One more time....with the knowledge panel lines need to be rescribed, the decals will disintegrate and need coating, the photoetch hinges go on at the very end and, finally, the lines on the windows don't match the masks, so it is time to sand those off and polish the window clear....a first for me...

I will follow, of course (It is one of my 'wishlist' items...) And keep my fingers crossed 😉

I enjoyed making that one a lot. I did the film version with lots of tiny windows. I'll take a seat and watch.

Welcome all! This is a cool airplane designed in the 1930s in Russia with lots of windows to try to get the public to accept flying...

... or to grow exotic plants closer to the sun 😉 (perhaps it was another "ingenious" but forgotten agronomy idea of Trofim Lysenko 😄 )

Wouldn't have noticed the stryrene, did you not tell us.
The design of this aircraft really reminds me of a Zeppelin, somehow.

Weird plane, interesting build. Always nice when techniques and experiences are shared. I will have a seat for sure.

It is decision time for this model. Overcoating with a gloss coat now will seal the nice white paint primer. Then it is time for the distinctive red stripes on the fuselage, wings and tail. Should they be painted on because the kits decals are just plain bad?
Paint seems like a decent alternative until considering having to line up the many stripes with masking and making them all look correct...decals would be much easier...what now?
Some modelers here have used painted decal paper as an alternative. That seems like a good idea and would make stripes much easier to line up.
So, off we go into the world of painted decal paper.......but, first, nice smooth gloss overcoat on this very white dude.....time to be mellow and do several light coats!

What a journey and really enjoying your narrative too. 👍 One Q please? What ratio future:colour for your tinted windows?

it was just a few drops of blue Mission Models paint in a small container of Future to get a good tint for airbrushing...in fact, care had to be taken not to go too far with a tinting process even with a fairly dilute mix...testing is key....thank you for your comment!...

.....all decaled up....the little red extensions on the flaps were a concern but they laid down well....

masks came off and it did not go great, for sure.....some of this, looking back, may have had to do with the thicker white masks instead of the translucent versions...that could be overcoated slightly to see better...a note for the "next" time....see photos

thanks all for the comments and likes!
The kit is actually decent and could be done much better than this inexpert white paint airbrusher can do.
In fact, if you figure, like the decals needing work with overcoating or replaced with printed versions....this kit is good for testing many skills....like scribing lines, filling gaps, tinting and masking windows...should i try a third time?
Not for a while! photos to come....this was fun

Lovely photos. Great work. There is something quite restful and serene here that I can't put my finger on. Like it's massively space-age but really nostalgic at the same time. 👍
