Btw, I see that you have an Ikea Detolf cabinet. 🙂 I just wanted to say that one can buy some self adhesive anti draft tape and tape it around the opening, and that way, one greatly reduce the dust that sneaks into the cabinet, and the tape itself with its small "brush", is hardly noticeable.

Nice. A tip: get yourself a regular 3B pencil. You can use that to add some shine to the anchor chain and other exposed metal parts.

Hi Martin, An awesome tip. I'm going to try that now. BTW on aircraft (my usual subject) most often we seal and finish with a clear coat. Do ships modelers do that too? And if so does it affect effects such as the pencil highlighting? Many thanks again. Cheers John

I didn't seal mine because of the scale. In 1/350 I would seal with a matt varnish, then you could simulate wet parts with gloss varnish.
For the pencil, if you want it too shine, apply after sealing. If you just want the metallic effect, apply before sealing.
