I was looking at this kit, but feared the relatively high costs for "just" the deck added to the J-15. Question, can one build the J-15 as a SU-33, or are the planes different in appearance? I see really no difference.

@Harry It's a really nice kit, great fit overall but lacks detail in the wheel wells. Biggest problem is having to drop the flaps for its take-off position on the carrier deck base – and the instructions to do so appear on the last page of the instructions, after the kit's supposedly painted and decalled!
@Melf I'm no expert but there are definitely some differences. I believe the tail-cone is a different shape, for example.
