1/144 F-4K Phantom FG.1

main ingredients, an Academy 1/144 F-4E Phantom II, new RAF Roundels, Mark 1 Royal Navy titles and a radome from an old revell Tornado IDS.

scratchbuilt new nosewheel doors...

salvaged some new weapons from the sparesbox, 4 AIM-9 sidewinders and 4 Skyflash AAM's. 

droptanks put together, still needs sanding... 

canopy fitted, glued in place with UV resin glue, still need to sand down the rear a bit... 

started scratching together the RR Spey engine exhausts. starting with the burner cans 

removed the exces plasticard and sanded down, just need to find something to shape the internal nozzle out of. 

dressed up the nosewheel strut. 

Spey engines are mostly completed, just need to paint them, a dryfit test shows the fit is good. 

 

the projected color scheme im planning is that of XT863. 

carrier deck has recieved a basecoat of white paint. 

bottom of the Phantom is airbrushed (Revell 301 mixed with a bit of matt white)... 

also, the weapons and the tails have recieved a coat of white....

tails also painted in dark grey, the rest is now to be brushpainted. 

nose painted and the metallic colors were added to the tailsection. 

 

still needed to add some trim and a few touch ups to the underside 

Decals to be used. roundels are sourced from a Revell Hawker Hunter kit, white bort numbers from DACO 1/72 Mirage 5 and F-84F sheets. 

as the printer couldnt print white, the main decal for the tail is printed on transpartent decalpaper, while the white underside is outlined on white decalfilm.

the flightdeck display (from Heller 1/144 Sky Patrol set), being masked off as that of a British carrier deck.
for this, i used a shipbucket profile of HMS Ark Royal (R09) as a template, sized it up to scale and printed it out as a reference. 

 

masked off, first ive sprayed on the red parts, then masked these off again, and then came the grey paint.
the catapult rail was brushpainted after all the tape was removed. 

Finished, all in all, im happy with the results
