Started this awhile ago but had issues with the yellow so had to strip it and make another attempt. Better luck this time and I'm actually making some progress now.

Gotta hand it to you mate, you do a great job on these. I always struggle with white and yellow, for some reason. I'd say that they're my most hated colours! I'll hang around and see how this turns out 😉

Welcome Bozzer, yellow is the worst color. For some reason I keep returning to yellow race cars. 🤷🏻♂️😂 Only painting it twice is an improvement over my last yellow car.

Mate, if you saw my past record, you'd be surprised if there's any yellow paint left! I try, but I'm definitely cursed

I don't know why yellow is such a pain but I certainly agree with you. I Still have a couple more yellow race cars to build too. 🤦🏻♂️

I've said this so many times before, I'm starting to get a reputation, but if you want to paint something yellow... paint it pink first. 🙂
Here's the proof - The Seven Crystal Balls (Short Sunderland) | Album by strobez (1:72)
Now, usually a single coat of pink gives you a single coat of yellow, but it does make the yellow a bit less "lemony" and a bit richer, more orangey in tone. If you want it more lemon-coloured, you can try either a) lightening the pink with some white first, or b) give it a second coat of yellow. The more coats you give it, the less the pink comes through, but it will save you from having to do 25 coats of yellow.

Greg I've been meaning to try the pink method. I've seen it a couple times on here, possibly thanks to you. Next yellow race car will get a pink primer coat.

I love these old Indy car kits. Always build up reasonably well and are good fun. Added Ignition wires to the vaunted Chevy Indy V8. Only extra detail I'm going to be going with here. They're pretty prominent on top of the cam covers. And I'll add Goodyear eagle decals instead of the raised amt lettering. So, engine in, suspension assembled. Just some detail paint to touch up and decals to apply then I can get a coat of clear on it and call it complete.

Decals laid down this morning and I'll hit it with some clear coat later today or tomorrow and it'll be wrapped up. Still have to sand tires, cut the raised lettering off and decal those too but the finish line is nearing.

Got the Rick Mears build all finished up. I really love these old Indycar kits. I have several more in stash. They go together really well and look great on the shelf. Used Indycals decals on this one. The kit ones weren't in terrible shape but fresh ones are always nice. The only other addition was some plug wires and boots.

Great build mate! I've actually just been looking at these, on a well known auction site. Not my usual thing, but you've opened my eyes, with this build.

Thank you Bozzer!! I hope you try one! They can be found pretty reasonably on that auction site. I'm from Indiana and have attended many Indianapolis 500s and other Indycar races. So perhaps I have a bit of a soft spot but these old AMT kits are really quite decent for their time. There's not much to them but they do the part and look how they should. The AMT ones are a bit more accurate than the Monogram ones but I've built and enjoyed both. I Have a few more AMT Lolas and Marches I plan to build at some point
