. Decals, detail painting and panel lines are next.

The State of play of the Winnie Mae....a modeling rhyme....

....there are so many ways this dude isn't up to snuff..

..the cockpit...the paint that "matched" when tested, but not when sprayed!...by golly, i am going to get decent looking wheel spats...but i have to learn to sand curves....

...folks....there are more "lessons" in this little model....

...it is time to do the best i can and move on...but, i AM going to fill in those spats and try to make better versions....honestly, this has been a fun project....but it is time to move on...

The decalling looks good! Saw the real one at the Smithsonian a few years ago. The display is kinda crowded, the plane is raised up and visible but not easily photographed...

After failing with decals...the big wing blue section gets masked and paint...we will see....

This little guy is now on its third attempt to paint a blue top wing section, after two failed decal efforts....

I've never had anywhere near this much trouble getting a good mask....the first attempt was a complete failure so i worked extra hard, cutting fresh mask tape edges and being sure to burnish the edges as best i could, with a clear primer coat to "seal" the edge, all with a lowered PSI from the compressor...and it was only a bit better.

Maybe its the blue paint....just too much needed for one coat over the insignia white coat and it was bleeding out...?

One more time...this time I will only put a light coat of paint on, let it dry thoroughly and put another coat on later...as many light coats (which hopefully won't bleed out) as it takes.

It is not obsession...it is a hobby.

So that explains deciding a perfectly decent wing blue section was too dark and not the right color, even though it took three tries to get there....so, a decision has been made to make a custom color for the wing....

...5 parts Mission Models MMP-001 White and just 2 parts MMP-048 Blue make a pretty good match for the FS25184 color that no one seems to make.

....all the lessons learned from finally getting a good mask, etc. will be used on this, now fourth, attempt to paint the wing section...repeat after me...it is just a hobby....
