That's a fantastic build! What a striking piece you've created. Do you just keep a paper log of the time spent or do you have some more high tech time keeping methods. 200 hours seems pretty quick for something this complicated. Congratulations!
31 March, 10:16

Thanks Paul ! I usually put in two hours a day at the bench, give or take. This build was started in January and finished in March with no other projects going at the same time. I'm retired now after a 35 year career with IBM so I have the time but find I get fatigued at the two hour mark. This was the first sailing ship I completed since the early 1970's. I plan on building more of them !

Following with great pleasure. From where do You get the ideas or plans for all this changes, corrections and improvements you make (mostly with sheet) at your models?
31 March, 08:28

Great and inspirational work as always Ronan. Watching with great interest as I have one in my stash. Will definitely use your build log as instruction for my future build.

Many thanks for your comments and interest for this build ,
@Bernd : i don't have plans, i just look at detail pix of each aircraft , part by part. When i was in the air force, i have shot every aircraft i could with my camera, so i have a little stock of pix 😉

It's been busy around here so sorry for the lack of updates but I really haven't done much in the last 2 months. I'm hoping to get back into it this weekend but I'm also learning 3D printing. My grown kids all chipped in and surprised the hell out of me getting me a Elegoo Saturn 3 Ultra printer for Christmas. I was floored and still have rug burn on my lower jaw. I then had to double my pleasure and get an Elegoo Neptune 3 Pro to make automotive parts and toys for my granddaughter 🙂 She loves watching it do its thing Hahaha! Anyway, this weekend Im hoping to finally start using the Saturn to create tank parts, especially track for this one. I just have to have track with pins like the real thing. Ok, Im off to fix a washing machine, then maybe a lil tank time. There will be pics soon.... I hope 😛 (edit becuz old man cant speel )
6 February, 10:45

Id love some honest feedback on my attempt at the canvas mantlet cover, it started out the base early IDF sand, then brushed with Ivory. Then numerous washes and drybrushings of many colors, finishing with a 3 colors mixed together of soft pastels lightly brushed on. I think I've got it close but the pics do appear a bit darker than it looks in person.
8 February, 18:13

I think it looks convincing. It looks "dusty" like pores in fabric have accumulated dirt in a way the surrounding metal would not. I think that's why it works well. If you could get it to be more flat that would help, but it might just be the lighting.
1 8 February, 18:36

Thanks Ben, right now the rest of the tank is still glossed for decals and washes, so a few light coats of matte will be coming soon.
1 9 February, 14:14

I hope no one minds me sharing a couple non tank pics just to show what I've been up to for a month. I got carried away with my resin 3D printer. lol

This will be build straight from the box, for an old school Tamiya Group build over on twenot forums.
I will share my ventures here too 😉
9 March, 14:14

More building done tonight, had a nice evening with some friends coming over, chatting, drinking and building 🙂
1 15 March, 22:37

More work done.
It amazes me how much detail there is in this kit. Also how everything fits just great. Tamiya has a reputation, which is well deserved 🫡
16 March, 11:03

I've built a couple of Tamiya Landys and found the first one the suspension was lacking so I Cannibilised the Italeri steering and suspension.Fits great.
16 March, 15:21

I started to paint this one.
It is coated in Tamiya X18, this will be over sprayed with old rose as a basecoat, before the final layer of beige pink is layed on.
I've managed to knock off one of the smoke dischargers, and I still haven't found it yet 🙈

Thanks for watching. I'm not entirely sure what will happen myself, but it will be some kind of diorama with a RC-Airfield and a lake. The not sure part mostly relates to how deep the lake will be and whether I need an additional frame or can I get by with my usual picture frame.
7 November 2023, 19:42

The planes are ready to paint, the lake is redy for the water, about half of the figures are cleand up, but that is a good job for afrer work when I usually get just about 15-30 minutes for modelling per day.
26 November 2023, 19:55

A short update:
The diorama is currently at a standstill because I made a mistake when weighing the resin. The resin is still sticky, but is currently on the radiator to dry (not to cure). I hope that when the resin is halfway solid I can fix the problem with another layer.
20 January 2024, 10:47

I mean the project stash alone looks promising. I have to follow this. ...can't resist...
20 January 2024, 11:04

Due to the problems with the resin not hardening, I decided to start the base plate all over again. I bought a new picture frame today and have already glued the plywood panel in place. Of course I will try to salvage as many parts as possible from the first attempt, e.g. the bridge and the reed plants from Eduard.
30 January 2024, 20:32

Cool project! Good luck with the second attempt with the water.
11 February 2024, 17:55

Respekt!!! 👍 Viel zu klein für mich … glaub ich bleib bei 1/72 und größer 🤣
11 February 2024, 18:37

