Atlas IIAS (NASA)
Photo of the subject rocket
I'm trying to resurrect this kit, something I started years ago and did poorly. I stripped and sanded paint that wrinkled from not being fully cured, then filled in pits in the resin parts with putty.
Recovery of this kit is going well. I remember the liquid fuel segment of the Atlas being quite shiny, so I opted for a bare metal foil finish.
Painted the thermal coating on the upper stage
Some progress on the assembly
Decals on, only some minor work left to finish!
Applied a final gloss overcoat. Once this dries, I'm calling it done!
Finished!

Atlas IIAS
Operator: NASA
Location: Cape Canaveral AS, Florida
Timeframe: 1995-1999
Personal Interest
There were 31 Atlas launches from CCAS SLC-36A/B during my tour of duty there: 2 Atlas I, 4 Atlas II, 12 Atlas IIA, and 13 Atlas IIAS. The Atlas had a 100% success rate during that timeframe. This model represents an Atlas IIAS rocket configured to carry a GOES weather satellite.
