Comments
Mathias, your thorough historical research enabled you to build this realistic first class diorama. Congrats!
Thank you very much for your comment Neuling. It is always a good feeling when the invisible work is also noticed. A part that takes even more time than building the piece. The level is set for future diorama's 😅.
The cold wind greets the un-welcome visitors..... Superb work, in all respects.
Dramatic scene!
Use a black and white filter over it and it could be a war-feudalgraphy...
Thank you Simon and Bruce for your lovely comments. Really appreciate it.
Great work. I really like the dusty lancers on the corner, and great work also on the building paint job & weathering. Very well done. 👍 Congratulations
Thank you Rui for your kind words. Glad you like it. It was a really stressful proces to do the dusty corner without ruining everything 😅
Incredible work, fantastic builds and figure painting. You really catched the moment, atmosphere and dynamic of that scene! Also great choice of subject, congrats!
What a magnificent diorama you created! A real eyecatcher. There is action everywhere and it tells a complete story. Briljant.
I added some more B&W shots, specially for you @ David Taylor 😉
You have outdone yourself Mathias absolutely superb. That guy bled buckets - the bw shots are so realistic just like your research images.
I did An update of the album with different photo preferences and setup
Album info
I can proudly present my album of the finished diorama "First Casualties". This is my first diorama of a series in which I would like to build on a chronological base a specific moment during WWII. Starting with the invasion of Poland I found some photo's of a streetfight in Ochota, which was well documented. It tells the story of the 4th panzer-division entering Warsaw and was confronted with intense resistance in the outskits of Ochota. It got my attention because of the contradiction of belief that the german army had an easy way of getting their goals in Poland. In reading and searching of more pictures of this battle, I was convinced to make a diorama about this battle.

Some explanation of the scene:
You see two panzer II's, a BMW sidecar and an infantrysquad.
What happens is this:
While the squad passes through the streets they get hit by fire from a sidestreet. They hit MG 1 in the leg and the buildingcorner. This causes an eye-injury to MG 2. MG 3 drags MG1 to a safer place where two sanitäter come by motercycle to patch him up. The gruppenführer went into cover behind the concrete pillar and shouts orders to the other men. Shütse 1 and 2 fall in to engage targets while a panzer II provides covering fire. Shütse 3 checks on MG 2's eye-injury. Schütse 4 and 5 are taking orders of the Stellvertretender-gruppenführer.
An interesting video of how a german squad worked can you find here: Youtube Video
I hope you like this and you will take the time to comment. I enjoyed this project a lot.
Cheers
