Scammell Tank transporter and Matilda tank

Album image #1
Of course just when I made the radiator, Thunder models offered the (right) replacement for free.

Album image #2
Bit of extra detailing of the airfilter

Album image #3
yep 🙂

Album image #4
Those Archer transfers come in handy. Also made a water level indicator from scratch

Album image #5
A better step up

Album image #6
With Milliput made some texture on the cushions. I find the wood grain greatly exaggerated.

Album image #7
Album image #8
Some extra details on the brakes

Album image #9
Album image #10
Those indespensable Masterclub bolts for better definition

Album image #11
extra details on the firewall

Album image #12
The engine does not need much extra

Album image #13
But a little extra effort makes the difference

Album image #14
I didn't like the supplied curtains. Made some from a wine bottle capsule. Looks like we gonna have a puppet show 🙂

Album image #15
I find the supplied instrument panel to flat. Tried the Yahoo IP and found this also to flat and way to small. A little scratchbuilding created much more depth.

Album image #16
Those Macro pictures show every flaw. At a normal viewing distance it looks allright to me

Album image #17
After painting the engine I'm not completely satisfied, but it'l have to do 🙁

Album image #18
Album image #19
Put a little light on..........

Album image #20
Here you can show of a lot of interesting details. The fittings for the hose joints and the pressure lines are from Top-Studio. I detailed the (5th wheel?) with Master Club nuts and bolts.

Album image #21
I used 1:24 scale Top Studio hose joints. Neat stuff

Album image #22
Made a start with the trailer and some extra detailing on the brake system.

Album image #23
And again those Top Studio fittings come in handy.

Album image #24
Album image #25
Main brake line and Top Studio fittings.

Album image #26
The Thunder Model etchings are very thin and flimsy. It's a chore working with them.
I preferred to make new racks with Evergreen styreen. A bit sturdier and good definition.

Album image #27
Looks the part 🙂

Album image #28
Some extra details.

Album image #29
All it takes is some stock styreen for a pair of mudflaps, license plate and taillight.
I also ordered Set A153 (Tank transporter Strainer & Shackle set WW2/post war) from Accurate Armour.

Album image #30
🙂

Album image #31
Detailing the toolbox. For the rivets I used Archer transfers.

Album image #32

Album image #33
Album image #34

Album image #35
I'm satisfied 🙂

Album image #36
Again some steps further, but still a lot of small stuff to do

Album image #37
Hmmm.....I should have placed the wheels on their flat spots. The gate for the storage space is made from Evergreen Styreen.

Album image #38
Album image #39
Album image #40
Album image #41
I do like the instrument panel 🙂

Album image #42
I can't remember the brand of the fire extinguishers but like them very much.

Album image #43
Album image #44

Album image #45
Detailing the auxiliary tank.

Album image #46
Barely visible are the exhaust pipes going into the engine deck.

Album image #47
Also here replaced the countersunk screws. And yes, I spilled thin cement over the deck 🙁 . Luckily the damage is limited.

Album image #48
Fire extinguisher handles placed

Album image #49
As with many older Tamiya kits there are these ugly gaps. But nothing what a little styreen can't cover up.

Album image #50
The same here. You can spot the metal towing eyes under the auxiliary tank.

Album image #51
Again the Master Club nuts & bolts provide extra detail.

Album image #52

Album image #53
Extra details on the butt side 🙂

Album image #54
Eduard etchings placed

Album image #55
And more Eduard etchings.

Album image #56
Remarkable that the smoke grenade launchers are made from shortened Enfield rifles.

Album image #57
Belts from thin lead. The towing cables are home made from three strands of twisted copper wire.

Album image #58
And then I totally forgot to take pictures of the painting proces. I think it came out rather nice but a tat to dark. Well, it just has to be like this.
It was a lot of work but I managed to angle the front terrain wheels. And it needs a flat coat. But....where did I leave the tracks??

„Not completely satisfied with the engine……" I had to look twice to distinguish it from a real one ( pic 17). Outstanding !

Hanno, it's several years ago that I painted the engine en just yesterday I posted the pictures. With my knowledge of today (oil paint rendering), and the pictures from other builders, I would have taken more time and effort in painting the engine.
But thank you all for the compliments 🙂

Nice additions, Lex. I recently added a book I bought about the Scammell (I will be towing a Valentine I think), what do you use as reference?

Hi Steven,
I used mainly the Internet.
There are of course the walk-arounds and also the sites with restorations give a lot of information and details.
On Youtube you can take a look at the link below what tells you how the winch system works and give you even more details. There are 3 more in this serie about this subject.

Just my kind of superdetailling. Count me in. Can you disclose which colors you used for the Mickey Mouse camouflage?
15 November 2021, 17:17
Lex Jassies
Michael; for the black I used Tamiya XF-69 Nato Black.
The green is a mixture of 75% Tamiya XF-13 J.A.Green and 25% Tamiya XF-51 Khaki Drab.

Lex, I was planning to do the same with the oil filter, but I wanted to reduce the diameter because the kit part seems off with the pictures I compare with. Great work, I don't know if I can approach this level...

I like how this progresses. A late thanks by the way for your answer to my camoflague question. 😉

Michael, my pleasure.
Steven, looking at your albums you make great models. for me you are definitely able to make something beautiful out of it 🙂.
About the oil filter; As an example I used one of the photos from the link below. I personally think that the oil filter of the model has the right dimensions.
primeportal.net/truc..en/scammell_walk.htm
But there are different types of oil filter used.

Album info

The intention is to depict a scene somewhere in the East Midlands (have to decide a bit more precise where exactly) where a Scammell is salvage a Matilda tank with bad luck.
