I've wanted to build a diorama in tribute to my late grandfather for some time now. He was a veteran of the US Army Air Force and was stationed at Alexai Point AAF during oft-forgotten Aleutian Campaign of WWII. I have many fond memories of him telling stories about his time there. One that has always stuck out to me was it getting so cold the engine coolant in the P-38's would freeze solid and the engines would seize, or during the salmon run they fill the back of a Dodge WC with all the fish they caught. The P-38 will be in the colors of either the 18th or 54th FS based at Alexai Point. I might make this a dual diorama and also do a P-39 of the 42nd FS based at nearby Adak AAF (The P-39 is my favorite USAAF aircraft). While not 100% historically accurate, it will not look out of place. If I have the space, I may also do a B-25 of 77 BS, 28 CG.
