Kinetic E-2C Hawkeye
Commission build
- Scale:
- 1:48
- Status:
- Completed
- Started:
- October 1, 2016
- Completed:
- October 21, 2017
- Time spent:
- For.Ev.Er.
A friend commissioned this piece when a former coworker remarked about the 2016 incident wherein an E-2C Hawkeye almost went overboard during an arresting gear failure on board the Eisenhower. The gentleman had flown with the same squadron (VAW-123 "Screwtops") off USS America. I found the correct decals for that particular deployment and just need to finish grinding out the build. The kit is just really sloppy - lots of bad fit and sloppy casting. The clear parts had a flaw that I will show in the picture series. As this is my first project on this site please have patience while I learn how to use it all.

Thanks, Andrew. I have to tell you that this kit was a real learning experience. It had a lot of bad joins and required A LOT of filling and sanding. I joke that there was more superglue and dental resin in it than plastic, by the end. I would recommend a nice aftermarket wing fold kit - it should save you the hassle of the wing join issues. Don't waste money on the metal landing gear. The engine nacelles were a dodgy fit so be patient and test fit before committing to glue. I used A LOT of weight in the nose to keep it on the deck. The cockpit is sparse but you can barely see it so no big deal. Be sure to check your references early and often to save yourself extra headaches. I don't know if Kinetic has updated the plastic for later versions but I hope so - this is such a cool plane, IMO. Good luck!
