The rubbing off of the oxidation near the door handles is perfect. Really nice faded paint effect.

Album info

I started this one immediately after finishing the Camper because I really wanted to have one of these little buses in the cabinet, next to my large scale Samba. I went for a quick build, glueing the side and rear doors shut and painting the rear door window as a panel. I wanted to have a go at faded paint and for a first attempt I'm quite happy with it. The base colour is Tamiya XF-23 Light Blue, over which I sprayed XF-2 White mixed with the Light Blue in a couple of shades. I like the effect, though the contrast is not very high because of the already light base colour. I think it's a good VW colour for this bus. I sprayed Vallejo Satin Varnish on top.

In a couple of places I rubbed the paint with low grit sanding paper to create the somewhat darker spots. And that's basically it. At first I wanted to add some rust and dirt and such but I rather like the way it is now and adding rust would have changed the overall look quite a bit. I'll do that on the next one I build, because for sure that's going to happen. This is a very enjoyable kit to build and I'm falling more in love with these buses each time.