Thank you both very much. @Atomicdelirium: I Hope to get so far next weekend. Before that, a few washes need to be applied to make the ground more interesting and the aquatic plants need to be added. @Thomas: 1/72 ist mir eigentlich auch lieber, aber als ich die Figuren gesehen habe konnte ich nicht wiederstehen.
11 February 2024, 19:04

Regarding the Walrus' windows - decal stripes perhaps? Black or silver?
18 February 2024, 19:42

Hi Łukasz, thanks for the Idea. I will use an Instruction, scale it down and cut the decals from an "Balkenkreuz" decal from the sparesbox.
Today I tried again with the water. My diorama seems to be tight this time, although the water level has also dropped this time. Hopefully everything will be hard too. But I won't be able to say for a few days. There won't be any pictures until then, unfortunately the diorama can't be moved at the moment.
18 February 2024, 20:01

Thanks Jennifer. This Time it worked better. There is still some internal leakage, as the water level droped about 3 mm over night, but there is no resin on the outside. The resin-residue in the mixing container is after 26 h harder than the first try after 2 month. But with about 5 days cureing time I'm not totally sure yet.
19 February 2024, 18:59

I made good progress this weekend, but I discovered, that "planting" the reeds is suprisingly time consuming with about half of it done in nearly 5 hours.
25 February 2024, 18:32

Since I didn't get to build last weekend due to a hand injury and my visit to the exhibition, I made some progress on the diorama this weekend. Almost 3 hours of work on grass and reeds, as well as the first flowers and preparations for the first bushes / trees and the place for the couple in the reeds have taken place.
10 March 2024, 20:07

Get well soon. Looks good so far. I think the lake turned out great with the stuff floating in it.
10 March 2024, 20:36

Hi Shar, thank you. The lake isn't done. The floating stuff is there just by acident. I'm going to clean is, add some drifting wood in the reeds and a second layer of resin. Than the 2 boats and all the floating gras can be added and fixed with some water effects. I do it that way for two reasons:
1: I got the leak where resin went missing under the frame and the water level is not high enogh.
2: I hope the resin in the first layer has seald the gaps in the reeds, so the second layer will not "climb" due to the capillary effect.
11 March 2024, 06:06

This weekend I didn't do much, but still a little bit of progress.
17 March 2024, 19:26

Thanks for your interest and the likes.
Last week I worked at the figures, partly repainting with acrylics, and starting modifying everything with oils. Work still in progress. there are 2 figures I don't realy like so far, perhaps that will change after a matt coat.
28 March 2024, 20:31

Most of the parts ar together now. Having trouble with my Printer means the decals for the Windows of the plane are still missing. I also realized today that I forgot to build toolboxes, so I made up for that today.
Thanks for your likes and your interest.
5 May 2024, 17:24

I'm nearli done with this project. Oll that's missing now is the second Plane witch I managed to demage today. I got the spare perts, bit the paint isn't dry yet. I didn't manage tho get the cockpitwindows from Decals to my liking, so I used paint today. the result is not perfekt but I can life with it.
Thanks everyone for the likes.
16 June 2024, 18:56

I declare this one finished. Thanks for the likes and the nice coments.

22 June 2024, 19:08

Lovely work, utterly enjoyable to watch this progress until the grand finale - congrats! 👍 👍
22 June 2024, 21:33

Your dio is not only filled with life it is filled with several different stories. So wonderful! So much love for detail! I enjoyed the whole ride from the beginning. As I finally saw the last plane, I thought it would have been a funny twist if it would have been a camera drone over the reed. 😄
Great work, keep it going! 👍
23 June 2024, 10:58

Thanks you for your kind words. I realy like the Idea with the camera drone. Perhaps I use is with one of my future projects.

SAAB Viggen - "Thor's Hammers" - Special Hobby - Quadruple Build
1:72
A week later, four Swedish thunderbolts getting ready for the next steps!
101 15 January, 18:11

Me too. Already learned to better open up the RAT turbine at my Viggen. A step I lazily omitted.
2 16 January, 08:33

Main assermbly done on all four models, but now I have a few days to spend sanding and filling unwanted seams and crude areas. A bit tedious, but that's what you get when you choose to build four nearly identical models at the same time.
17 January, 14:23

Oh my... Good luck, Thomas! 🙂
I own two of them and was thinking of a double build but rejected the idea. Thanks for the encouragement!
1 17 January, 18:26

Wow! That's a quick build! 😳 I can only dream to build ONE kit that fast, let alone four at once!
1 17 January, 19:29

Mr D, no, they are pretty much the same. Most of the parts for all versions are provided in every kit. But there are some subtle differences that need attention, like the extension of the fuselage for the fighter version.
1 17 January, 22:05

Patrick, haha, I am a pretty fast builder, but I am extremely slow when it comes to painting. That's where my projects usually come to a crawl.
3 17 January, 22:07

watching with interest - I love SAAB aircraft anyhow, but 4 of them in one project --great!!
1 18 January, 10:31

