Forgot to start a build log on this one. It is a really excellent kit. My chassis pan was warped a little bit but I think I got it rolled back straight enough it'll be fine. Other than that the details are really nice and the engineering is excellent.

Building the gold 3rd place car prepped by Holman and Moody for Dick Hutcherson and Ronnie Bucknum. They were several laps down at the end but lined up with the cars of Miles and McLaren for the iconic 1-2-3 photo. I've always loved how the gold car looks.

What a coincidence! Last night I watched the movie (I don't know much about the history of sports cars) and today I find your model here. Very nicely done!

Great work as usual. This kit is a bit expensive, the Fujimi version for example is cheaper. But do you think it's worth it based on your experience?

Thank you Guy and Neuling. Much appreciated.

Frank, thank you!! I don't know a ton about the history of sports car racing but the 1,2,3 finish at Le Mans in 1966 is definitely an iconic moment!! I really have always loved GT40s too. Such cool machines, especially for the time. Most impressive.

Marcel, I haven't built the Fujimi kit so I don't have a direct comparison. I will tell you that this is top notch modern tooling and engineering. And one other positive this kit definitely has over the Fujimi is the full engine detail. The Fujimi lacks that. This one also comes with a nice photoetch rear grill, seat belt hardware and seat belt material. To me it was worth the money but I can't speak for everyone. And I've seen some really beautiful builds of the Fujimi.

Thanks for the info, Kyle! A complete engine is definitely a big plus. After I've reduced my stash a bit, I will certainly consider picking up one of these. 🙂

Nice job, brother!
I took have a GT40. Unbeknown to me, it was a rare kit? It's the Revell version (in my stash) but it's actually a Fujimi rebox. Again, it's got the PE and I made seatbelts for it. I painted it in the only blue that I had, at the time, then discovered the history of the original car. That in itself, was worth trying to get the colour right! If you boys check out the history, the story is unbelievable! I'll get around to finishing the shell, at some point, and share it with you guys.

In my stash too. Will go for the blue one. Still pondering how best to paint all the metal knobs at the seat. Any suggestion?
Very nice build of your. Makes me wanna start mine right away.

No problem at all Marcel!

Bozzer thank you!! Any GT40 is cool and several have awesome stories behind them too. Did you do the '66 "winner"? That took second place that year?

Thanks MIchael. The blue car is the most iconic and it is a great looking car. For my buttons I used a metallic gel pen. Then I went back and touched up as necessary. By the time I got to the second seat I pretty much had it down where I could just touch the button and get a dot in the right spot. First seat was a beat messier but not awful. I should've taken a better picture of the interior once I had the seats looking better.

Thanks Kyle. That sounds like a feasible idea. I was considering using a piece of metal or a toothpick of the right diameter as a kind of a stamp. Will try both. Probably it will come down to practice with any technique.

@Kyle.
That one mate. I read an eyewitness account of the race. I'll try and find it again, for you boys.

No problem Michael!! A little practice for sure. Like I said, the second seat went way better than the first. But I was happy with both at the end.

Bozzer, I really like that box art. Very cool. That would be the car that officially won but really shouldn't have. Driven by none other than Bruce McLaren

Congratulations on another butiful bild kyle
I have the fujimi kit
And the revell kit
Missed out on the meng kit
Sold out everywhere now
I hear the 1/24 kit is better then it's bigger brother
I did manage to get 2 1/12 meng kits
And also 2 of the 1/12 magnifier kits
The history behind the gt 40 is so cool
First win by Ford over farrari
It was called 40 because it it 40 inches to the top of the ruff
The bobble in the ruff was necessary to fit the driver in the car

Thank you Jv!! I don't know anything about the 1/12 scale Meng, but this 1/24 scale kit is really great!! I enjoyed building it greatly.
