Neuspinne
![Album image #1 Album image #1](/albums/img/6/5/0/1160650-72957-73-720.jpg)
I got some inspiration when I heard there are spider excavators. This Neuspinne will be on a recon mission on Alps.

Checking the size and needed area. Parts are hold with blue tack.
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/6/5/1/1160651-72957-14-720.jpg)
Drilling holes for new axles. The kit could be built as it is, but there are 0.5mm steel rods in the kit in case open legs are preferred. I just also want that the joints are movable.
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/6/5/4/1160654-72957-67-720.jpg)
My attempt to organize and specify the legs.
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/6/5/5/1160655-72957-62-720.jpg)
First leg cut and sawn down.
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/6/5/6/1160656-72957-28-720.jpg)
0.5mm holes drilled into the parts.
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/6/5/7/1160657-72957-16-720.jpg)
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/6/5/8/1160658-72957-41-720.jpg)
Drilling is very challenging.
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/6/5/9/1160659-72957-77-720.jpg)
First leg completed.
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/6/6/0/1160660-72957-64-720.jpg)
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/6/6/1/1160661-72957-39-720.jpg)
My new saw is narrow enough for this.
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/6/6/2/1160662-72957-87-720.jpg)
Glued a strip of styrene on the main body to fix one detail.
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/6/6/3/1160663-72957-61-720.jpg)
Styrene cut and sanded off.
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/6/6/4/1160664-72957-54-720.jpg)
More legs coming up.
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/6/6/5/1160665-72957-30-720.jpg)
I printed the postures of the legs derived from my 3D-model made with SketchUp.
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/6/6/6/1160666-72957-68-720.jpg)
All joints locked with epoxy glue.

![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/6/6/9/1160669-72957-37-720.jpg)
Left arm gun ready for painting or I should consider adding more details.
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/0/4/2/1162042-72957-68-720.jpg)

![Album image #22 Album image #22](/albums/img/0/4/1/1162041-72957-69-720.jpg)
I wanted to add that little brass plate to highlight that hatch.
![Album image #23 Album image #23](/albums/img/0/4/0/1162040-72957-98-720.jpg)
First Mr.Surfacer 1000 and then Vallejo's black primer.
![Album image #24 Album image #24](/albums/img/1/4/9/1165149-72957-53-720.jpg)
The stand is coming up.
![Album image #25 Album image #25](/albums/img/1/4/8/1165148-72957-79-720.jpg)
I decided that my diorama needs an alpine ibex so I got a goat in 1/72 scale. The bigger horns are made of green stuff.
![Album image #26 Album image #26](/albums/img/1/4/7/1165147-72957-90-720.jpg)
I'm trying to make an improvised camo with brown and green triangles.
![Album image #27 Album image #27](/albums/img/1/5/0/1165150-72957-79-720.jpg)
Such bad luck. I cleaned the parts and the first primer was mr.surfacer, but still one mask tape teared paint.
![Album image #28 Album image #28](/albums/img/5/5/0/1166550-72957-11-720.jpg)
Two sheets of 6mm depron foam (used for rc planes) glued on the stand with PU-glue.
![Album image #29 Album image #29](/albums/img/5/7/0/1169570-72957-44-720.jpg)
Neuspinne's parts are painted and few parts got clear varnish and decals.
![Album image #30 Album image #30](/albums/img/5/6/9/1169569-72957-44-720.jpg)
I wanted to add that QR-code decal included in the kit, but it is quite big for this and a bit silly... It is a working code that reads "Neuspinne".
![Album image #31 Album image #31](/albums/img/5/7/1/1169571-72957-75-720.jpg)
I had to test my carving abilities to see if I could make a believable mountain cliff. The ibex got primed and some brown.
![Album image #32 Album image #32](/albums/img/6/6/7/1173667-72957-32-720.jpg)
I finally dared to start carving.
![Album image #33 Album image #33](/albums/img/6/6/8/1173668-72957-95-720.jpg)
Mountain cliff mostly carved. Some stone/sand paste added after this.
![Album image #34 Album image #34](/albums/img/6/6/9/1173669-72957-27-720.jpg)
Legs glued to the frame while positioned on the stand.

![Album image #37 Album image #37](/albums/img/4/5/7/1178457-72957-17-720.jpg)
The stand is almost finished. My first time adding any loose grass and bushes.
![Album image #38 Album image #38](/albums/img/4/5/5/1178455-72957-17-720.jpg)
I want to call ibex ready.
![Album image #39 Album image #39](/albums/img/4/5/6/1178456-72957-95-720.jpg)
Weathering still ongoing.
![Album image #40 Album image #40](/albums/img/4/5/8/1178458-72957-48-720.jpg)
![Album image #41 Album image #41](/albums/img/9/9/2/1180992-72957-17-720.jpg)
The weathering is done and so is the matt varnish applied too. Just final assembly and the model is soon ready. Maybe tomorrow.
![Album image #42 Album image #42](/albums/img/4/5/2/1181452-72957-65-720.jpg)
Neuspinne is now finished! Here a "mood picture".

I have no idea what this is, but your work is already fascinating. Watching. I am very curious.

Bad luck that the paint came off with the masking tape 🙁
Nice idea to add an animal 👍
I wonder how you'll compose the diorama.

Thanks, JD and WhiteGlint. I have an idea for the diorama, but I haven't dared yet to cut the foam on the stand to make it look like a mountain cliff.

Very sad with the peeling of the paint, I keep my fingers crossed that it will be good, the idea with the ibex and the base is an eye-catcher 👍

Neuspinne's parts are painted (mostly hopefully), but I can not proceed until I carve a mountain cliff on the stand.

Well done build so far!
Like the spider so much, a bit creepy in my opinion 😀

Mate... Creepy indeed! 😱 I'm not a creepy crawly fan. But this is AWESOME! Goal suitably achieved imo 👍 lovely work.

What color scheme do you have in mind for this stealth recon mech? Maybe it blends in with the terrain like a spider or a chameleon so it's hard to spot..

![](/profiles/img/72957-816-s.jpg)
@JD well actually it is already painted grayish green with few brown and green triangles and blue bands as markings. While choosing the camo I considered something similar that armored vehicles of Swiss Armed Forces uses, but they were not cool enough so I ended up with this. Currently it seems maybe too dark, but it could be lightened or I should paint the terrain as dark.

Thanks, mates and welcome aboard, Simontie! I was depended on Army Painter's "Battlefields Basing Set" so the grass is maybe too big for the scale.

Stunning result mate!
That's a really creative and dynamic presentation. 👍
What's with the QR-Code on its head? 😄

It should read NEUSPINNE無人強行偵察機. I just once read it, but my phone could not focus on so tiny code so I first took picture of it with my camera, zoomed in and then read it XD.

This is a really imaginative dio!
A presentation like you don't often see!
The vertical optic and a successful model make the whole thing special👍👍
You might notice: I love it😁
