Marcin DudekI would like to ask for Your advice, mates. I have problem with two parts. First is the exhaust - this part was to big to fit in the fuselage. I left it for later hoping I will think a way to deal with it. Maybe I will manager to cut the ending (just the part with grooves) so it will fit the fuselage this way. Second is the clear part. It is absolutely smooth and as if the planes canopy was composed of one part. I am afraid my skills are not enough to draw the lines myself and I am thinking about leaving it as it is, not painted.

Spanjaardwith a bit of making tape, you can have a couple of lines. in that scale, they do not need to be anything thicker 😉

Mr DHi Marcin 👋 yes the canopy is just one clear piece due to the scale, l didn't bother painting one on my model.
Yes your right about the exhaust..... My one didn't fit in the opening at the end.
I glued it just to the back and didn't push it inside fuselage.... I think that is how it should be.
I will take a photo of my one now and add it to my IAR-80 album for you to look at.

Spanjaardanother solution is a decal of the right color cut on stripes and placed in the right place. if you do not have one of the right color, paint a spare one (very thin), cut it in stripes and then place it

Mr DThe exhaust on the Starfighter is quite long out the back to get away from tail.
The glue will soften it into place a little and if you have any gaping you can fill it with filler, paint, or carefully with super glue.
Gently Gently with the fragile canopy.

Remember that poli glue can fog up canopy glass, lf you fix with poli best hold your canopy with a bit of blue-tak and just add a few drops with a pin, alot of people use PVA as it's bit safer.

Mr DShould be a better job, l looked at some photos of Starfighter and the exhaust is shorter and inward like you cut it.
Are you going to paint a bit of black on the inlet cone's ??
For detail work l found that "Nail liner brushes" are the best, they are for beauty parlours to paint pictures on women's nails, but incredibly fine for detail model work.
I get the 6mm ones. AliExpress, eBay ect.

I use them also for any strap for hand weapons, back pack belts, prses, etc. You can find them in any shop specialized in game miniatures.(Warhammer and such).

Max OttenHow is the fit of the wing fold? I tried it on an Academy Bearcat (because I already had that built and didn't want another build) but the Academy wing is too thin and now the top surface of the port wing has split and I'm stuck.

2. I forgot to make the tires a bit flat.

I tried the mirroring presentation for the first time and it is easy to do: just put the object on a simple glass screen from a picture frame and choose a flat angle when taking the photos.

Neil PatrickI built this about 20 years ago Guy as a gift for a WW2 Horsa pilot who was a friend of my wife's family. He'd flown Horsas into Normandy and Arnhem. He loved the model and it sat in his living room for the rest of his days. It's a nice kit as I recall.

Eddy MarshallHey Treehugger... Yeah its pretty nifty... Dremel and a preloved scalpel blade is a cheap life hack in place of a lathe... Just keep it on the lowest speed tho and use the blade as a scraper to gently rempve the seam...Don't use sandpaper though... You'll melt the wheel to your fingers otherwise... lol... Oh and the larger the diameter the more likely you'll lose an eye...! Lol

BozzerThat's a tough call mate.
Personally, I'd go for it and build my own. However, I'd check the time, by building one, and see how long it takes me? Then I'd multiply that, by the amount of cross members, plus the rails and end pieces.
I'd do this because, my time is limited and nobody really looks at the bottom of a trailer?
That being said, I have plans to build some very interesting trailers, in the future, all from scratch!
If time is on your side, go for it. If not, straight on top of the old, works too.

BozzerOn the Idea picture, your image shows smaller wheels on the trailer, than the truck. Obviously those are offset by the gooseneck. Options for wheels should be available by 3D printing? They'd definitely be steel wheels. Revell have a Heavy Duty Trailer with a beavertail. I can measure those wheels and tyres, if you want that information? That's definitely the way I'd go, for a heavy trailer like that 👍

Martin OostromAnother hour, another question. I removed some wiring/piping. First I intended to replace it with 0.5mm brass rod. But it looks a bit thin. I also have 0.8mm lead wire. More to size, but a bit bendy.
What to use? And what to simulate the clasps with?

bughunterCopper! It is harder then lead. You can glow it to get it more soft.
Foil from a whine bottle, not all are usable. Often the have two alu with clear plastic in between. I often use the removed outer blacked alu.

