I painted Mr. COLOR SUPER clear several times and sanding the surface to make it smooth after each coat. Finally, polished it with compound and applied a gloss coating.

SkyhikerI think this is my first time with an ICM mold. The kit has a lot of flash and is very subtle in its markings. This creates a bit of a challenge cleaning things up because I have to stop and figure out what to take away and what to keep. But I think when everything is cleaned up it should be pretty straightforward.

SkyhikerThere was one piece that was too big to fit. The instructions said that it was the backing for the control panel for the navigator. I started filing it down but then realized that Revell screwed up the instructions and it was actually the pilot's headboard. Now I have to repair the headboard.

SkyhikerWell I blamed Revell for getting the instructions wrong but when I checked the ICM instructions they had the same mistake. The piece clearly belongs behind the pilot if you look at the kit. So either the engineers who designed the kit got it wrong or the graphics department got something wrong. Either way I went with the kit and not the instructions.

SkyhikerThe more I work with this model the more I am truly amazed at how finely detailed ICM was able to make the mold. It's incredible. I hope I can keep any of those details without the paint just filling it all in.

SkyhikerYeah, there was a lot of flash on the kit. It took me a day to get all the parts cleaned up but in the end the kit is actually not too bad.

Always pays to give paint good drying time before more work, l like 48hrs on main airframe, probably why l tend to have couple of builds on the go ..... something to do between drying periods.
Looking good , l always hand paint my wheels, lve done 67 in 2yrs 🫣

SkyhikerI got the base layer of RLM71 down. I'm not happy with the windows but I couldn't sand them down flat without damaging a lot of details. I'll have to see how it looks when the paint is dry.

Michael KohlThe wing shape actually gave inspiration for the Spitfire. Rolls Royce - if I recall that right - acquired a He-70 for test purposes. Here the designer of the Spitfire saw the plane.

Mr DGood job on the camo, every plane probably has variations in camo so box art is good, it does work well as a camouflage that pattern, breaks up the profile well.

SkyhikerYes, at 1:72 scale it is less than a centimeter tall and the propellers are about 2cm wide in total.

SkyhikerI had a real scare when I was priming the model today and it flew out of my tweezers. I couldn't find it anywhere and it took a half an hour before I saw it stuck to my sock! Lucky nothing got broken.

SkyhikerHi bughunter, yes there seems to be enough photos around but the drone went through several redesigns before it went to Mars. For example the foil was gold for a while. The rotor blades' nubs were both pointing up at one point. Little things like the feet changed and the size of the battery and solar panel. I always have to go back and check the Mars mission photos to make sure what I am doing is correct.

SkyhikerThanks gorby. This is by far the smallest model I have ever made. I'm pretty happy with the results considering it's a scratch build and I don't have any special tools to do micro surgery.

Danny RayCan anyone help me? I'm looking to paint my Panzer II IN DAK colours from around November 1942 and I'm thinking I need RAL 8020 and RAL 7027. I have both made by Ammo Mig. The 7027 looks vaguely passable but the 8020 which is supposed to be a shade of brown is almost bright yellow. How can they pass that off as RAL 8020?

SkyhikerThanks Nicolas, the canopy will be a challenge. I sanded out the blemishes on the kit part but there are stress fractures and a crack going through it. I'll have to see if I can vacuform it but there is a ball turret behind it that would be a different thickness and I doubt I could vacuform a ball turret.

SkyhikerAfter putting the ball turret together I realized that it would be very risky and way too much work to try and vacuform it. So it looks like I will have to use the damaged canopy because I don't want to mix and match glazing thickness.

SkyhikerI only paid 5 euros for it so I guess I can't complain when the canopy is a mess. I bought someone's entire stash and it was one of the kits in there. Hopefully after it's painted it won't be too bad.

GoldmanAs far as I know the first digit in the FS numbers is the level of sheen: 1=Gloss, 2=Satin, 3=Matt. They hue should remain the same.
