Capt: for this one I went looking for something Norwegian, because that was the subject of the GB for Jens. It had to be something I'd be able to scratch build (as I was too tight to open my wallet to buy something. 😄 ). Normally it's because I just stumble on an interesting picture. 🙂

gorbyTeabag-proof is a bit of a stretch. I suspect the insurance would have been void if they drove past Tetley's.

gorbyI'm not one of those people who claim to have a remarkable super-power...the ability to know what colour something is in a black and white photo. I haven't found anywhere which mentions what colour it was, so I'm going grey. Actually most of my hair fell out before I went grey but that's probably down to living with a daughter all those years ago. 😄
Oh yes, grey. I used Tamiya XF-87 as I thought that would be the most actuate shade of grey for something I know nothing about. Or it could equally be that I've got a lot of XF-87. Seems like a good enough reason to me.
I hope to get the completed pics posted at the weekend.

This was a very quick scratch-build for me, I think it was a bout three weeks. My Steaplechaser traction engine took about four months to build. Now that was a long wait. 😄

Rolf Rolfi do not build a lot of 1 144 scale kits, but as far as the ageof it gos it seems pretty good, it is lacking some details,but theyy are ones you can live without, for example their is no backwall for the inside of the engine intakes

TreehuggerIt is reboxing of Revell's kit, apparently.
I put some black cardboard inside the engine to make it look better, for both the big air intake and the small air intake at the front.
I added a custom clearpart to each side of the wing, a fun and simple fix. 🙂 I had a lot of fun building this (other Revell boxing) kit, nothing too complicated.
I thought the tailhook parts on the Revell kit were weird, iirc.
I wonder if there is any wiring for the Hawkeye plane, it might look even nicer if adding that detail, I don't remember it if has any.
Btw, I think I am reading now that the prototype first flew on 21. October 1960.

Watching with great interest. I have the Rothmans and Canadian Reds kits in my stash, too. I built the kit many years ago, and remember that the decals aren't opaque enough.
I remember as a kid, seeing the Canadians Reds (and later known as the Rayban Reds)at a couple Airshows in my home province of Alberta.

Desert MarlinWell, the polycap that is supposed to link/sync the left and right elevators fell out during the process of joining the fuselage halves. So I had to saw out the little housing that was supposed to hold the polycap in place and set it manually. Looks like I have one "unforced error" so far...

Desert MarlinIt's close to time to add the canopy and mask for paint. Lots of weathering yet to go. And the gun bays are looking a bit bland. Needs some additional paint and wiring.

Desert MarlinStill working on them. The fit has had only one issue that was even close to being worth mentioning. The right wing gun port on the leading edge did not fit perfectly. So I have had to do a little filling on the undersurface. The underwing scoop was almost an issue but seems to have settled into place. WARNING: one must fit the AILERONS BEFORE THE FLAPS. Otherwise the photo etched hinge does not get locked into place by the steel shaft from the outboard end of the flap. Missed this so it was unforced error #2...

Desert MarlinOkay, after looking at some of the real aircraft, I am not sure there is any detail needed except to weather the bay and guns. I was expecting some electrical or other pipes/wiring, but alas, there does not appear to be any...

Desert MarlinI'm back! So the masks provided are intended to be applied to the outside surface. However, it's really hard to mask the interior surface, so I cut the masks and applied them to the inside of the glass and then used Scotch tape for the outside. Leaving the interior a little "over masked, the black primer added to the outside with the flat black interior will create a nice effect overall.

Desert MarlinI'm using Alclad and Metalizer. Sadly, my collection of Metalizer is shrinking. My choice for masking tape is 3M PostIt Notes. They work really well on the soft surface of Alclad Primers and Paints. Looking to seal it up next and start the process of marking/weathering.

JohnI love the finish of Metalizer but hoo boy is it fragile. I hear you on supply. I'm all out of aluminum; stainless steel and jet exhaust are all that's left. 🙁
