i plan on placing this on a base with some figures the kit is just about complete the only issue with the kit is the rear plate, my last dragon T-34 had the same issues and after talking to other mates here they seem to have the same issues its nothing heart stopping just needs attention when joining the upper and lower hull

Looking good... I've heared of this issue... if you use the old part (instead of P1), cut away the plastic "mesh" and apply the PE on that, the fit should be better... might just be a bit too late for you now...

Thank you for the input soon I will be placing this on a base, previously on my bases I used cellulay but I've noticed after a year the ground work begins to lift and separate from the wood so I'm going to try a concrete ready mix recommended by a friend it sets hard in 20 minutes seems a but unforgiving for someone not to experienced with dio work but I'm going to try it out this weekend if anyone can recommend their approach to diorama building It would be much appreciated

completed the T-34 and the figures got to put the finishing touches on the base and i can call this one done. does anyone mind sharing their technique for replicating grass, i really need to get better at my ground work

For grass
I use woodland scenics static grass
I put down a thick layer of glue dirt some water and some paint of the desired earth tone
then sprinkle the grass over the wet mix
then use a balloon and and make it full of static electricity and run it over the still wet areas with grass and do that until the grass stands straight up
then airbrush the grass a medium grass color then drybrush a lighter grass tone

That ist the simplest method for you guys over the big pond, but here in Germany/Europe you can get a a small plastic bottle wich does the "charging job" for you... Youtube Video

well i never did go get any balloons what i end up doing was blowing lightly on the grass and it worked okay i guess going to try the balloon method on my next base

Yeah, when I was fooling with dioramas I checked out what some of the railroad guys were doing for ground work. One of them had built this thing that looked like some sort of space gun for standing grass on end. Then there was a commercial version (I don't remember the exact cost, except that it was allot!!) I like both Hunter's balloons and Fabian's bottle method. Sure beats the space gun.

The "space gun" you guys are talking about is the NOCH Grass-Master 2.0 and it really doesn't cost $300. You can get one over here for around 110 Euros and in the States I have seen them going for $150 but at this time, they should be way cheaper (since the 110 euros includes taxes, which you guys don't have to pay). My guess is that you should be able to get one for under a $100.

While the Gras-Spritzdose (as shown in the movie) is very nice (I have one too), it only works well for short grass types (2.5mm). The Grass-Master 2.0 is also capable of handling longer grasses, like the 6mm and 12mm types.

I would say, if the Gras-Spritzdose does what you need, there is no need to get the Gras-Master. However, if you want to do larger areas and have way more control and capabilities, or just more control in general, you should really get the Gras-Master 2.0. It is a really great device!! Well worth the investment IMHO.

You can also make one yourself, there are numerous DIY movies on youtube about this thing. Look for: static grass applicator. But really, none of those DIY devices compare (in any way) to the 'real thing'. Also, Many of us spend hundreds, even thousands of dollars/euros on kits but when it comes to workplace or tools, they get all cheap?? I find that weird sometimes 😛 LOL

Well.. my problem with this is, I'd use it just a few times a year, so I saved about 107 Eur😉
I've just pulled out my little yellow bottle yesterday and I think I 've used it with 6mm grass ... I'll get my calipers out and show some pics later that day😉

Like I said, if the squeezebottle works for you, that's great! 🙂 I sometimes use it too for some things because it's obviously easier to handle compared to the fairly large Gras-Master.

But for me it doesn't cut it on most occassions though. I have 6mm + 12mm grasses in the mix which, especially in larger quantities, are impossible to do with the squeezebottle. Plus the amount of grass that fits into the Gras-Master is way larger too.

I don't see it as x amount of Euros saved, I see it as a good investment in a good and properly usable tool 🙂

It may simply come down to preference, I guess 👍

@ John you are absolutely correct we spend alot of money acquiring our kits but seldom spend that amount on our tools and stuff although when it was announced that the Polly Scale military line was being discontinued i went out and bought the complete Vallejo line the wife was a bit angry but it had to be done and i suppose that is the difference i only really get the tools i need but get the kits i want and it is strange 🙂
