Album info
the RAF Tornado Gr.1 ZA491, “Nikki” or “Snoopy Airways” which was operative in Op Granby in 1991 as part of the ZA491 20 Squadron at Tabuk Saudi Arabia. The RAF 20 squadron played a significant role during operation Desert Storm and Op Granby.
The model is built in a maintenance configuration, what means it shows as many aircraft panels and flight controls in open and or deployed position. Although this is operational wise not always logical it is an artistic choice of the builder. Thus, leading edge slats and trailing edge flaps are in down position, the wing spoilers are deployed even like the speed brakes and thrust reverser of the removed engine. The radome is hinged open to show the radar installation behind it. Furthermore, the model was reconfigured with a left hand engine replacement with open access panels which are not part of the Italeri kit, these are created and designed with reference to photos of actual situations.
