Album info

Having had a bad crop of crumbling decals with this Airfix Curtis Tomahawk IIB Starter Kit I thought I would have a try at some serious weathering based on a historical picture of the actual aircraft!

This is finished in the colours of AK402 GA-F Tomahawk IIB (P-40C) as flown by Flying Officer Neville Duke of 112 Sqn RAF in November 1941.

I’ve placed this build at the point on the 30 November, when Duke was shot down by Luftwaffe ace, Otto Schultz of JG27 flying a Messerschmitt Bf 109. Duke belly landed and survived the crash, it was however, to be the last flight of aircraft AK402.

This is, in the main, a very nice kit to build although one must be careful not to break off the aerial and guns which, I guess being a Starter Kit, are moulded as part of the fuselage and wings.
