Hello there,
I am just starting the F-86D from Revell/Monogram, with some goodies. I have chosen this specific aircraft (F-86D-45 04-8197 from 103rd Hikotai, at the end of her career in November 1968).
Said to be a nice kit, and so far fittings are good. So the fun. However, because the assembly guide is quite patchy and unclear (and not necessarily trustable), I have few questions regarding the colors:
- cockpit / seat / inner canopy colors ?
- gear bay colors: NMF/aluminum or interior green ? (The inner doors seems to be NMF)
- the radome: any guess on the brown-ish color seen on the pic below (haven't seen that on other aircraft, but most of the reference pics of japanese planes I have found are in BW) ? BTW, why brown and not the usual black ?
Thanks in advance !

Hi Rv, a very interesting subject. Front row seat please. Look at this user: he has a lot of pictures. Maybe what you need is here. 🙂. commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Hunini/画像保管庫

Haha, thinning plastic is one of my favorite upgrades to a kit. I also like thinning the edges at the back of wings of aircraft (whenever that is more realistic). Some older airplanes have a thicker edge at the rear I think. There is this 'curse' of working with 1 mm thick plastic that shows up in all kinds of places, making edges and seamlines weird, unless smoothed over and edges thinned in places. 🙂
An effective way to take off plastic in a controlled way, is to use a sharp blade and scrape, still takes some time, but I like how the blade is flat and yields a flat surface. Sanding sponges also works, but tend to leave a subtle dent in the plastic if one isn't gentle enough.

That's some nice work so far. That armor on the fuselage came out great.
