4A-Inspiration: Home Territory (1970s-80s)
This collection features aircraft that inspired me to join the active duty United States Air Force.
O'NEILL MILITARY OPERATIONS AREA (MOA)
I grew up in rural Nebraska, near the center of the O'Neill MOA, which was frequently used by Air National Guard pilots from nearby bases. Because the area had minimal VFR civilian aircraft traffic and few tall structures, pilots were allowed to conduct training as low as 500 feet above ground level. This often resulted in inspiring and low-level airshows that sparked my interest in aviation.
