J1N1-S 月光11型"後期型" (Gekko type11 late)

Ladies and gentlemen, it's been a long time!
I always make plastic models of jet aircraft, but suddenly I wanted to make a reciprocating engine warbird. 

This time, we will try to make modifications to various parts of the system.
Now, first of all... let's do something about this bad engine... 

In the corner of the room, a Zero fighter I had built a long time ago was gathering dust, so I decided to use the cylinder block from it.
The J1N and A6M used the same Sakae engine! 

Gekko has a window in the rear seat floor that allows a view of the underside.
The Fujimi kit reproduces the window, but the floor is just a board.
So I drilled a hole in the floor. 

I found myself with the latest eduald etch parts on hand. 

Production delays! 

High-quality pre-cut masking sheets are available in Japan for 200 yen + 84 yen (postage on envelopes). 

Hatch open!
It is essential to use a very thin saw, a design knife and enamel paint solvent. 

The parts are now available. 

Aotakeiro (blue bamboo colour) painted inside the fuselage. 

Cockpit and machine gun fitted!
The fuselage surfaces will now be riveted.

JN1N is painted dark green all over as night camouflage, so the work is easier said than done. However, because it is a monochrome colour, it tends to give a flimsy impression.
This is where the subsequent weathering process becomes important. 

Painted Japanese nationality mark, Hinomaru.
Decals are also available, but I was concerned that they would cover up the rivets that I had driven in, so I painted them. 

The painting of the orange colour of the ally identification belt and the completion of the project is gradually approaching.
