Some progress with the F-16. Gave the cockpit some colours, the kit pit is reasonably nice i think although i will replace the ejection seat for a resin example since the ejection seat is easy to be seen. Note the colour of the plastic 😄

Finally some progress mates! Making the big mouth sucker seamless was quite a work but i'm happy with the result! Also acquired me a resin bang seat, looks a lot nicer then the kit seat. Too bad i'ts missing one of the triangle thingies on the left side, but nothing much will be seen from it when in place.

Nothing really fancy Guido, just some fine filler from Perfect Plastic Putty and a scraper with a round tip to remove excessive filler from the round "corners". And also some "long and precious sanding" off course 🙂

Seat is indeed MUCH better. Have found the broken piece also, it was almost eaten by the "laminate monster"...

Did you paint the inlet by pouring the paint into it or by brush?
2 November 2015, 06:54
Erik Leijdens
Hi Gunter, before assembly i painted the inner parts with a brush so that there is a white base coat in the inside. Then assembled the whole inlet together, then some putty on the places were needed, removed excessive putty, some sanding with various sanding sticks/paper etc. After that again with a brush with some white on hard to reach places and were the paint was gone because of the sanding. And finally with my airbrush with the small tip(so you have a narrow beam of paint) a final coat of white to make it solid white.
Looks like a lot of work but is quite easy to realize I think. I know that there are various ways to make a inlet seamless but I just wanted to try this one🙂

Outstanding work on the intake m8 .

Added the first coat of primer and this reveals that there is some work to do' especially around the gun port. Poor fit is very hard to see with this yellow.plastic 😠

And it reminds me not to buy a kit with a funky color anymore 😉

Still it is starting to look.like a real F 16.

Painted the exhaust yesterday and added some weathering on the undercarriage, maybe a bit to much for a quite new(in '91) F-16 but I think it looks good. Exhaust was sprayed with Mr.Metal colors, also maybe not like the real thing but as ww2 plane builder this is quite new to me.. 😉

Ziet er toch heel goed uit Erik. lekker he die gele ondergrond

They look like exhaust cans to my eyes....but what do I know...I'm more of a propellerhead too 😄
3 December 2015, 12:58
Rob van Dodewaard
Well Wim and Erik there is nothing wrong being a propellerhead i am one of them myself and I am mighly glad of it.

Erik Leijdens
You are absolutely right Guido, although it's not completely out of my comfort zone. Made a lot of jets in my youth🙂

The exhaust is indeed looking very clean on the inside, but i did "blackend" it a bit after this picture was taken..😄 Exhaust is already masked and glued to the fuselage so that can be seen after the paintjob. Thanks for the heads up about the burnt iron, i can add that later 👍

The undercarriage also needs some brake lines so that will be added also.

Thanks for the comments mates!

Thanks Arne, it's 50/50 mix of FS35237 and FS36622 as per instructions on Mike Grant's decalsheet. Used Gunze H311 and H337.

Looking suspiciously like a F-16

The F-16 is one of those shapes that looks so cute in primer! You could stop right there. 🙂
12 December 2015, 08:59
Erik Leijdens
Well Burkhard, I will because it is the all grey livery of Bhairaini Airforce. Applied after the grey primer. When you look closely you will see some diffrence in a few pics back 😉

Started with the decals! Decals are very nicely printed, only they do not react very much on Sol as i hoped for 🙁. But the Viper is coming alive now👍

Bart Goesaert
looks nice, not the most colorfull bird, but you don't see these often
15 December 2015, 10:04
Erik Leijdens
I only have Daco strong and even that did not work. The decals cripple a bit but they just do not want to go in the panellines.
15 December 2015, 15:27
Bart Goesaert
I tend to do several coats sometimes, and aid the process by applying the decalsoftener over the complete decal, and then gently push (vertically) the decal into place/the recesses with the aid of a rather stiff flat brush, moistured with a bit of softener, always from the middle of the decal to the sides to avoid airbubbles. I repeat that proces as long as necessary, but it can take up to 5 times till you get the desired result
15 December 2015, 15:44
Bart Goesaert
or maybe you can cut the decal with a sharp knife over the panellines, in between the letters (so that the air can escape), and and then push the decals with softener into these panellines...
15 December 2015, 16:23
Erik Leijdens
Thanks Bart will try your last option since the steps you describe in your earlier post is more ore less the same steps i took. But cutting the decals in the panellines is a very good idea that might work👍.

And if not, no man overboard! The fun of building is still there 🙂
15 December 2015, 20:01
Erik Leijdens
Gave the viper a wash today to bring things alive. Have cut the the panel lines were the decals did not "sink" in and a added some more Sol, that worked well enough for me. Thanks Bart 👍

Mike Grant offered me a new decalsheet but since all the decals were already applied i declined his offer, off course thanked him for this most generous offer👍👍.
27 December 2015, 15:34
Erik Leijdens
Thanks Guido! You're right about cutting the panellines, better safe than sorry 👍 Lesson learned!
28 December 2015, 19:49

Never tried cutting the decals myself ,next time they wont sink i will give it a try👍.
Good progress Erik.

Small update, matt finish added. i was in doubt whether it was the right choice but i think it will look nicer than a satin finish.

Finished my first modern fighter 🙂 Hope you like it mates! It's not perfect but I like the outcome of this, sometimes tricky, Hasegawa F-16 kit.