This is more interesting than I thought it would be. The subtle difference between them are pretty cool.
2 20 January, 10:53

With only a few minutes of modeling here and there this week, it's quite a slow progress, but I am still inching closer to the finished assembly.
30 January, 20:16

Primer coat applied, a few filling errors need to be fixed. Time is unfortunately very difficult to find because of work, so the project moves very slowly for a while.
12 February, 08:46

Undersides sprayed blue-gray with Mr Paint. Now let's wait a day for the paint to dry and then it's time to start working on the splinter camo. With my current speed, I expect to be finished by midsummer.
14 February, 14:15

Oh yes, once you get used to MRP, you'll never want another paint brand anymore! I love their colors, pigmentation and general ease of use. And, as a bonus, their sheen is perfect for adding decals directly on top.
2 14 February, 15:36

I am trying to find a way to avoid tiny gaps between the splinter camo color zones. I think I have figured it out - before spraying a color zone, also remove the masks for all adjacent surfaces not yet painted. Thereby a slight spray overlap is created, so even if the mask is then replaced with a tiny bit of offset, it should not be visible. Special Hobby writes something like that in the mask description, but it's written in a very obscure way.
17 February, 12:11

Looks great just give the corporal in charge of painting a reprimand on his record and send the plane to the flight line......do you know how much it cost to paint aircraft, lol.
1 17 February, 13:55

macro is a bitch for this kind of details... if you place the model in the display cabinet, can you see that microline with wrong color? i think you can not 😉
1 17 February, 14:01

I have now started to add the masks to the models. It's quite a tricky task because I need to be extremely precise with the application - even the tiniest errors will be magnified as more mask segments are added, until things no longer add up. So it's a matter of constantly realigning the segments, which makes it all rather time consuming. BTW, I noticed that the pattern has a few minor errors, but I definitely won't lose any sleep over it.
1 19 February, 20:26

Thanks for your explain, Thomas. I thinked to would be more easy to apply 👍
1 19 February, 20:33

this camo is one of the most complicated to achieve and the fact that you are doing it 4 models at once... my deepest respect!
2 19 February, 21:20

Cuajete, Spanjaard and Łukasz, thank you for your interest! I am certainly not doing any cliffhanging on purpose - I am actually this glacially slow in reality. I also try to avoid aggravating the wifey by disappearing in my modeling man-cave for hours.
2 19 February, 21:45

Good and fully understood strategy 😄
As our common colleague (the one, you share initials with 😛) used to say: "Happy wife? Happy life!"
1 19 February, 22:05

Watching with interest. You will master the splinter camo for sure 👍
1 20 February, 17:10

I am still struggling with the masks, trying to making sure that they are applied exactly identical on all three models, which slows down the process a bit. Not that anybody except me would notice.
3 21 February, 10:59

Nice progress, I'm looking forward to the splinter camouflage. On my AJ-37 I used vinyl masks from DM Models, it looks like the masks you are using are a bit easier to handle.
1 22 February, 12:12

I have always had the conspirational theory that the Danish air force had a secret department dedicated to making life miserable for modellers, with their odd fonts, colours and aircraft modifications. The splinter camouflage is clear evidence of a similar department in the Swedish air force.
4 22 February, 12:19

Daniel, thank you! I am right now hoping that my end result will be at least in the general vicinity of your beautiful Viggen in flight!
22 February, 22:31

Phew, the second color is finally on. Now it's time to cover also the dark green areas and proceed with the black.
16 March, 20:06

Was anxious to see how you handle the masking but see that you struggle with the three tone camo too. Cross my fingers for a satisfactory end result.
1 17 March, 08:57

Michael, it is really not that difficult, only extremely time-consuming and require a very good eye-sight (or magnifying glasses). Too bad that the masks only partially reflect the actual camo pattern, I was hoping that they would be near perfect.
17 March, 09:52

I was wrecking my brain for a simple elegant technique to apply 3-tone camos without the need for re-covering extensively. So - yes the concept is easy, but the work is plenty. 😉. Keep it up. Looking good.
1 17 March, 10:52

Actually, the best method is to have two mask sets. I find that it is very difficult to do it all with just one mask set, as the masks will be slightly stretched and distorted when removed and reapplied and will no longer fit perfectly.
1. Spray the model light green.
2. Place all the masks from the first mask set.
3. Remove all masks segments except the light green ones and throw them away.
4. Spray the model dark green.
5. Add the dark green masks from the second mask set.
6. Spray the model black.
7. Add the black masks from the second mask set.
8. Spray the remaining exposed areas tan.
Also, when spraying a color, do not mask areas that you will be painting with a different color later, or you will end up with tiny strips of areas where the previous color shines through.
3 17 March, 11:41

Maybe to add that such a camo be best postshaded or oil rendered as the various colors have different amounts of paint layers and so preshading gives an inconsistent result.
2 17 March, 14:12

