This is a shelf queen I started ages ago. Maybe it was a bit too ambitious for a project intended to be a return to the hobby.
In Wolfgang Schneider's book Tiger im Kampf I (Tigers in Combat, volume 1), I discovered a fascinating picture of a Tiger of s.Pz.Abt. 510, having broken through a bridge. Not many details are visible, apart from it being a Tiger I of the last production in I think July 1944, because the pilzen are visible on the turret roof. The rear mudguards are missing, probably removed by the crew or torn off in the accident.
I bought quite a lot of after-market parts as a resin gun barrel with protective cover, a protective cover for the hull machine gun, PE engine grilles and PE side mudguards. Friul tracks and metal idler wheels of the correct size for a late, actually last production Tiger I.
The arrangement of spare track-links was typical for the Abteilung 510: 3 groups of 3 links, held by a U-profile welded between hull extensions for the towing eyes. The additional track links on the fighting compartment front were also quite common, so I put them on.
The Zimmerit was done with Vallejo putty and the PE tools from Tamiya. It's quite shallow, but I wanted it that way.
