A cool model, it's very interesting to watch the build! I have an old Stirling from Airfix in my stash. Someday I will decide to build it 🙂

Apart from the scale and the plane, it is different. If I make one I'll need a hangar for him and me when we get evicted from home.

After several incidents, the doctors again wanted me to stay at home. Accordingly, in addition to my slot car work, I started working on some models. This Stirling is one of them. The progress is small, but it brings a lot of pleasure.

The fit of the parts is pretty good on this kit but the halves with the engines do need some work. Also, the parts with the exhausts are moulded in 2 halves but therefore shows a seam which needs to go. This is because of the moulding process I think to create the tiny exhausts.

I would like to ask for Your advice, mates. I have problem with two parts. First is the exhaust - this part was to big to fit in the fuselage. I left it for later hoping I will think a way to deal with it. Maybe I will manager to cut the ending (just the part with grooves) so it will fit the fuselage this way. Second is the clear part. It is absolutely smooth and as if the planes canopy was composed of one part. I am afraid my skills are not enough to draw the lines myself and I am thinking about leaving it as it is, not painted.

with a bit of making tape, you can have a couple of lines. in that scale, they do not need to be anything thicker 😉
you can do it before you glue the canopy

Hi Marcin 👋 yes the canopy is just one clear piece due to the scale, l didn't bother painting one on my model.
Yes your right about the exhaust..... My one didn't fit in the opening at the end.
I glued it just to the back and didn't push it inside fuselage.... I think that is how it should be.
I will take a photo of my one now and add it to my IAR-80 album for you to look at.
Good luck 👍👍

another solution is a decal of the right color cut on stripes and placed in the right place. if you do not have one of the right color, paint a spare one (very thin), cut it in stripes and then place it

The exhaust on the Starfighter is quite long out the back to get away from tail.
The glue will soften it into place a little and if you have any gaping you can fill it with filler, paint, or carefully with super glue.
Gently Gently with the fragile canopy.
Looking good you doing a nice job.

Good for you Marcin 👍 it looks good.
Remember that poli glue can fog up canopy glass, lf you fix with poli best hold your canopy with a bit of blue-tak and just add a few drops with a pin, alot of people use PVA as it's bit safer.

Should be a better job, l looked at some photos of Starfighter and the exhaust is shorter and inward like you cut it.
Are you going to paint a bit of black on the inlet cone's ??
For detail work l found that "Nail liner brushes" are the best, they are for beauty parlours to paint pictures on women's nails, but incredibly fine for detail model work.
I get the 6mm ones. AliExpress, eBay ect.
Enjoyed watching the build 👍👍

Welcome, Villiers de Vos, Michael, Nicolas, and Mr D! The part count is slightly over 80. Compared to the Memphis Belle, a level 5 model, this is a level 3. I plan to focus on technique with this one, which will be the real challenge after the B-17.

Not very difficulty, Freak. Just using small pewter plate strips. Not very cheap, but at least, 25 € Will last for the rest of the century. I use them also for any strap for hand weapons, back pack belts, prses, etc. You can find them in any shop specialized in game miniatures.(Warhammer and such).

Thank you. And yes, the decal quality is indeed very good. I used the 2 walkway decals on the wings because of the printed "walkway" letters. Will be fun to go on with all the other decals in the next step.

Thank you all. I'm happy that you like it. By the way, I noticed 2 mistakes, now that I have made all the final pictures:
1. I forgot to remove 2 small mask triangles at the canopy.
2. I forgot to make the tires a bit flat.
I have corrected that already but I don't feel like doing new photos.😉

Thanks for all your positiv words. So I made one new picture with both mistakes corrected. Must be enough. 😉
I tried the mirroring presentation for the first time and it is easy to do: just put the object on a simple glass screen from a picture frame and choose a flat angle when taking the photos.

Excellent paint work, the weathering and hydraulic fluid staining in particular (pic 18) is really great. What a gem!👍🏻

The next project will be this old tool Italeri Horsa glider. My first glider, so here's hoping it will be a good experience. 🙂

Made a start today. First thing to do was decide if a MK.1 or Mk.2 was to be built. I've decided on the Mk.1 so I had to cut out the parts as shown in the photo. 🙂
Welcome along Robert, Nicolas & J35J, nice to have you with me. 👍
Many thanks mates for your interest and likes Robert P, Neil, Chris & J35J. 👍

I built this about 20 years ago Guy as a gift for a WW2 Horsa pilot who was a friend of my wife's family. He'd flown Horsas into Normandy and Arnhem. He loved the model and it sat in his living room for the rest of his days. It's a nice kit as I recall.

Invasion stripes are now on the wings. Next is to start painting the invasion stripes on the fuselage. 🙂
@ Neil, it is quite a nice kit considering its age. The fact that you gifted a Horsa model to an actual Horsa pilot veteran is something that must have been hugely gratifying. 👍

Wow, this one brings back memories. As a teenager I loved looking through the Italeri catalogues and marvel at the paint jobs on the models. Most of them were painted by Francois Verlinden and I remember thinking I will never make models like that!

Yes, the Horsa was always a model I wanted to build and as a teenager never got one. As well as the newer tools, it's always nice to build older models that we wanted when we were young. 👍

Hey Treehugger... Yeah its pretty nifty... Dremel and a preloved scalpel blade is a cheap life hack in place of a lathe... Just keep it on the lowest speed tho and use the blade as a scraper to gently rempve the seam...Don't use sandpaper though... You'll melt the wheel to your fingers otherwise... lol... Oh and the larger the diameter the more likely you'll lose an eye...! Lol

I have some lesser electrical drills I can try use to lower the speed and use a metal file, should be safer I think than trying to mix that with some xacto blade.

A paper model sounds about right. It's a ridiculous release. It never saw action and is worse than a what if. Will you be doing a diorama with Wehrmacht soldiers holding up cardboard tank profiles? I think it will be much to your liking

It is however a machine what has been used, and in some numbers too, and I think some of us are happy to see one done in styrene.

My friend, where do you get these assumptions from? Just because I don't like a kit doesn't mean that I beleive I am being coerced into buying it.
Are you going to do that diorama then? With the soldiers holding up cardboard tanks? You could do one of the guys running to represent really fast panzers! lol