Great job with the painting masks, Thomas!
Thank you for the explain and the steps for apply 👍
1 17 March, 19:01

Thanks for the detailed explanation Thomas. Is there a particular reason for the order of the colors? I would probably have worked from light to dark.
1 17 March, 19:44

Admirable stamina, looking forward to the inevitably great result 👍 I have Fujimi 1/72 Boeing Vertol/Hkp 4 in my stash and Swedish decals for it… even the rotor blades have splinter camouflage.. 😳🙄
1 17 March, 20:20

Thank you all for your interest and encouragement! Nicolas, the tan areas are relatively few and with difficult shapes that are squeezed in between the other colors, so I figured that they would be easiest to leave for last. And for the three other colors, I indeed went from lightest to darkest as you suggested. Kenneth, yes, I would love to do the Hkp 4, it looks awesome in the splinter paintwork! I am however not sure if the Fujimi is available any more.
17 March, 20:39

Łukasz, thank you! Kenneth actually provided me with a link to a German web shop (Modellbau Huber) where the Fujimi was still available, so I placed an order for it. I also ordered the Swedish decal set, so I might as well check if I have some MRP splinter camo paint left. And Valium for the nerves.
2 18 March, 08:44

Wow, Thomas... It will be great to see that Fujimi with splinter camo in your hands 👍. I wanted to do the same too, but unfortunately I got another version instead.
1 18 March, 19:08

Lukasz, I initially bought the 1/72 Hobby Boss CH-46 by mistake and it's useless for a Swedish Hkp 4. You basically need to make completely new rear sponsons yourself, and their shape is relatively complex.
2 18 March, 21:32

OMG. A lot of work in this camo scheme - I sure at the very end all the efforts definitively will pay off. I'm really curios for next pictures....
1 22 March, 12:16

@pic92: ok?! That looks freakin perfect! I cross my fingers for a similar result on all surfaces on all planes.
1 24 March, 20:43

Those colors look awesome already! Very tight demarcations as well! 👌🏼
1 25 March, 18:31

Great! Fantastic result.
The great (and hard) masking effort is paying off, Thomas 👍
1 25 March, 18:44

A little late, but watching with interest - especially if you go insane over FOUR viggen camo jobs!
1 27 March, 00:02

I take my hat off! I just would not have the patience to do every step 4 times - especially the masking (ok, 3 times here…). Great job on the masking Thomas!

@Micheal Kohl - I used Tamiya spray paint TS-43 Racing Green for the 1/48 build.
1 February, 22:27

Did you choose it after research, as an (educated) guess or because it looks good - which it does?
1 2 February, 13:57

@Michael Kohl - Good question! Researching the green colour for the DH88 took some time and effort.
Reviewing some kit's manuals from different manufacturers the following came up:
• Mikromir: BS381C:225, Light Brunswick Green,
• Airfix: Humbrol Hu3 Brunswick green
• Clear prop: British Racing Green (no code ref mentioned)
• KP: Humbrol Hu3 Brunswick Green, stated as British Racing Green
• S.B.S model: Brunswick green (no code mentioned ref)
Conclusion - BS381C:225, Light Brunswick Green is the colour to go with if you want to be right on spot.
British Racing Green may be a little bit too dark, but it looks very good!😎

@Cuajete - Dry fit is quite good regarding wings and airframe, some filler will be needed. The engine nacelles was molded in one piece and the fitting to the wing was perfect. Saved a lot of work.
The cabin is very detailed. A lot of small PE stuff that the rug monster craving for…
1 2 February, 20:00

Thanks J35J for your answer. The new ClearProp-kit for the green version recommends Mr. Hobby Color H-383. Just to confuse even more. 😉. But actually you already summed it up in a pretty clear way.
You chose wood for the interior color. This is in line with the recommendation of the red ClearProp machine and the replica, which was left wooden on the inside. Judging from the bw-pictures available to me I interpreted the pretty dark appearance of the interior as black and colored the interior of my model accordingly.

What I missed is the sunshade these machines had. Maybe you want to fashion one for yours.

1 3 February, 19:59

Thanks Michael for your input. I also went with black interior building the green version in 1/48
This time I will throw in some artistic license and go with wood interior.
The sun shades was new to me. That really need to be considered as I will go with open canopy on this build.
3 February, 20:26

Great work so far 👍
The kit seems to provide more details compared to the MikroMir in 1:48?
1 17 February, 19:54

Thanks bughunter! The kit is excellent with great detail level and fitting.
Resin moulding is top quality. White metal parts for the landing gear have minimum flesh.
Big difference compared the MikroMir 1/48. Would be nice if SBS models also went for a 1/48 version.
17 February, 20:24

All what I have seen from S.B🤔. was that nice.
Another hope is Clear Prop, but until now they provide in 1:48 only a new decal sheet for the MikroMir kit.
1 17 February, 20:33

