N747PA was Boeing's 2nd 747 - the first built for a customer, Pan Am. The first 747 was kept by Boeing for use as a test vehicle and still exists at the Boeing museum. Pan Am used N747PA to film marketing materials (photos, commercials, press events) during 1969, because of this it was not the first 747 to carry paying passengers.
This is my attempt to model the plane as it might have appeared in July of 1969.
It's also my first try at modeling in decades, so I'm using it as a test bed to (re-)build skills.
An interesting note: the first 747 used in commercial service was N736PA it made the first commercial flight, was the first to be hijacked (to Cuba) and was destroyed in Tenerife when struck on the ground by a KLM 747 taking off.
N747PA had the distinction of being the first 747 involved in a crash, at take-off in San Francisco. The aircraft was repaired and returned to service.
