What-If: Airwolf joins the USCG HITRON squadron. Hey, the Bell 222 and MH-68 do look pretty similar.
![Album image #2 Album image #2](/albums/img/2/0/1/763201-36583-17-720.jpg)
Trying to make this….
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/2/0/0/763200-36583-91-720.jpg)
……look like this!
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/9/8/2/693982-36583-54-720.jpg)
Main pieces of the cockpit/interior. So much for Dom’s workstation in the back...
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/9/8/0/693980-36583-31-720.jpg)
Instrument panel. Wrong shape, wrong gauges and dials, doesn’t fit properly...
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/9/8/3/693983-36583-11-720.jpg)
Pilot and copilot figures. Pretty good from the front...
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/1/1/7/601117-36583-42-720.jpg)
...but not so great from the side...
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/9/8/5/693985-36583-93-720.jpg)
This one isn’t much better.
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/9/8/6/693986-36583-80-720.jpg)
Masked in preparation to paint the opaque yet metallic and glassy visor.
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/9/8/8/693988-36583-26-720.jpg)
More masking.
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/9/8/9/693989-36583-62-720.jpg)
Minor touch up still needed, but the visor actually came out pretty well.
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/9/9/0/693990-36583-82-720.jpg)
Another view.
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/6/7/8/761678-36583-32-720.jpg)
No gaps, but the left and right sides of the fuselage don't match up very well.
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/6/8/1/761681-36583-61-720.jpg)
Additional view of the poor fit. The top is the worst. At least other mismatched sections will be covered by other parts (missile launcher on the belly, nose cover, etc.)
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/6/8/4/761684-36583-74-720.jpg)
Looks like the main rotor will sit a bit tilted as well.
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/6/3/2/1055632-36583-74-720.jpg)
Finally primed and sanded for painting!
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/6/3/3/1055633-36583-38-720.jpg)

![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/6/3/4/1055634-36583-57-720.jpg)
Slight change in plans - feet first, then painting.
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/6/4/0/1055640-36583-13-720.jpg)
![Album image #22 Album image #22](/albums/img/7/8/2/1059782-36583-56-720.jpg)
White first. So far, so good.
![Album image #23 Album image #23](/albums/img/7/8/3/1059783-36583-41-720.jpg)
Now for the red. Masking fail…sigh…
![Album image #24 Album image #24](/albums/img/7/8/4/1059784-36583-97-720.jpg)
Looks like we’ll be respraying the white on both sides.
![Album image #25 Album image #25](/albums/img/0/4/7/1063047-36583-90-720.jpg)
Taking masking a bit more seriously this time.
![Album image #26 Album image #26](/albums/img/0/4/6/1063046-36583-88-720.jpg)
![Album image #27 Album image #27](/albums/img/7/6/3/1063763-36583-83-720.jpg)
Some touch up still needed but this round went way better…
![Album image #28 Album image #28](/albums/img/7/6/4/1063764-36583-21-720.jpg)
…except for me knocking off the tail rotor. Sigh. At least it’ll be easier to remove the Micro-Mask now…
![Album image #29 Album image #29](/albums/img/5/9/0/1068590-36583-86-720.jpg)
Belly finally painted black after another marathon masking session. More touching up needed but overall it worked pretty well. Finally feels like I’m making some real progress!
![Album image #30 Album image #30](/albums/img/5/8/8/1068588-36583-30-720.jpg)
Need to clean up in front of and inside the air intakes on both sides.
![Album image #31 Album image #31](/albums/img/5/9/2/1068592-36583-97-720.jpg)
Overall, looks pretty goodaside from the air intakes.
![Album image #32 Album image #32](/albums/img/5/8/9/1068589-36583-79-720.jpg)
The micro-mask spread farther than intended.
![Album image #33 Album image #33](/albums/img/5/9/1/1068591-36583-39-720.jpg)
Fun discovery - the doors and floor windows don’t line up the same way on both sides.

Quick question, is it possible to build a Bell-222 heli from the parts? There would have to be clear parts for the side windows for a regular Bell-222.
I used to have the Aoshima kit (same moulds), but I was 15 y.o at the time, a looong time ago, so I don't remember what the sprues looked like.

I think so, but I'm not sure about the wheel housings, since the Airwolf engine parts make the body wider. Double check the instructions posted for the kit - it shows the sprues. The kit does come with all the side windows for a regular Bell 222 as well as the regular passenger cabin in the back.