Thank Cuajete!
Tried AK extreme metal paints for the first time. Wanted an worn alu dope effect and after the first layer it came out too shiny. So went with the matte alu and some flat varnish. Finalized with some light weathering.
1 19 March, 19:58

Can anyone share a fast, and easy way to apply a bare metal finish on airplanes ? Over the years I think I have tried everything with decent results but nothing like I see on posts or in magazines. I really would like to stick with acrylics since they are less toxic, especially with aluminum colors etc..Would appreciate any advice. Thanks !
15 May 2024, 15:31

Your question basically boils down to which are the best paints - I have no idea which ones you have tried. I suspect most of the amazing bare metal we see on here aren't acrylic paints, Alcad II produces some great finishes but I hate using it due to the smell. Sticking with acrylic, I've seen some excellent builds painted with Vallejo acrylic Metal Color – although not used it myself. Have a look at this:
davecoleysemporium.c..Colours-How-to-.html
Incidentally, many people spray metal finishes over a black base coat as they think it intensifies the metal sheen.
17 May 2024, 08:01

Acrylics itself has nothing to do with the solvent (and so with smell), also all the new solvent based paints like Mr. Paint, Tamiya Lacquer LQ series, Gunze Acrysion, AK Real colors and more are acrylics, but solvent based instead of water based. The handling is much more forgiving and results are so much better, so many paint manufacturers move in that direction or at least offer a paint series additionally - they cannot ignore this trend.
Because of the handling quality and the results I love Alclad metal paints, but also AK Extreme metal are not bad (also solvent based). I started airbrushing at all with Alclad paints and was surprised how easy it was to get great results (my 1:16 aircraft engine project).
The smell is not a problem if you were a mask with filters and use an airbrush cabinet with exhaust. At least a mask is anyway recommended also with water based acrylics. The fact that they do not smell does not mean that the pigments in the lungs are healthy. And there are always pigments in the air because they are atomized so finely by the airbrush.
17 May 2024, 09:24

Thank you. My latest build and album is a 1:72 P-51 done with Vallejo aluminum over a semi gloss black base. I'm pleased with the results and ease of cleanup. I over sprayed it with gloss for ease of handling and to level out the decals.
17 May 2024, 11:32

So there is an alternative that you could give a try. Its what I use on mine and I've had pretty decent results.
Its Wax Gilt, amazon.co.uk/Treasur..ng-Wax/dp/B00HVUTMH4
Its expensive, but goes so far its not that bad.

Thanx Mark. Happy to hear. It was no homerun and sat again and again for month until I gathered the motivation to overcome the hurdles I faced. But now I am happy to look at it.
15 October 2021, 12:24

I am deeply impressed with your perseverance...And the effect is stunning indeed!
1 15 October 2021, 13:12

Nicely done! It was a good decision to replace the closed cowling with the engine, luckily Karaya re-released the old ExtraTech sets.
One day I will solder this kit too as addition to the other stripdown kits of this series.
1 26 October 2021, 09:17

Danke Bughunter und Dominik.
I hope that Eduard will re-release those strip down kits with improved styrene or/and resin parts as they did with the Fokker Dr.I.
31 October 2021, 12:19

Could it be I saw this one in Lingen yesterday? It is a masterpiece of skill and concentration. You must be a Zen-master! 😉 👍 👍 👍
2 26 March 2023, 12:42

Hi Ralf, thanks for your nice comment. Indeed, this kit tested my skills, patience and perseverance as it is very fragile and some parts, like the leading edge slats, are quite tricky to assemble. But what you have seen in Lingen must have been another Zen-Master as I happen to work this weekend. 🙂
I case you like that Strip Down stuff, you are welcome to visit my Fokker Dr. I- build too. A kit which is much easier to handle.

Thanks Gorby.
I gotta take some decent pics of this model too. Somehow I always forget.
26 March 2023, 13:50

And thanks again for more likes. Am a little proud to have finished this one after the hard times it gave me. 🙂
11 April 2023, 07:02

Thanks a ton mates for the nice feedback. Makes me happy.
@Andrei: actually it is not that difficult as the layout of the kits is quite smart - most of the time. But I admit that some steps are a tad fumbly and tricky indeed.
1 27 March, 08:18

After seeing pic32: looks a bit crazy, because the legs are too long -> in flight position.
I know this only as I built the 1:48 Storch from Tamiya, see how it looks like on ground: Fieseler Fi 156 Storch - A-99 of Switzerland | Album by bughunter (1:48)
Tamiya offers a accessory kit: Fi156C Storch In-Flight Land..lay Set (Tamiya 12620, 1:48) which contains a stand and new parts for a in-flight extended landing gear, so yours looks more like this.
Perhaps an excuse could be that the aircraft is very light because it is only half built and has no fuel and no cargo, so the suspension lifts it up 🙂
1 27 March, 15:09

That was precisely my reasoning:😉
Otherwise I would have modified the hell out of this landing gear.

