1972 Sikorsky CH-53 GS - wip #3 - the painting
Preparing for the painting includes also the anti-slip areas on the helicopter. I marked everything, put on some black color and sprinkled flour on it
The result. Better than the decals I think.
Now it is prepared for it's base color.
Painted the original color on the helicopter.
In the forground my first CH-53 (84+73). The color matches not to the 85+12 because its green olive (olive). The 85+12 (background) is painted in yellow olive (gelbolive)
Tried to build some blades for the main turbines
Main rotor blades are painted too.
The rear rotor is painted in it's colors. Notice the rods in the middle of the blades. They are custom made too.
Masking for the strips to the food steps. They are wrong on the decals sheet: grey. Those stripes are only grey, if the helicopter is painted in a three color camouflage. *No* CH-53 Gs is painted in three color camouflage. They all are painted like mine: yellow olive. So the strips have to be white.
Befor the decals willbe on the model, it has to undergo a shiny clear cote 🙂
The decals for the main rotor blades
Now it is "my" helicopter. The decals are custom made
Starting with the decals
Those white stripes are peinted too. They are on the blades for maintenence reason: they show where the balance point is and where to locate the support frame in case of removing the blades.
After the decals are on it, I gave 85-12 another layer of clear cote
The main rotor blades become there finish painting - matt
After everything was dry, the final clear cote (satin matt) is done
Some weathering on the hull
Painting the filters
Added some antennas and indicators
More antennas and painting the plack strip underneath the cockpit front windows
During the completition, Eurocopter visited us and added some lugs to the 85+12. Well. So I had to add tem too to be correct. In the picture some of the custom made antennas - seen in the next two pictures.
And another antennas added
An overview - still without the cockpit windows 😉
Light check
Added the wiring for the additional air cleaners
The frames for the Cockpit windows
Steps and windwos installed
Building the whipers better than the kit - they were molded amateurish to the glass part.
Looks much better
First look 😉
It's done
Painting some ground equipment. One "boxy thing" will have a 9V block to support power without using a regular power outlet and transformer.
