Model representing Cromwell Mk.IV of the C Sqn., 5th Royal Tank Regiment, 22 Armoured Brigade, 7th Armoured Division, during training for the invasion in Shakers Wood, Brandon, Norfolk.
New Cromwell tanks issued to 5RTR before the invasion were not much liked by the crews. Being used to Shermans, they had many complaints: the driver's escape hatch was covered by the turret
when the gun was in certain positions, the armour around the turret was perpendicular,
thus considerably reducing the chances of AP shot glancing off, the armour was generally too thin, etc. However, they praised its speed and reliability.
