Thanks Frank. I think that I'll be masking up and spraying Molotow.

There's room enough in that cab for all of us. It's huge!

I've been trying to find a solution for the chrome? I'm thinking about BMF? Had a play with the loose gas tank and it doesn't look too bad. The grille is going to be my issue. I can't remove it, to spray it, so it's not a straightforward job.

If the grille is glued to the bonnet and the whole can be removed, you could spray it.
BMF would be hell for me with the curves.

This is a rebuild?🤔They offer different challenges for sure. I usually strip all my chrome and I think everyone knows that I'm a "dingy, dirty, and broke down" modeler, as well as morally ( I'm glad this is text based and not video or y'all would see my filthy rabbit dance). Not being able to separate the grill from the kit is another challenge to exponentially complicate the issue. I built a similar one when I was 15 ( built is a stretch) and don't remember the assembly sequence ( cut me a break! Moses had just arrived across the Red Sea). I wish you luck and any support I can offer. Kinda like a soup sandwich.🤣

a soup sandwich ..that you can eat with a fork..

Lol, I gotta love this crazy gang!
Basically, my problem is with plumbing. I'll add some pictures, to make it easier...

I see two options: Mask around the grille while it is place and airbrush it like that.
Or weather the crap out of the whole truck.

Mona
third option ..give in to the X factor, shelf the project ...but you know there is no "can't" .

@ Martin. That's kinda what I was thinking? Building some kind of shield/mask, and isolate the rest of the truck, so I can spray Molotow.
@ Mona. She's been shelved enough. That's why she's out on the bench. I've got another 2 of these to build, and both versions of the KW. I've got the flatbed trailer, to go with one, and I plan to scratchbuild a couple of low loader trailers. I've also got a nice VW to go on the back of one of them 😉

If you're going for Molotow, prepare well. Scratches in the plastic will show and it needs to cure forever

I did a test on it, mate. It can be clear coated with Alclad 2 Clear. Definitely, you need to give it a few days to cure properly, but it still holds its shine. However, I've noticed that over the years, it does dull. So, I'm going to attempt to polish the clear coat on my test pieces, in the hope that they shine again? If not, I might have to splash out on some of that expensive Revell Chrome, in the rattle can? However, it's not been around long enough, to be tested for longevity? I guess that the only way to find out, is to try, right?

I've also thought about colour coding the front grille.
Any thoughts and comments about this idea, are welcome?

Enhance that natural weathering you've got! What an opportunity!

It's tempting Nik, but it breaks my heart to see a 359 in such a poor condition 🙁

Cheers Munky mate 👍 I'll figure out a way, to get her back in the game. She's a big bugger, and I love the weight of the thing 😉

It's huge, I mean this is real huge!

My eventual plan is to lower my shelving, when the stash is manageable, and create a 1/16 convoy, on that wall. But yes István, they take up some space. Truck and trailer together, are nearly 5' long, I think?

Definitely huge! I have 2 of the 1/16 W900 kits. I have an idea for a truck/trailer but the overall size is holding me back. I just don't have anywhere to display it.

I love the shape of the KW Aerodyne. I think that's going to be my favourite build. My hopes are high for one of my Pete's, but like I said, I've gotta get through my 1/24-1/25 stash first. This year was supposed to be a year of building, but we're coming upto March, and there's nothing but work. I can't help tinkering with a few unfinished builds though, when time allows. Gonna get some more done on this, over this weekend.

I recently opened and was building this from a sealed box and had good tires as they are usually messed up in these 1/16 kits. It looks awesome and love the CAT motor...?, well done!

I'm hoping to get a bit of work done on this, tomorrow. Just before I take another road trip, down south. Fingers crossed, and filter changed.

Down south in the US, going through GA, lol. You have a great trip!

Album info

This is my "Big Pete"
I started it years ago and it's not had a good life.
Moisture has got to some of the chrome, most noticeable on the front grille. I'm slowly bringing her back to life. Unfortunately, I can't remember what red gloss I used, so I'm currently trying to find a match. Enjoy the pictures.