Martin OostromThis kit needs a lot of work. The fit is decent to good. But there are so many mold lines. Each part needs cutting, filing, scraping and sanding. Slow and tedious.

GoldmanImpressive work Martin.
I have found that the best solution to the ejector pin marks Italeri and Revell like so much is CA glue (superglue) mixed with Talcum Powder. Make sure you have "real" talcum powder that contains Talc and not corn starch (apparently, recently Jonshon replaced the Talc in its products with corn starch so check the ingredients on the package). For CA I use the cheap Loctite from the supermarket. The Talc make the CA easier to sand.
I also use Dspiae self adhesive sanding strips (280 and 800 grits) with their aluminum boards to get a flat area:
Alumimium Alloy Sanding Boar..2+2pcs) (DSPIAE AS-RD15, No)
Pre-cut self adhesive Sandpa..00grain (DSPIAE MSP-400, No)

Spanjaard@Bozzer, you may mean MF 70 (Proxxon 27110, No) . there is even the CNC version, but it is more for metal than plastic, in my opinion

Spanjaard is right about the mill. The rotation speed can be set between 5000 and 20000, which is too high for plastic.

GoldmanIf you already have a Proxxon or similar grinder you can just get a drill stand (MB200) and the sliding table (KT70) and save some money. Will probably not be as accurate as the MF70 but I think it will be good enough for plastic. I actually considered buying this combination (I already have Proxxon FBS240 grinder) but after considering the cost and, more importantly, how often I will use this setup I decided not to.

Ben MIf you do as Goldman suggests, you can use one of those analog speed controls. I have one for my dremel that goes all the way down to zero rpm.

Jennifer FranklinThis is ambitious! At least your son has a 3D printer. Are you seriously thinking of getting one yourself? They have come down in price a great deal. The Bambu Lab A1 is an excellent printer and is much more reasonably priced than they used to be.

These tracks show the standard of modern kits, they worked a dream and the 1:1 plans are a great idea. I know some will say you should have working tracks always but if you don't have working suspension then they are a fiddly time consuming waste of effort. That's not to say correct droop is not the goal and Tamiya here show that can be done in a much easier way - top marks!

DerMattesDecals for the canopy are simply the worst. I hoped to avoid masking the canopy, but after having most of the decals down with horrible fit, I think about how to get them clear coated without dulling down the canopy? Masking maybe... so I am seriously considering removing the canopy decals and going the normal way.
What are your experiences with these canopy decals? Did anybody use them?

DanielThink you mean the "skunk stripe"?
I would always advise to mask those - looking at the last pic I would try to remove and mask, those look really uncooperative...and if you apply tape over these decals for protecting the canopy eg I think it would create a real mess when removed🤔

DerMattes@Skyhiker The kit has decals for the canopy itself. There is a black decal that is intended to go over the front and the windshield, then there are two stripes that go alongside the clear canopy and three across. And then there are two (or three, the manual is not very clear about that) decals for the black area behind the canopy. All these are intended to go over surfaces that are curved in multiple angles.
@Daniel My thoughts exactly, the tape would make a mess out of these decals.
So... I removed the canopy decals (worked pretty well) and will mask the canopy and the "skunk stripe" for airbrushing. Let's see how that goes 😉

SkyhikerAhh, now I understand what you mean. Yes, that's a simple paint job. You could use decal softener but it's probably not worth the time or effort, because the painting is faster and will give you better results.

One thing I learned from this kit is, that the panel lines in the manual and on the model itself have nothing to do with each other. Makes placing some stencils kind of guesswork.

DerMattesAt least I managed to take some time and add all the missing small antennas and the centerline tank. As the AIM-9X Sidewinders came damaged with this ebay-find, I think I just leave this one without missiles or pods, just with the three tanks.
I also did some tests to maybe shoot some better pictures someday 😉