Welcome aboard Spanjaard.
I've decided I'm going to represent the plane putting out a wild fire. For that I will need to make the plane with the gear up and flaps down, wich the kit doesn't include an option for neither. I'm also going to make it with the water door open, so plenty of scratch builds for this project. It's going to be a long one again
5 February, 13:59

I like this machine. I've seen newer ones work. I'm joining the show.

5 February, 15:13

Welcome on board guys!!
That's an amazing photo Живко! Is it yours??
1 5 February, 20:19

Interior all done. Not as detailed as some of my other builds because I dont want to lose to much time in a an interior it's not going to be seen, much more when there's going to be a while diorama for the plane.
5 February, 21:07

Yes. It's mine. They were flying over us all day. The fire was 200-300 meters from the filming location, across a valley.

1 5 February, 21:15

Those are incredible photos! Love them. Did you get the chance to finish your model?
I created the water drop doors in blender, waiting to print them later today.
6 February, 12:30

Fully assembled and ready for masking and painting. I ended up doing the door with some plastic I had for other projects and some stretched sprue. I also made some structure inside the water tanks to make it more appealing
8 February, 19:32

Funny detail I learned while doing this project. This version of the plane, Wich is the first one ever made, mounted the same engine as the Corsair. Although not even half as detailed as the one that I made in the same scale last year
1 8 February, 19:37

Welp, my compressor broke mid painting the yellow. Time to order a new one 😞. I'll have to hold the build for the moment. If I get the time maybe I'll start with the diorama base.
1 9 February, 20:38

I bult this kit as a kid. I love the improvements you've added. Best of luck with the new compressor 😉 .
1 9 February, 21:28

Those hatches and the water tank structure look amazing 👍
I'm so sorry about the broken compressor 🙁
Does the landing gear have the option to leave it in the raised position or did you modify it in some way?
1 10 February, 20:38

Thank you guys!! I finally mage to fix the compressor so, one thing out of the way 😄😄.
And cuajete unfortunately no it doesn't. I had to look for pictures and videos of the landing gear up to modify it to look as close as possible. The wheels are going to end up a little higher on the bay because the suspension is modeled as it were compressed, if it were raised it would be a little longer but could find a way to make that looking good. But overall the final result I think is quite convincing.
2 11 February, 20:28

Yellow done. It the first and last time I paint something pure yellow. What a nightmare. Didn't take any picture because I was so stressed out 😅😅😅.
I'll update once I start putting the red and black colors on the plane
Also I don't know if it's something with this kit, or with every 215 kit from heller. But it had a lot of flush, pretty fragile parts, and a lot of warping in some large pieces. Also something I dislikeed a lot, none of the large surfaces as the wings, body, or elevators had any holes or fittings to join them together, so basically had to fiddle and pray the glue hardened with the pieces in the right place.
2 19 February, 20:10

Welcome guys! A little more work done, looking better now. Only black paint and decals left prior to weathering.

Thanks, Rui!
The tank didn't look abandoned so I opened the hatch and added details all around and inside the tank with mostly wire, metal sheets and a bit of plasticcard. I wasn't satisfied with the leaves, a lot of them were all over the place and I decided to redo them all.
Now I think everything is ready for painting.
6 February, 23:03

Great looking scenery so far 👍 Can´t wait to see what some paint will turn this into!
1 17 February, 15:32

Thanks, Paul and Tom!
I finished the airbrushing and some details. Weathering is up next.
17 February, 15:34

Finished for now! Sorry for being too lazy in making more wip photos. As always it took way longer and much more work than I expected.
21 February, 16:04

1/72 for ever.
Marvelous result at this scale.
Figures, tank and diorama, all are very convincing.
2 21 February, 17:02

Absolutely fabulous result in the best scale 👍 The textures and natural vegetation elements look splendid!
Now I´m somewhat drawn to build some sort of small vignette as well 🙂 No better motivation than some great inspiration I´d say
1 21 February, 18:39

Thanks Bozo and Tom 🙂
I highly recommend it. I love these small vignettes, you can fill them with details rather quick in 1/72.
21 February, 19:54

Wow 😮 I thought it was a best scale diorama. That really looks like a 1/35 dio 🤔
1 21 February, 20:34

fully agree with Rui, it could pass as 1/35, what a fantastic job . did you do the pslm try from scratch? it is really good
1 14 March, 21:50

@Spanjaard thanks! Yes, the trunk is wire around a cocktailstick and magic sculpt for texture. The leaves are also made with a wire in the middle, folded crep tape around it, cut the rough leave shape and lastly cut inside the individual "strands". Earlier wip photos might give you the idea.
14 March, 22:49

Wow! Looks just like a Francois Verlinden dio I would have seen in a magazine when I was a kid. But his were 1/35!
1 27 March, 21:40

@Spanjaard no problem and thx 🙂
@Simon Thanks. It means a lot to me to be compared to that! I was always amazed by the models in magazines when I was a kid and thought it would be impossible to do it 😉
@Finn thx! I was out of the hobby for a long time but painted wargaming figures occasionally.
1 28 March, 20:46

Had the chance to view this one "in the flesh" at Euro Model Expo 👍 Did take a whole bunch of pictures as reference for some future ideas of my own 🙂

I’m very happy about the gold medal.
And, almost more importantly, the falcon returned to its nest in one piece.

