T-35
Construction started
A few of the towers are put together, trying how they fit
Too many wheels and suspensions. I tried to scratchbuild the springs, but it was too much work, given how many times they occur.
First time painting with AK real colors. The color is nice, the finish is very matte. It is possible to scratch it with cocktail sticks, after which it leaves a glossy surface. A layer of semi-gloss VMS varnish sealed it nicely (done much later in process).
As the paint goes nicely in multiple layers (using Mr Leveling Thinner 1:1 with paint), it's easy enough to create an uneven paint cover.
Trying some mud on the suspension
Going all-in with the mud. Also from AK.
A view from the bottom, noone ever wanted to see that.
Trying out to see how it all fits together. Seems things are going better than I expected. I'm not happy about the fit of tracks, but too late to do anything about that.
Side panels come last, again, trying to create an uneven paint, so it looks less boring.
Finding the right shade for scratches.
Part 2 of trying to find the right scratch shade. In the end went with Vallejo Light Zinc or some such.
Decals! Lots of silvering, hope varnish and weathering will hide it.
Completing weathering on the towers.
Again a look at the full tank, end is in sight! Overall weathering is done, some rust added on the panels. Still considering a pin wash, as there are a lot of rivets (already highlighted with the same green as scratches).
Unless I spot some mistake, I consider this tank done.
From the other side.

Whenever I was stuck or bored with the F-104J Eiko, this T-35 from Zvezda was a nice distraction. Over the past 4 months it nicely came together, with only a few more days of effort left. Love the size of this thing, probably the biggest tank in my collection. It's even larger than the KV-122 it will proudly park next to in the display case.

No new photos today, however oils and rust are done, towing cables and rings are attached. I should apply more mud now, but want to do it carefully.

Weathering complete. I would still like to add a few accessories, some bags and machine guns before taking photos with a proper camera.

Very cool, I like that. I've been considering building the Hobbyboss kit shortly 👍

Thanks James! Don't know how good the Hobby Boss version is, this one was good enough, solid fit all around and reasonably priced. I can only recommend it.

Looks great with all that dirt!
Nice idea to damage/remove some of the skirts so you can see the work you've done on the wheels. 👍

Thank you Guy and WhiteGlint! I think removal of the side skirts is not something seen in the field, except for the removal of rear skirts in later versions to avoid build-up of mud. However I agree, it's the only way to show some of the wheels, that would be invisible otherwise - and it does look more interesting, dare I say.
