Rough surface by hand painting with Xracrylix. I need to sand down the ruggedness

More sanding made the surface smother on underside. Not perfect but enough. I learned to add thinner and retarder to manage Xtracrylix gray, then i brush the underside for second time.
Even topside are now painted with Olive drab, which is the substitute for RN slate gray and RAF dark green.

You're more skilled than me: I cheated by painting the canopy in black. I tried to mask it, but the result wasn't conclusive.
I'm a little puzzled with your paints choice. Is it for imitating the US equivalents of British paints?

i had to try with the impossible and paint canopy. Thats correct, US equivalent colors. Maybe i choose the colors too serious for this tiny project, but i had the colors in stash anyway.

Wildcat painted Olive drab called "slate gray" in Royal Navy service. I think i save some transparency to made it live appearance.
Next step should be "Extra dark sea gray" with using Model Master Gunship gray FS 36118.

Gray color applied. The colors don't contrasting each others. It looks like the colors are too close.

A Wildcat in 1:144? That has to be really small. What is the wingspan?
I know a lot of people use FS36118 for Extra Dark Sea Grey, but it is actually a good match for Dark Sea Grey. If you don't have any Extra Dark Sea Grey (I use Gunze's) you can try Engine Grey FS36081 (I think). the difference is slight, EDSG being more bluish and EG being more neutral.