Hi Jorg, I'm just in the process of getting one of these!...look forward to your build!
22 October 2022, 11:28

1 January 2023, 11:20

Vielen Dank Männers. 😊
@ Michael
Ich mag unaufgeräumte Arbeitsplätze nicht. Da ist man nur am Suchen.
@Torsten

19 January 2023, 07:23

You're even building a Diorama for this? Dang. Might need a separate coffee table / display space for this. Looking forward, though, this thing looks great. Recently bought one as well for quite cheap and am looking forward to building it.
19 January 2023, 09:20

Danke Dash.
Da ich sonst Schiffe von über einem Meter Länge baue, kann der hier auf dem Nachttisch Platz nehmen. 🙂
Ja, freu dich drauf, macht echt Spaß den zu bauen.
19 January 2023, 09:51

Oh wow, that diorama idea.... will be... crazy. Really looking forward to that. 😮
2 February 2023, 17:50

This is getting more and more interesting! Looks like a real poorly maintained YT-1300.
2 February 2023, 21:48

Nice that you like it.
True, Han really could have put a little more money into maintaining the Falcon. 😄
3 February 2023, 03:46

Late to the party here, but following along with interest. Great work so far!
10 March 2023, 15:14

Spectacular 👍🏻
Might well be better than the actual film prop - wow - great job and an unending field of details to discover - love the weathering and blaster damage ! 👍🏻
18 March 2023, 14:30

Möge die Macht weiter mit dir sein, Jörg. Bisher sieht der Falke super aus 👍
18 March 2023, 18:15

Jörg, I'm honoured that you thought my little Falcon was a "Sehr schöne Falke", yours is absolut klasse 😊
5 April 2023, 17:40

7 April 2023, 08:04

Stunning. I love the gouge on the underside and the contrast as you flip from the weathered underside to the pristine topside between pic38-39 is a stunning contrast highlighting the work you have put in there. Amazing and inspiring stuff 👍
7 April 2023, 08:11

Q: Unsure if OP said anything about this, but are the LEDs linked in a serie, or are there multiple wires for all the LEDs?
11 April 2023, 10:16

Manny thanks..
Two LEDs each are soldered to a cable, since I only had two outputs, Treehugger.
11 April 2023, 15:12

I have yet to fiddle with LED's for my Enterprise NCC-1701 refit, but I did learn from some place that, if one place LEDs in a serie, then if one LED fail, they all fail. So probably best to have serveral wires around instead of one loop for such LED projects.
Another thing to worry about, is not having the LED die too soon, but I guess that might be just some calibration thing if building all this stuff from scratch.
Heh I invested in a digital power supply for LED projects some years back, but haven't gotten around to using it yet.
11 April 2023, 16:31

I'm not particularly worried about the LEDs.
They won't often be glowing in the finished model. Maybe at an exhibition or when there are visitors. A permanent light is therefore not provided. It's just a nice gimmick for me
12 April 2023, 08:02

Lieber Jörg
Wenn ich meinen Falcon gedrucktbhabe und zusammenbaue, müssen wir 2 uns mal kurz schliessen und reden wegen der Bemalung. Die ist ja wieder Mega von dir!!!
Gruss
Jörg
19 April 2023, 18:54

I meant whether the indicated tunnel is made of cardboard. You have made a design to that effect behind the hawk
20 April 2023, 02:57

Yes is part of the diorama framework and is then made of stable PVC
20 April 2023, 05:14

Very cool! The Falcon looks amazing. 👍
This is promises to be a great presentation too.
20 April 2023, 06:16

Jörg, every time I check on your project is it becoming more and more awesome. It just gets better and better every time.
19 May 2023, 17:04

Outstanding work. Simply the best Falcon I've seen. Movie quality work on display here.
26 May 2023, 10:06

Hoffe das Dio wird genaus super wie dein Falke, Jörg, möge die Macht mit dir sein...
7 July 2023, 17:06

Thank you Torsten.
It's easier for me now too.
At the beginning I really thought that I would never get the huge free space filled 😅
13 August 2023, 09:04

This will be so amazing when done. Quick question, are you planning some sort of protective case for it as well? Or will it sit in a display cabinet?
14 August 2023, 16:25

Thank you.
Like my ships, the model will go under a display case.
14 August 2023, 16:47

The base is getting better and better, it could have been used in the movies!
21 September 2023, 07:41

