Seenotrettungskreuzer Theodor Heuss von Artmaster in 1:87 (SAR Boat)
Hi mates. I'd like to give you a glimpse on a kit I recently purchased. I wanted to build a decent german SAR boat in scale 1:72, but options are pretty scarce. On the Spielwarenmesse in Nürnberg (toy fare) I came across this Search and Rescue Boat produced by Artmaster in scale 1:87 (HO) and liked a lot what I saw.
Now, this is what you get: all parts cast in grey resin, a big photoetched fret and some decals for the Theodor Heuss, the type boat of this new class of 23,5 m SAR boats. Non for the sister ships (Ruhr Stahl, H. H. Meier or Hamburg) are included.
The instructions are printed on A4 paper and based on photos.
At first glance, placement of the parts should not pose problems.
Some detail shots. I have yet to find casting flaws. 🙂
It is a waterline model. No lower hull is included.
Detail seems nice and crisp.
I am not sure yet whether I will replace some of the PE parts with wire. We will see.
Seperately available are those SAR figures in corresponding attire. I doubted that they fit to the boats as their gear looks a bit outdated, but then had to read that the boats were introduced in the late 50ies and decommissioned in the 80ies. So their still modern appearance defies their true age.

Thanks Hajo. Although my finger itch it will probably a while before I start that one.

That will be a nice project. Very pity that there is no 1:72 upscale available.
This reminds me of the old nice RC model from Graupner, where the small boat had its own controls and could be released and picked up. 🙂

Yeah, this Graupner boat - or better to say: pictures of it - will have to serve me when I carve the front part of the hull. The idea is to place the boat in heavy sea and in that scenario parts of the bow will be seen.

I am very fond of the Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbrüchiger (German SAR Society, literally: German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked Persons) which provides SAR services in the Baltic and North Sea since the end of the 19th century and does so soley funded with donations. So wanting to build a german SAR ship lay at hand.
Now I found a decent one and want to share my first impressions with you.
