Kit sprues overview.
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/7/4/2/927742-18633-90-720.jpg)
Considering all it's short falls and the horror stories I've read and heard, she goes together very very quickly!
This is about 2 hours work from box open to photo taken.

![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/3/8/7/928387-18633-39-720.jpg)
So that's the build done, next up, filter!
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/3/8/6/928386-18633-29-720.jpg)
And I found a fairing to cover the engines and decided to test for it all.
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/1/8/7/931187-18633-73-720.jpg)
Lots of filler.
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/1/8/8/931188-18633-33-720.jpg)
Yep, definitely needed filling!
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/1/8/9/931189-18633-83-720.jpg)
I used Flory Models Sanders and watched his tutorial videos whilst learning.
Its nowhere near Phil's results but it's already better than my best result!

All filler has been sanded.
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/1/7/0/933170-18633-19-720.jpg)
The nose section has now been filled.
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/6/3/5/939635-18633-43-720.jpg)
Engines are now all in place, heres a first and final shot showing them before the fairing goes on.
![Album image #12 Album image #12](/albums/img/6/3/4/939634-18633-51-720.jpg)
Fairing in place with the cargo bay doors glued together to form a lift off lid, I will be adding more support but it's good enough for now.
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/6/3/2/939632-18633-54-720.jpg)
Test fitting the cargo bay doors, works for me!
![Album image #14 Album image #14](/albums/img/6/3/3/939633-18633-17-720.jpg)
And the other side.
![Album image #15 Album image #15](/albums/img/1/6/7/945167-18633-46-720.jpg)
Prototype siblings.
![Album image #16 Album image #16](/albums/img/4/2/5/1021425-18633-82-720.jpg)
Yellowed decals just after being placed into the Bleaching Hanger.
![Album image #17 Album image #17](/albums/img/4/2/6/1021426-18633-75-720.jpg)
4 hours later there alot less yellow and good enough for me.
![Album image #18 Album image #18](/albums/img/2/7/2/1020272-18633-51-720.jpg)
This is the idea I have.
I'm going to use this support piece taken from a Monster Truck toy and install the spare set of mounting points from the Minicraft Shuttle.
This is my plan to make all 6 Shuttle mountable on both this base, the external fuel tanks and boosters and one day the 747.

All parts cut off ready for the trial.
![Album image #20 Album image #20](/albums/img/8/6/4/1020864-18633-46-720.jpg)
That seemed to go well.
![Album image #21 Album image #21](/albums/img/8/6/5/1020865-18633-25-720.jpg)
Enterprise seems to like her new stand!
As I have 6 Shuttles and 2 Buran's to do, this build/storage stand fits the bill just nicely!

She's now primed white and ready for paint....
![Album image #23 Album image #23](/albums/img/6/5/9/1021659-18633-82-720.jpg)
When priming the Shuttle I also primed and painted the wheels and cargo bay.
Please note, if you dont already know this, OV-101 Enterprise was one of the Prototype Orbiters and her cargo hold was never fitted out with the protection lining that the others were.
Hence the green ribbing.
Revell definitely based their 1/144 Shuttle on the Enterprise.

The real Enterprise on display at the USS Intrepid Museum New York has had a wooden walkway fitted to preserve as much of the original cargo bay as possible.

Sanding done.

Rear view of the fairing.
![Album image #31 Album image #31](/albums/img/2/7/5/1020275-18633-29-720.jpg)
Look at all that filler!
![Album image #32 Album image #32](/albums/img/2/7/6/1020276-18633-19-720.jpg)
No idea why but Scalemates likes to invert some of my photos,.
![Album image #33 Album image #33](/albums/img/0/9/9/1022099-18633-70-720.jpg)
And the painting process has begun!
I'm masking the nose first as I was most worried about masking that.

![Album image #37 Album image #37](/albums/img/7/1/2/1037712-18633-61-720.jpg)
All masked and paint started.
![Album image #38 Album image #38](/albums/img/7/1/4/1037714-18633-57-720.jpg)
Black airbrushed.
![Album image #39 Album image #39](/albums/img/7/1/3/1037713-18633-98-720.jpg)
The base looks shiny with wet paint.
![Album image #40 Album image #40](/albums/img/7/1/1/1037711-18633-50-720.jpg)
All sprayed and hung up to dry she looks like the real Enterprise did on her flight trials.
![Album image #41 Album image #41](/albums/img/7/1/7/1038717-18633-97-720.jpg)
Just the tail and cockpit to go.
![Album image #42 Album image #42](/albums/img/0/7/1/1039071-18633-84-720.jpg)
Now to figure out the cockpit......
![Album image #43 Album image #43](/albums/img/3/6/2/1096362-18633-89-720.jpg)
She's now on her own legs.
Also this photo was taken testing the new LED lighting system we've just had installed over the last week in our house.
I think it does the job very well!

![Album image #44 Album image #44](/albums/img/9/3/4/1247934-18633-92-720.jpg)
I've now put the wheels and doors on, painted the leading edge of the wings grey, painted the black square on the nose and put a nice layer of Klear on.
I also painted the 5 rectangular shapes on the left side of the fuselage and I used the Dragon Shuttle to create a paint mask for the cockpit windows.

![Album image #45 Album image #45](/albums/img/9/3/5/1247935-18633-46-720.jpg)
She's now ready for Decals!
![Album image #46 Album image #46](/albums/img/4/1/7/1248417-18633-39-720.jpg)
A nose shot!
![Album image #47 Album image #47](/albums/img/4/1/5/1248415-18633-58-720.jpg)
Decals on!
![Album image #48 Album image #48](/albums/img/4/1/6/1248416-18633-84-720.jpg)
I ended up using only the Minicraft decals as they appear to have 2 complete Shuttle's worth of decals if you use the Enterprise option.
![Album image #49 Album image #49](/albums/img/4/1/8/1248418-18633-84-720.jpg)
Oops!
I spotted that Minicraft's decal placement for "Enterprise" is about half inch wrong if your modelling herbas she's sat on the USS Intrepid Museum in New York.

All that's left now is the thruster dots and the grey nose.

Looks like the kit decals have yellowed quite a bit. Are you going to try using them or replace with newer decals?

You can tape the decals behind a window, with some strong sunlight (nowadays in europe not very present...) on it, the decals are getting more white, it really works, I've done it with some old Tamiya Honda RS1000 decals.

Thanks for the heads up folks.
I wont be using the Revell decals, I'll keep them in the spares box in case I need to bleach them in future.
What I will be using are the Enterprise decals from the Minicraft kit as they are the ones that represent how Enterprise looks now.

I'm looking forward for the process. I'm curious to see the added parts when it was on display.

A small (tiny) Tamiya pointed brush is nice to have for cleaning up paint that didn't end up as a straight line after using masking tape.

Treehugger what have I missed?
I have fine tip brushes and I've been going around tidying up so if there's anything I've missed tell me.

Roland:- you would be very very correct on that assumption!
It is the worse kit I have ever built!
Every time I tried to make progress I lost my mojo as it just doesn't build well, I even went as far as to honestly think this kit is cursed!
I'm now liking the result though and after decalling it will stay on a shelf and get swallowed up and sit at the back of the shelf once I build the Airfix, Minicraft and Dragon Shuttles!