I am absolutely no fan of all this Star Wars, Treck, Shmeck, Heck stuff. But the way you build up layer upon layer of details into a very convincing composition is fun to watch. I am sure that the result will impress even me.
21 September 2023, 09:18

Thank you guys.
Yes Michael, you have to like that. When I was 10, my father took me to see this film and since then I've been into the stuff, along with warships.
And building this Diroama was simply a challenge for me that I enjoy.
21 September 2023, 12:05

are you planning to bring this beauty to Lingen next year? please say yes 🙂
1 November 2023, 09:13

Thank you.
I actually want to try that. I think the last time I was at the EME was in 2014.
If I get the model ready by then, you can count on me. 😉
1 November 2023, 09:51

I am planning to be there, so i hope to have the pleasure meeting you and seeing this amazing dio! 🙂
1 November 2023, 10:48

"Did you fly in that trough? You're braver than I thought!" - Princess Leia
15 November 2023, 10:08

This is astounding! If I recall correctly, kit-bashing is also what has been done on the actual Death Star model that was built for the movie in 1977.
22 November 2023, 13:44

Thank you.
Not only the star, but also the falcon were realized with this system.
The guys from ILM were the creators of all of today's aging and scratching methods that we as model makers know and appreciate.
23 November 2023, 08:58

A lot of grey but it is not boring at all to look at! 👀 👍
This looks great, and is full of details.
1 December 2023, 13:34

Leider kann ich nur ein Like geben, deine Arbeit hätte wahrlich so einige verdient! In jeder Star Wars Ausstellung oder Sammlung sicherlich das Highlight! Fantastisch und vielen Dank für die vielen Bilder!
3 December 2023, 13:22

Es wächst, immer No h ein Detail dazu. Super, bin schon gespannt wie es weitergehen 👀👍👍👍
31 December 2023, 10:46

An amazing build! The Death Star especially! Your dedication, patience, and talent has really been rewarded with this build! Well done!
30 January 2024, 11:44

WOW, this is amazing, absolutely stunning build, cant wait to see it all completed.
30 January 2024, 17:22

Awesome, indescribably fantastic. An appropriate base for the falcon. I'm looking forward to the illuminated finale. 👍👍👍👍👍
30 January 2024, 19:10

truly speechless, this build is one of the best I have seen here, the falcon is magnificent, and with the most incredible base you have made, well, it is just perfect!!
so, it is finished in time for Lingen 2024, right? if all goes to plan, I certainly will look for it there 🙂
4 February 2024, 16:53

Thank you very much people.
Yes Spanjaard, nothing should stand in the way of that. It would be really great if we met there and chatted a little.
5 February 2024, 15:09

ZORIONAK! (congratulations in basque language) GREAT JOB !!!
5 February 2024, 15:17

This is one of the best models I've ever seen! It could go head to head with the real models used during the filming of Star Wars.
7 February 2024, 03:46

Thank you for sharing your build process with us - your work is truly amazing and inspirational!
11 February 2024, 16:34

great to see this beauty again, safe trip to Lingen, great success ahead, I am sure. killing myself for not being able to be there to see it myself....
1 10 March, 09:02

All my best wishes to you for the competition ahead but, most important, to your wife.
1 10 March, 09:39

Great to see this masterpiece again! I wish you lots of fun and success in Lingen - I have to go there too, especially when I see how many of us will be there.
But above all: all the best to your wife!
1 10 March, 10:28

Thank you for being happy for my wife. That's so nice to hear. ❤️
And thank you all very much for keeping your fingers crossed. I'm very excited.
It's such a shame that we won't be able to meet there Spanjaard
1 10 March, 12:27

I will echo the above comments, best wishes, and good luck ( I don't think you will need it) with the competition, but most importantly, happy thoughts to your wife. I am glad to hear that she is doing well.
2 10 March, 17:22

This looks superb Jörg! A really fantastic job. You must be so pleased with this. Im not ready to start mine yet but I intend to build a bespoke coffee table to fit it in. It will be a diorama of the Mos Eisley space port and have a glass top. More importantly I'm glad to hear your wife is doing well. Life is precious.
2 11 March, 16:28

Thank you for your appreciation of my model and my wife's health. ❤️
This sounds like a fantastic project, and I hope to see your space port posted here as a build report someday.
1 12 March, 03:49

Congratualtions Jörg, fully deserved. That medal really should be much bigger for such an awesome model 🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇
1 31 March, 07:08

Thank you all three very much.. Haha Gareth, then I wouldn't even know where to place them on the model. 😁
1 31 March, 07:47

My warmest congratulations too - a very well-deserved award! 👍👍👍
2 31 March, 07:50

First. I'm glad the people around you are okay.
Second. Congratulations on the medal!
31 March, 10:52

Very kind of you two. I'm very happy about it.
And thank you so much for thinking of my family, Живко Джаков. 😊
