Airfix Hawker Sea Fury FB.11

Album image #1
The famous sea fury. When any kit, was a good kit. However by airfix standards this wasn't a bad little number with recessed panel lines.

Album image #2
Here she is with corrected air intakes in the wings. Not 100% accurate but better than the kit supplied version. Also, custom cut undercarriage below, a little more accurate than the 2mm thick doors.

Check out the surface of the plastic. All over this kit was this weird, concrete like texture. Lucky I love sanding...

Album image #4
With custom exhaust and undercarriage attached.

Album image #5
Looking good. So happy with the efforts so far.

Album image #6
First time creating some 100% custom undercarriage... Minus wheels which just needed some inner hubs. Wheels will be removed before a lick of paint goes on.

Album image #7
You can see the putty and the detail here. Don't drink and model... A modeller has too much time thinking about model philosophy.

Album image #8
Cut and measured and glued back to form. Needed a styrene cutter for this build.

Album image #9
After priming - Tamiya sky with diluted white mottled on top... First time trying the effect... Further coats lessened this significantly.

Album image #10
I hate two tone masking. There must be an easier way. Extra dark sea great mixed up and sprayed after this tedious process... did I mention I used Mr Hobby primer unsuccessfully?

Album image #11
Months and months down the track, carelessness, easy mistakes and cleanup there's a clear coat going on. Not too impressed with the colour variation on the wings but it wont matter too much because...

Album image #12
Decals hide the variation of colour on the wings pretty well. That's what you get when you mix your own. Stay tuned for the fun part! Weathering! She won't be a too beaten up bird but one you would find on a carrier after a few months.

Album image #13
All parts ready to come together for final weathering and assembly. About time..

I will be most interested in how you progress with this Max. The detail your adding is impressive. The copper on the undercarriage looks good. 🙂

Great hob on that PM Model kit. Yeah I know the box says it's an Airfix. I also built it but without all these additions. Following with interest!

Wow, didn't know Airfix boxed the Pioneer2 sprues. Great job on the exhausts!

Cheers for the latest kind words. This kit will be finished in a couple of days by arrestor hook or by crook.

Album info

This kit has been sitting in the stash for more than 10 years. Bought it at scale automobilia in Grafton NSW, I loved the shape and box art so much I wanted to put its flaps down. Well I didn't do that, but I found lots of problems with the kit when I began this little build while waiting for coats to dry between bigger projects, so in all its had more than its fair share of added parts, filled in holes and extra details. The album picks up in the late stage of the build.
