2K12 Kub
NATO: SA-6 Gainful / Straight Flush
Operator: Iraqi Army
Location: Iraqi Southern No-Fly Zone
Timeframe: 1996

Personal interest:
The 2K12 sytem consists of a tracked 1S91 SURN radar vehicle on a GM-568 chassis and up to 4 tracked mobile launchers using the GM-578 chassis. Though highly mobile, it could engage targets at medium ranges (up to 15 miles) and high altitudes (up to 48,000 feet). As such, the Kub systems were the Iraqi Army's most effective system for "SAM trap" tactics. They were the most frequently targeted Iraqi SAM during Operation Southern Watch.
