Grumman X-29
This is very old kit so in the beginning the decal sheet was taped on a window so the sun light could remove yellowness.
Basic cockpit OOB.
Cockpit and lead weights added to the fuselage half. DON'T DO THIS! CA-GLUE AND LEAD ARE BAD COMBINATION!
Smoothing the center seam and very shallow panel lines needed to be scribed again.
Air intakes installed.
Wings added.
The engine nozzle needed to be added to help the wing alignment. The nozzle is not glued yet, because it would be easier to paint separately.
Adding putty to the intake seams.
Dryfitting the nose. It is offset and the tube needs to be straighten.
From the left: original kit seat, seat of early F-5 from Pavla models and Martin Baker Mk. GQ-7A from Aires. The kit seat has clearly taken inspiration from MB-seat.
Finally got back to this one. I tried to add pipes and stuff into landing gear bay.
Finally got ejection seat painted. Maybe this one was a bit pointless because I want to keep canopy closed.
More pitot tubes and canopy in place. My original goal was to get this ready before Midsummer, but I didn't had time from planning my vacation.
I finally decided to paint the white using white Tamiya fine surface primer spray. It spells awful and comes from a spray can, but it works like a miracle.
Front landing gear modified to resemble more the real one.
Painted antiglare area.
Jet nozzle painted with acrylics before adding it to the fuselage.
Time for the decals. I was afraid they would broke easily so I first tested the title decal on a sheet of styrene. It felt quite tough so I proceeded to apply the bottom stribes and canard stribes.
Finally all decals applied! I'm waiting overnight for Micro Sol to evaporate and then I could finish this.
It is finally ready!
Really shameful mistake that white area in front of the cockpit under the clear part...
Cockkpit front area fixed.

Welcome aboard, Oliver! Your X-29 looks very well done. Did you have any problems with the decals? Especially those long stripes?

Watching of course! I assembled one a long time ago...but purchased the next one 😄. I love this plane (and the kit too 😉 )

Yes, unfortunately the decals on the underside of the plane caused some problems with the bulges

Not much new here. I have just smoothed some seams, but painting white has been revealed to be more labored. I wanted to add a better ejection seat so I aqquired an F-5's ejection seat (F-5/T-38 (Pavla Models S72017, 1:72)), because this is a Frankenplane. But then I found out that X-29 actually uses a Martin Baker ejektion seat (M.B. GQ 7A Ejection Seat (Aires 7146, 1:72)), so I got more delays.

Following. attempted to complete it some time ago, but the decals turned out to be quite vulnerable to the decal softeners, namely Micro Sol. You have been warned and I still plan to build another one in the future.

Thanks, Woody! I just removed my decals from my window. Not much yellowness anymore. I will be careful with them.

This kit seems to be quite some work. 👍
Ah man, seeing your X-29 makes me want to retry my Su-47. 😄

Finally I'm again continuing this after Raccoon. My greatest obstacle was the white color, that I got solved with Tamiya fine surface primer spray. It smelled awful, but worked much better than my acrylics. One great invention was to spray the paint to a cup, pour the paint to my airbrush and so fix some tiny points on the model.

Lucky you mate! My decals dissolved when treated with MicroSol. I still promise myself to build it once again 🙂

Gentlemen, I declare the X-29 is ready! And it is not perfect... The decals were really tricky especially on the leading edge of the wings. My clear varnish had filled many of the panel lines. After removing the mask from the canopy I noticed that I didn't paint the front of the cockpit enough so there is a visible white area...
