Sorry folks..... Started this on Friday and just forgot to take progress pics from the start..... Kit goes together real nice..... Super fit and ZERO filling and only sanding was on the wing leading edges to blend the half's together. But it seems Meng just scaled down the detail from a 1/32 Dragon kit.... Exaggerated seam lines as well as a ton of rivets...... But.... I like rivets! LOL

Looks like a straight forward build! Is it really snap tite?

David Barclay
Yes it is Holger! But I used Tamiya Extra Thin just to make sure it all stays together...

I would have used some drops too. Just to ensure a proper fit. I just read Brett Greens review - seems to be a real good kit!

That is looking fantastic Davis! NMF is incredible. Chosen version looks like a P-51 flying here in Holland, the "Damn Yankee"

Funny you say that Erik, I just watched some 'damn yankee' clips on Youtube 🙂
But back to the project: amazing job so far Davis, great build of a Mustang in a not so often seen scheme 👍

How is the kit?

David Barclay
Thanks Michael, Erik, Kess and Clifford!

@ Clifford.... The kit is a real joy to build.... No headaches at all..... Only thing is.... There are a ton of rivets on the wings.... May put off the P-51 purists..... But it is a sweet little kit

Looks great! How are are achieving the different NMF surfaces? Are you using completely different lacquers or doing something else?

Thanks Nathan! Well I'm using Different Colors and manufacturers Metallic s.... Base color is Vallajo Metal Color Chrome over Mr Color C2 Gloss Black Base. Then a Clear coat of Alclad Aqua Gloss over the model. Then the panel variation began.... Area around Exhausts and Bottom wing Center Section is Vallejo Metal Color Steel. Gun Bay Panels, Horizontal Stab Leading Edges, Vertical Stab Center panel and Elevator Trim Tabs is Vallejo Metal Color Dark Aluminum. Upper/Lower Wings is AK Extreme Metal Duraluminum. Wing to Fuselage Fillet Area and Lower Engine Cowl is AK Extreme Metal Stainless Steel. Not yet pictured items are the Flaps and Ailerons.... They have been painted AK Extreme Metal Aluminum over AK Light Grey Microfiller Primer. HTH

Awesome! Thanks for the detailed response David! I suspected that's how you do it, but I wanted to be sure. I have a handful of NMH p-51s waiting to be buit but haven't started yet because I wasn't 100% sure on technique🙂 thanks again!

No Prob Nathan! Now you don't need to use different brands..... I was just playing around just to see if I could........

Definitely! Are you liking the Vallejo metal color? From photos I've seen they look fantastic. I love usIng acrylics because I live in a high rise and prolonged ventilation in the winter is a little too cold in Seattle🙂 a quick breeze to dissipate windex, etc is no big deal but enamels and lacquers are a different story!

that's one gorgeous mustang there Nathan, kudos.

Nathan..... I have mixed feeling on the Vallejo..... When they were new... They worked fantastic... But it seems after some time..... Some of the colors have gone bad. Specifically the Aluminum shade. It doesn't spray well at all... Clogs the airbrush and finish is not fine at all as when it was new.... The reason? Not sure.... This a color that I had used a lot of when I 1st got the range... So maybe some contamination??? HTH
